The purpose of the parks advisory committee is to make recommendations to the governing body concerning city owned parks and parkland. The committee shall also act as a tree board to recommend regulations relating to the planting of trees, shrubs and other plantings upon city owned property; to promote beautification of the city and the protection of the public health and safety; and to provide for the preservation and removal of diseased tree, shrubs and plantings. Concern about mowing company: ``Here are 6 photos of mowing issues remaining after the August 31 mowing of R Park and Cooper Creek. We know these are all problems you have addressed previously with the mowing company, so we thought you d want to have photos of these continuing problems. Thanks for keeping on top of them. A need has been suggested for a 6-8-hole course (since kids have more trouble maneuvering a full 18-hole course) d. The money is use it or lose it there is money for art in next year s budget, but any money left unspent this year goes into a general fund 2. Rain garden idea for buttery garden (Becky) D. R Park 1. 5 Attachment 3: Parks to-do items highlighted for R Park sculpture timeline Timeline for R Park Sculpture Contract, Creation, Concrete Foundation, Installation and Dedication By End of October, Artist Contract is presented to City Council for approval on Oct. 15, Contract is signed by City of Roeland Park and Jorge Blanco. -All fundraising money is in place. -Artist s invoice to the City for half of sculpture cost: $22, City has invoice approved by Roeland Park Community Foundation and has the check ready to be sent to Artist when the contract is signed by both Parties. -City sends check for $22,000 to Artist as first half of cost. November, 2018-April, Artist has 6 months for creation of sculpture January & February, Artist provides pertinent engineered concrete foundation information to engineer. Jared Luebe, engineer, makes sketches for the engineered concrete foundation and shares them with Jan Duncan, contractor, and the City. - Sculpture plaque wording is approved by Arts Committee, with consultation from Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art -Landscaping (if any) around the sculpture will be decided (Public Works and Arts, Parks and Sustainability Committees input) Between March 1 and April 20, Public Works, Joel Marquardt, Parks Committee, Arts Committee and Sculpture Work Group determine and mark the exact location and orientation of the concrete sculpture foundation in R Park - Jan Duncan of Synergy Construction Co. constructs the concrete foundation for the sculpture by April 20, 2019, under the supervision of Public Works. - Midtown Signs sculpture plaque wording and donors names are submitted and plaque is ordered -Arts Committee. Parks Committee and Public Works decides on location of sculpture plaque in R Park -Landscaping (if any) plants and materials are ordered. -Dedication Ceremony is planned by Sculpture Work Group. May, Jorge Blanco packs and ships sculpture from Sarasota, FL, to R Park, located at 5535 Juniper in Roeland Park. Ask for morning delivery to R Park. -Delivery date and time are provided by transport company most likely it will be in transport for 1 week. -Date and time are agreed upon by Artist, City, Jan Duncan and the Davises so the artist, 3 workers and fork lift/ pallet will be at the park site ready to receive delivery of the sculpture to be installed that same day. -Artist makes airline reservations. -Davises make lodging reservations for artist. -City pays artist for packing and shipping costs (est. $1,500). -City pays artist $1,500 for personal liability insurance during installation. Following the Sculpture Installation -City pays the Artist the remaining half of sculpture cost: $22,000. -Landscaping (if any) will be completed with volunteers and Mike Wilson, landscaper, under Public Works guidance.. -Sculpture Plaque is installed by Midtown Signs, under the supervision of Public Works. -Community Sculpture Dedication and Celebration will be planned, scheduled, publicized and held (in conjunction with Parks, Events, Arts and Sustainability committees.
