Carlton Walker and Tony McNeal, co-owners of McNeal Walker Interiors, have been loyal shoppers at the Atlanta Habitat ReStore for years. Using items found at our ReStore, they renovated an early 1900s Craftsman bungalow in Atlanta s West End neighborhood. After knocking down walls, relocating a kitchen, and redoing the backyard and front porch, the renovated home was ready for guests. We learned you just kind of have to be creative, said McNeal. You might have a vision for something, and you go with it. The renovated bungalow was featured in the 2016 Historic West End Tour of Homes, the AJC s Private Quarters magazine, and HGTV.

3 After retirement from a career in pharmaceuticals, Scott Miller began to look at volunteer opportunities. Scott likes to help people, and he likes to stay fit, so volunteering at the Atlanta Habitat ReStore was a good match. Because he is handy with household fixtures, Scott was asked to repair some furniture and cabinetry. He also got his exercise: his activity tracker reports that he walks 10 miles and burns almost 3,000 calories when he s at the ReStore! Special Feature Committed to the Cause After two years of volunteering, Scott joined our staff in 2016, transferring those skills he had as a volunteer into an employee position. I really like being part of the full organization, said Scott. I understand more about the goals of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore, and I like being part of the group. It s an empowering organization. New ideas are considered and implemented when possible. 4 Donation Spotlight Aisles of Tile Customers hurried into the Atlanta Habitat ReStore when they heard that Speartek Tile and Stone had donated large quantities of marble tile again. Speartek, headquartered in Atlanta, offers a unique collection of high-end products spanning from marble, travertine and limestone from around the world. We were honored and thankful when they chose to donate their year-end stock to our ReStore. The owners of SpearTek Tile and Stone, Edward Spearman and Kam Tekin, as well as many of our employees are native to the area, says Tammy Aylsworth with SpearTek, we realize the importance of giving back to the community. I added legs, painted the entire table blue, painted the hardware gold, and voila! We use it as a buffet in our dining room, and we get tons of compliments on it. 2 nd Place Congratulations 2 nd Place Winner Karim from Historic West End! While searching through the ReStore at the old location, I came across pallets of Norstone sculpted quartz tile. At the time I purchased the pallet, I had no idea what I was going to do with it, and then I decided to build a shower. I installed the tile in a herringbone pattern. Jennifer has volunteered at the ReStore since And, she gives her time each week because everyone deserves a safe and warm place to lay their head at the end of the day. She loves seeing the customers smiles when they leave the store, and her favorite part of volunteering is changing lives and making a difference.
