14 SIDEWALK SIGNS One sidewalk sign per establishment 6 sf max per side Must be within 3 of building, in front of establishment Maintain 8 sidewalk clearance width No lighting, bring in at night Wood, wood composite or metal, professional finish Insert has fixed message or chalkboard, dry eraser board, etc. Non-A-frame style (hinged at top) allowed if comply with DGs No bonus 14
15 PARKING GARAGE SIGNS Number, Size, Type and Placement Based on Design Guidelines Pedestrian scale for pedestrian entrances Larger scale for vehicular entrances Higher the sign, larger the size Design Guidelines = Design and locate to promote readability, proportionality, integration Locate where architectural features suggest Don t illuminate to be focal point of façade Raceways < 25% sign height Backboards blend with building 15
16 WALL SIGNS 1 st and 2 nd story establishments = one wall sign per building façade abutting street Size = 0.5 per linear foot of façade Max sized based on Frontage & Building Type (see chart below) 25% size increase with bonus Cannot extend above building wall May horizontally encroach ROW up to one foot Signs must be located on exterior of the space occupied exclusively by the establishment ( building frontage ) 16
17 WINDOW SIGNS 20% of window area, up to 16 sf less for Boardwalk, Detached House, Row House more if use wall sign allotment 25% size increase with bonus No oscillating, rope, low-voltage, strip, electronic display, television, computer monitor, backlit or internally illuminated 17
18 IN LIEU OF WALL SIGNS Option to apply wall sign allowance to one awning, canopy, window or projecting sign (per building façade) In-Lieu-of signs must comply with Design Guidelines (DGs): Materials Proportionality Integration Legibility Color Illumination 18
19 MISCELLANEOUS Buildings with interior establishments with no frontage allowed one additional wall sign, 20 sf max Buildings or Property for sale, lease or rent allowed one sign per leasable space or property < 100 feet wide, two signs if 100 feet or more Neon only permitted on window signs Electronic Display only permitted on Major Entertainment Venue or Municipal Oceanfront Entertainment Venue signs Changeable Copy only permitted on freestanding, wall or marquee signs 30% max of total sign area No bonus for signs with changeable copy 19
