40 PSLS Surveyor s Conference Workshop Information Form Workshop Number: Hours: 3.5 Workshop Description: Stormwater Review Part 1: Stormwater Hydraulics. This workshop covers basic hydraulics for stormwater management design. The following topics are covered: flow rate, conservation of mass, continuity, basic energy methods, Manning s equation, channel flow analysis, channel sizing, gravity flow pipe sizing, hydraulic elements chart for pipe flow, orifice equation, weir equation and multiple stage outlet structure rating curves. Participants will need a calculator for calculations and a small straight edge for reading charts. Suggested Speakers: 1. Tom Seybert 2. Andy Bennett Course Objectives: 1. Flow rate and conservation of mass 2. Basic energy concepts 3. Manning s equation for open channels 4. Hydraulic elements chart 5. Orifice and weir equations 6. Multi-stage outlet structure flow analysis Anticipated Learning Outcomes: 1. Understand the basic concept of conservation of mass and energy in stormwater analysis and design. 2. Use Manning s equation to analyze and size channels and pipes flowing partially full. 3. Use the hydraulic elements chart for circular pipes to determine flow area, depth and velocity design conditions. 4. Analyze a multi-stage outlet structure using orifice and weir flow equations.

41 PSLS Surveyor s Conference Workshop Information Form Workshop Number: Hours: 3.5 Workshop Description: Stormwater Review Part 2: Watersheds-Rainfall-CN. This workshop begins with the presentation of basic watershed characteristics as they relate to stormwater runoff calculations. Specific characteristics to be discussed include drainage area, watershed length, surface slope, hydrologic soil groups and land use/land cover. These topics will be followed by identifying rainfall data sources for Pennsylvania and nationally. The rainfall presentation will be followed by a presentation of the NRCS CN method for estimating surface runoff volumes. Participants will need a calculator for calculations and small straight edge for reading charts. Participants should be completely familiar with the topics covered in the Stormwater Review for Licensure Part 1 workshop before taking this workshop. Suggested Speakers: 1. Tom Seybert 2. Andy Bennett Course Objectives: 1. Rainfall characteristics and sources 2. Watershed characteristics 3. Runoff estimation using the NRCS CN method 4. Extreme event runoff calculations 5. Small event runoff calculations Anticipated Learning Outcomes: 1. Select a design rainfall based upon storm duration and frequency. 2. Delineate a watershed area and flow path. 3. Categorize soils, land use and land cover for a drainage area. 4. Compute runoff volumes for rainfall events using the NRCS CN method.

42 PSLS Surveyor s Conference Workshop Information Form Workshop Number: Hours: 3.5 Workshop Description: Stormwater Review Part 3: Travel Time-Hydrographs-Detention Storage. This workshop begins with the presentation of travel time methods and the concept of watershed time of concentration. The NRCS average velocity methods will be presented to analyze sheet flow, swale flow and channel flow. This topic will be followed with a discussion of two hydrograph methods namely the NRCS tabular hydrograph method of TR-55 (1986) and the NRCS unit hydrograph method as developed through the computer program WIN TR-55 (2009). Predevelopment and post development hydrographs will be investigated. Detention storage estimates to control post-development runoff will be presented using the NRCS TR-55 (1986) method and the CN difference method. Participants will need a calculator for calculations and small straight edge for reading charts. Participants should be completely familiar with the topics covered in the Stormwater Review for Licensure Part 2 workshop before taking this workshop. Suggested Speakers: 1. Tom Seybert 2. Andy Bennett Course Objectives: 1. Travel time and time of concentration 2. Sheet, swale and channel flow types 3. Segmental method for time of concentration 4. NRCS tabular hydrograph method 5. Detention storage estimates using CN difference and TR-55 Chapter 6. Anticipated Learning Outcomes: 1. Compute the time of concentration of drainage areas using the NRCS segmental method. 2. Compute design hydrographs for small to medium size drainage areas. 3. Estimate the detention storage requirements to manage post-development runoff to pre-development runoff conditions.

43 PSLS Surveyor s Conference Workshop Information Form Workshop Number: Hours: 3.5 Workshop Description: Stormwater Review Part 4: Rational Formula-Sedimentation Basin Sizing-Outlet Protection. The workshop addresses the Rational formula for peak flow estimates. Specifically the elements of units, drainage area, land use, land cover, Rational C coefficient, time of concentration and rainfall intensity selection will be addressed. This topic will be followed by the sizing of sedimentation basins and outlet pipe protection design as prescribed by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection E&S manual. Participants will need a calculator for calculations and small straight edge for reading charts. Participants should be completely familiar with the topics covered in the Stormwater Review for Licensure Part 3 workshop before taking this workshop. Suggested Speakers: 1. Tom Seybert 2. Andy Bennett Course Objectives: 1. Rational formula for peak flow 2. Sizing of sedimentation basins in Pennsylvania 3. Outlet protection design in Pennsylvania Anticipated Learning Outcomes: 1. Estimate peak flow rates from a small watershed using the Rational formula. 2. Compute the storage volume requirements for a sedimentation basin. 3. Design outlet protection for a pipe outfall.
