5 Trends in Design for 2016 HDC kicked off the new year with a bang at Bunch & Shoemaker Showroom. It was the first LUXE Panel Discussion for 2016 What s New, What s Now, What s Next! Three design experts including designers, Linda Eyles and Ben Johnston and architect, Shane Cook led the discussion. Ronda Rice Carman-Witaker moderated the lively panelists. Ronda is the founder of RONDA CARMAN FINE FABRICS, author of Designers at Home: Personal Reflections on Stylish Living, a contributing writer for Huffington Post and New York Social Diary; and a frequent speaker on the topic of design. A blended Pantone Color of the Year, Highly Personal Spaces, Mixed Metals in Kitchen & Bath, Outdoor Fabrics Indoors, Techfree Living Rooms and Fabrics on the Walls are a few examples of 2016 Design Trends discussed. Earlier in the day Post Modern Traditions hosted a continuing education program on LED lighting presented by the preeminent lighting expert Michael J. Smith and Bell & McCoy s Roy Inocencio. 6 HDC and LUXE Interiors + Design welcomed internationally celebrated designer Florence de Dampierre to Houston. Author, interior designer, lecturer, historian and entrepreneur, Ms. de Dampierre is known for her energetic personal style, warmth and exuberance. She grew up in Paris and currently lives in an old house in Connecticut. Guests enjoyed her enlightening presentation based on her latest book, French Chic Living. The event was hosted by Connie LeFevre and her staff at the upscale designer showroom Design House. A lovely champagne reception with Moet & Chandon Rosé and luncheon followed the presentation. Earlier in the day designers were hosted by Alkusari Stone for a continuing education class with Fred Jackson. 12 HDC Celebrates 30 Years of Fine Design Hundreds of HDC patrons gathered to toast the 30th anniversary of the Houston Design Center. The festive evening welcomed Fall Market Keynote Luminaries Phoebe Howard and Timothy Whealon. HDC Showrooms celebrated the occasion with delicious bites, signature cocktails, and entertainment, while guests participated in a fun scavenger hunt. Luxury chartered cars, courtesy of Audi Central Houston, took guests on tours of Somerset Green, the neighboring European-style residential community developed by HINES. There designers, architects and design fans toured model homes including Pelican Builders, Inc. and enjoyed champagne and bites by the resort-style pool. 13 Creative Risottos Shine at HDC Risotto Festival Fans of fine food, wine, fashion and design came together at The 11th International Risotto Festival which was held at HDC on Sunday, November 8. Chaired by Donae Cangelosi Chramosta and husband Rob Chramosta, this charitable event raised in excess of $100,000 for The Scarlett Fund for pediatric cancer research. More than 800 guests strolled around the venue enjoying delicious Italian foods prepared by some of Houston s top chefs along with Italian wines, live music and more. The Risotto Festival welcomed Rocco DiSpirito celebrity chef and cookbook author as one of the judges. Chef Justin Kouri with Recipe for Success won the day s competition with his red beet risotto. Runner s up of the blind tasting competition included Chef Maurizio Ferrarese, Quattro at The Four Seasons, Chef John Sikhattana, Straits Asian Bistro and Chef Scotty Campbell with Milestone Distributors.
