34 CASUAL USE SPACES- DESIGN CHARACTERISTICS Casual use spaces shall be: OPEN o unobstructed or minimally obstructed (e.g., minimal fencing) o usable and occupiable o available to the public, at least at specified times o visible from surrounding areas GREEN o host to substantial natural features, trees, vegetation, and/or grass FLEXIBLE o flexibly designed to enable multiple types of casual use o equipped with features that encourage use (e.g., benches, picnic tables, and walking paths) VISIBLE o intentionally designed, rather than leftover, spaces o marked by visible signage o avoid dead-ends and areas that are not highly visible 34
