2 PROFILE DEAN MOLYNEUX Every project I work on is different and no two days are ever the same. TRENDS CHANGE SO QUICKLY, IT IS VITAL THAT WE ALWAYS STAY ONE STEP AHEAD. AS SUCH, WE ARE CONSTANTLY ON THE LOOK OUT FOR NEW THEMES READY TO LAUNCH TO OUR AUDIENCES. Our research and design team has been busy analysing upcoming trends and the result is three very different, yet inspiring ranges; Elemental, Ombré and Lumière. With a long history working with designers and with bars, hotels, clubs and other hospitality sites direct, we are confident about the popularity of our new brands, and we hope you will be too. You may have seen a selection of lighting from the new ranges through our social media channels, but now here they are in all their glory! Our design team has also been kept busy with a number of bespoke lighting projects and we are really pleased to showcase the fantastic results of two of these in this issue; a chandelier for the home of Doctor Nyla from Channel 4 s Embarrassing Bodies and a nine tier chandelier for Southend Civic Centre. Our exclusive range of warm. White. Dimmable LED bulbs continue to be specified into a wide range of design projects and you can see the effect of this breakthrough in LED technology in our Café Rouge case study on page 11. If you would like any more information on our new ranges, or bespoke projects, please get in touch with our project co-ordinators on DR NYLA BESPOKE CASE STUDY PAGE 10 DEAN MOLYNEUX, PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR AT CHANTELLE LIGHTING EXCEEDING OUR CUSTOMERS EXPECTATIONS We re always under pressure to get fittings manufactured and delivered to tight timescales but we thrive under pressure and seeing the end result is a great reward. An ability to balance and understand the requirements of designers and customers is a key part of Project Coordinator Dean Molyneux s role at Chantelle Lighting. At any one time I can be responsible for numerous projects, said Dean. It is my job to ensure that all of the designers, architects and contractors I am working with are happy with everything we do. This involves liaising with our in-house specialist teams about the design of the products, the manufacture of them and our ability to fulfil their project briefs and deadlines. Every project I work on is different and no two days are ever the same. I might be working on a hotel project, under the instruction of a designer, and at the same time working directly with a client on a bespoke project. I love working with different designers and discovering the styles and themes they are predicting will be the next trend. The best part of my job is seeing the finished project being installed and creating the atmosphere and visual impact that the designer was hoping for. CASE STUDY CASE STUDY: SOUTHEND BOROUGH COUNCIL SAY HELLO... TO OUR NEW ELEMENTAL RANGE ELEMENTAL Southend-on-Sea s Civic Centre has been a focal point in the seaside town since 1967.

TO OUR NEW ELEMENTAL RANGE ELEMENTAL Southend-on-Sea s Civic Centre has been a focal point in the seaside town since It is a 13 storey building on Victoria Avenue, the main thoroughfare used by the majority of visitors to the town. Today it is a focal point for all of the Council s main services. The Challenge Since opening in the 1960s, the Civic Centre had become increasingly expensive to operate and maintain and it was in urgent need of modernisation. meeting the cost efficiency brief. The individual rings in the chandelier are seamlessly connected and at the touch of a button the separate rings can be accessed for maintenance. The Result When Southend Council leaders decided that it was no longer fit for purpose, they were faced with deciding whether to refurbish the iconic building or relocate to new purpose-built facilities. The project was complex because of the scale of the bespoke fitting and the welding required to form the aluminium hoops. The hard work and passion of the team at Chantelle Lighting has been rewarded with a truly impressive end result. They found that the most cost effective solution was to undertake a total refurbishment of the Civic Centre, whilst staff continued to work in the building. Another key consideration in the refurbishment was improving the energy efficiency of the building. There were a number of elements to the brief from the designers and architects, including producing a bespoke focal point which would be energy efficient and easy to maintain, said Anthony. Using our design expertise as well as our understanding of the latest LED technologies, we were able to surpass the expectations of the team. It was important to Council leaders that some of the building s original features were maintained during the refurbishment. The Solution Chantelle Lighting s designers were tasked with creating a feature chandelier which would create a focal point for everyone coming into, and working in the building, but would also be energy efficient and have low maintenance costs. The fitting is simple in nature but has totally transformed the building, making it come alive to staff who work there every day and one-off visitors. It was a pleasure working with a team of designers and architects who had a genuine interest in maintaining many of the original features of the building whilst bringing it into the 21st Century. ELEMENTAL ELEMENTAL ELEMENTAL Strong, geometric lines feature heavily in the design of the fittings for our new Elemental range. Each with a look as strong as their name, the three pendants that make up our new range are Fire, Aether and Air. Air and Fire feature laser cut geometric shades with an antique copper finish, which would look just at home in an art deco restaurant as they would in an industrial bar. Aether, which is available in three different sizes, lends itself to cool inner city bars or upmarket brasseries. All of the fittings come with a filament bulb. Anthony Holly, Chantelle Lighting managing director, said: It needed to be a timeless light fitting which would be in keeping with the original features, such as the balustrades from the 1960s, but also needed to work well with the modern elements of the refurbishment. Chantelle s designers proposed a nine ring aluminium chandelier; a circular shaped fitting which would complement the oval descent of the stairs. Anthony added, Aluminium was the perfect material for such a large fitting and the interconnecting rings allowed weight to be distributed evenly, meaning it was not too heavy at the top or bottom. We used an innovative range of LED tape on this fitting to make it really simple for the chandelier to be maintained once it was in position. LED tape is very flexible, has low running costs and a very long life span, so it was ideal for We are really pleased with the timeless look of this bespoke piece and are looking forward to transferring some of our ideas from this project to reproduce different versions of this fitting for other types of buildings. -Anthony Holly, Director of Chantelle Lighting 5

4 RECENT PROJECTS PROJECT : BEEF & PUDDING A stylish and chic interior combined with some rustic elements greets customers at Beef & Pudding, New Moon Co s first urban site in Manchester city centre. PROJECT : MANAHATTA Bringing a taste of New York to downtown Leeds, Manahatta has a stylish laid back atmosphere which incorporates urban and industrial New York vibes. PROJECT : ALLHALLOWS Industrial themed lighting, featuring reclaimed metal items, was key to a refurbishment at Allhallows holiday park in Kent. 5 INTRODUCING OUR NEW LUMIERE RANGE Inspired by the elegance and luxury of gentlemen s clubs and smoking rooms, the five fittings in our Lumiére Range exude contemporary class. A combination of pendants and wall lights, these products all come in our exclusive French Gold finish. INTRODUCING OUR NEW COPPER OMBRE RANGE Straight lines and sharp angles are a key feature in this collection, with a filament bulb visible through each glass window. The two pendants, Grandé and Petite, are a multi pendant and a single pendant respectively with a charming ambience. The three wall lights, Angle, Tilt and Tall all go hand-in-hand yet stand strong alone. The seven fittings in our Ombré range are visibly divided into two styles, yet the shiny copper and champagne glass provide a common ground. Slim, Curve and Sleek are the three caged pendants in the collection, offering an industrial spin on the elegance that the finish gives. Fuse, Flow, Link and Fade are the four half-copper half-glass pendants. Each with a filament bulb that gives a nostalgic ambience, these fittings are similar enough to blend together, yet different enough to stand out as a feature. 9

LED BULBS EXCLUSIVE TO CHANTELLE CASE STUDY CAFE ROUGE The Challenge Keane, an award-winning brand agency, was working with Café Rouge to both re-design existing cafes and carry out the interior design on new venues. They wanted to use mood lighting to create an authentic French bistro environment. As part of our project with Café Rouge, we wanted to use lighting to create a warm, glowing atmosphere, explained Brook Millard, interior designer at Keane Brands. We wanted to ensure that we created a comfortable atmosphere for customers to sit, eat and drink. Café Rouge is the UK s premier French café brand with a broad all-day offering of classic French dishes and wines. The first Café Rouge opened in South-West London in 1989 and now, with over 125 restaurants throughout the UK, it is one of the country s most recognisable brands. The Solution Starting with the refurbishments of the Leamington and Henley branches of Café Rouge, the interior design team were keen to use Chantelle Lighting s exclusive warm LED bulbs. Brook said: Our design plans for the venues included a wide range of pendants, wall lights and lamps, but for us the bulbs used in these light fittings was just as important as the design of the fittings themselves. The Challenge An expert at performing makeovers on her clients, Dr Nyla felt a chandelier at her Cheshire home was in need of its own makeover. The large donut shaped fitting, which was designed to create an impressive welcome to guests entering her home, was not as striking as she hoped, with crystals sparsely hung, making it look bare. Dr Nyla had researched alternative fittings online and after finding some ideas she liked, got in touch with the design team at Chantelle Lighting to see if they could help her to create her dream fitting. The Solution Dr Nyla s existing light fitting was not doing justice to the stunning reception area of her home, said Chantelle Lighting managing director Anthony Holly. After visiting her home to see where the light would be situated, we decided to start from scratch and create a brand new, bigger fitting. We designed a brand new donut shaped chandelier which has a large diameter of 1,800mm and by closely fitting crystals over the entire frame, we created the big impact that Dr Nyla was looking for. Dr Nyla visited Chantelle s manufacturing site in Lancashire to check on progress of her chandelier before it was transferred to her home and she was delighted with the scale and look of the fitting. Anthony added: The design and manufacture of this bespoke piece was a big job for our team because of the sheer scale of the fitting and number of crystals that needed to be included, yet to see the finished piece makes it all worth it. We are delighted with the finished piece, as is Dr Nyla. The Result Visitors to Dr Nyla s home are now greeted by the bespoke light fitting which has created a true focal point of her reception area. Dr Nyla was so pleased with the understanding and skill of the team at Chantelle Lighting that she commissioned more light fittings for her kitchen, bedroom and prestigious clinic in Wilmslow. We didn t want harsh white lighting to be used in the venues because this wouldn t create the ambience we were looking for. We were really impressed with the warmth of the LED bulbs which Chantelle Lighting developed with the manufacturer and the fact that they could be fully dimmed if needed. For us and our client, Café Rouge, energy efficiency was also a very important consideration. The bulbs supplied by Chantelle Lighting only use around 2% of the energy of traditional bulbs and last up to 25 times longer, which will save Café Rouge money on long term replacements, as well as reducing their energy bills. I love all of the work that Chantelle Lighting Keane Design have done for my home and clinic, said Dr Nyla. When I met them, they immediately understood my vision and interpreted this into something real. I have had lots of positive comments about my new light fittings, especially the chandelier in my reception area, and I now know exactly who to turn to when I am looking for lighting inspiration in the future. 11 The Result Following the installation of Chantelle Lighting s exclusive LED bulbs in the Leamington and Henley cafes, they have now been used in refurbishments in Wellington Street, Bromley, Hampstead, Milton Keynes, Bristol Cribbs Causeway, Reading, Pinner, Blackheath and Southgate, Hitchin and Haywards Heath with plans to continue using them in future projects for Café Rouge. The LED bulbs work fantastically in all of the cafés we have worked on and have really helped to create the mood we were looking for. We have been so impressed with the bulbs that we definitely have plans to use them in projects for other clients in the near future. - Brook Millard
