2 We took a look at the state of cities in India. Social infrastructure Social infrastructure standards are inadequate to meet the ever-growing and crowding population Physical Infrastructure Low standards of service delivery Clean water is scarce; traffic congestions are the norm Number of hospitals / 1000 capita Current Indian standard Basic required Best-in-class Class toom area / student (m2) Number of firemen / 1000 capita Electric pole Number of policemen / 1000 capita Environment The well-maintained green and open spaces available are very few Waste management systems are not enforced strongly Dharavi, Mumbai Amaravati wanted to redefine the urban livelihood and standards in India. 2

3 Amaravati is planned to be India s first Happy City. 4 The vision was to develop a world-class city. Amaravati, the People's capital of Andhra Pradesh, is envisioned to be the pioneer Smart City and economic hub of India, with world-class infrastructure, and high livability quotient in an environmentally sustainable manner while capitalizing on its rich heritage World class Jobs and homes Green andclean Quality living Efficient resource infrastructure for all management Identity and heritage 4

5 The large river front and open spaces in the city lend a high liveability quotient. Large 21km Riverfront by the city Open vibrant spaces across the city Over 60km of canals through the city, developed into navigable canals Large neighbourhood parks, town parks and central parks across the city The city has over 30% of its area dedicated for open and green spaces 5

Transport NMT: Over 1500kms of cycle tracks Fully integrated mobility plan, with Public Transport within 15minute walk from any point Energy Water supply All energy needs for public amenities of the city from renewable sources of energy Promote Electric Vehicles and hybrid fuel transport High quality potable water available across the city Smart water systems; no leakages Waste management 100% Solid waste segregation at source Waste-to-energy systems Smart Infrastructure Completely digital SCADA infrastructure management Transparent and innovation friendly 7

8 The development of Amaravati is broadly spread over 5 stages. Land Pooling Scheme: About 34,000+ Ac. of land pooled A first of its kind scheme in India, making locals key stakeholders in development 90% land in control of. Master Architect for designing Govt. complex on-board Blue Consultant engaged for Flood Management works & planning of urban waterways Elaborated further Land Planning Design Development Operations Final Masterplan notified Strategy consultant on-board for preparation of Socio-economic Masterplan Masterplan for infrastructure finalized Blue & Green Masterplans being prepared by globally renowned consultants Construction of roads has commenced Interim Secretariat complex for over 5,000 employees completed Construction commenced for returnable plot layouts Infrastructure Economic development undergoing; 1000 acres alloted 8

9 The Government entered into a partnership with the farmers The Land Pooling Scheme is the largest of its kind in the world Farmers voluntarily pool their land to the Government, in return for Residential and commercial plots in a developed layout Annuity Social benefits health, education The Government made the people a partner in the development, rather than follow often coercive land acquisition Fastest land procurement in history of the country - over 33,000 acres from 24,000 famers in 6 months Over 54,000 plots have been handed back to the farmers currently 9

10 And has identified 4 pillars of development envisaged for development by 2018 (1/2) Fully functional Government Complex Smart and sustainable Infrastructure Area of 900 acres with over 30% green spaces. Iconic as well as functional buildings: Legislature, High Court & Secretariat Convention centers, Retail space Housing Over 9m sq.ft. built up area for Govt. buildings Over 7.5m sq.ft. for Govt. employee housing Target: Completion by Economic development across 9 themes Exemplary social and community infrastructure Sustainable physical infrastructure for 217sq.km.; design population of 3.5m Power (through PPP) Water supply & Sewerage (through PPP) Roads & Public Transportation ICT (through PPP) Solid Waste Management Multi-utility Corridors Smart city management infrastructure 10

11 And has identified 4 pillars of development envisaged for development by 2018 (2/2) Fully functional Government Complex Smart and sustainable Infrastructure Economic development across 9 themes Exemplary social and community infrastructure 1. Immediate business opportunities in Amaravati include: 1. Electronic manufacturing 2. Hi-Tech manufacturing 3. High-end service (IT, R&D) 4. Healthcare 5. Fashion and Apparel 6. Tourist attractions 2. Area development projects spanning mixed-use commercial, residential areas can also be explored. In order to achieve high livability, high end social infrastructure is planned: 1. Housing 2. International Schools 3. High-end hotels / resorts 4. Convention centers / MICE hub 5. Shopping mall 6. Riverfront development 7. Central and Regional parks 8. Stadium / Sport facilities 11
