Boundary Description and Justification: This resource occupies 0.25 acres on three typical city plats on 7th Street. General architectural description: This house rests on a stone foundation with a crawl space. The north elevation has frontage on 7 th Street. The house is clad in horizontal vinyl siding with corner trim and fasciae as decorative elements. There is large fifteen light window set under the eave at the northwest corner. Offset from center to the east is a one over one sash window. The main entry is on the west elevation at the northwest corner. It has divided light sidelights, and an entry porch covered by a shed roof bearing onto steel tube posts. A metal rail spans between the posts. To the south is a square fixed window, and in the center of the west elevation is a fixed window with a narrow transom. Further south is a small horizontal slider, and at the enclosed porch addition, covered by a shed roof, is an additional slider. The south elevation has an entry as the addition located at the southwest corner. To the east is a small square casement window. Further east, on the main façade is a one over one sash window. Given existing vegetation, and the close proximity of this house to its eastern neighbor the east elevation could not be viewed. A brick chimney rises from the eastern roof pitch. 22. Architectural style/building type: Other 23. Landscaping or special setting features: At the front elevation, there are mature conifers. A paved drive leads to the garage at the rear. There is a vegetable and flower garden enclosed by a post and beam fence at the southwest corner of the lot. 24. Associated buildings, features, or objects: There is a detached garage on the southeast corner of the lot, into which a storage shed is also incorporated. Access is from the alley and the north elevation. Fenestration is limited to horizontal sliders and the structure has an asymmetrical N-S gabled roof. A six foot wood fence spans from the edge of the shed to the southwest corner of the lot along the alley. Temporary

Historical background: Because no primary data on the resource has been found, a general background follows. The 1900s marked a time of transportation development. The Yampa Valley was an established ranching area, while Hahn's Peak was the county seat through 1912, with intensive mining operations. In 1905, the Steamboat Springs population was reported as 800. The arrival of the railroad to Steamboat Springs in 1908 facilitated the movement of stock and ore to Denver and further east. This connectivity also increased tourist numbers to Steamboat Springs. Statement of significance: This resource is one of several similar bungalows that are the core of historic resources along 7th Street, although modified. The resources at 441 7th Street and 439 7th Street have already been surveyed. This resource was constructed in the same year as and with the same configuration as the bungalow at th Street. Alteration to historic elements on any of these resources would undermine the feeling of the street. This resource is similar in scale, massing, and materials to its neighbors and therefore fits into its setting very well. The resource is significant, because it is representative of a typical residence in Steamboat Springs at this time period. 43. Assessment of historic physical integrity related to significance: The configuration of the resource has not been altered. The original fenestration has been retained. Both of these attributes contribute to the historic feeling and aesthetic evoked by the resource. This new material undermines the historic integrity of the resource, and as a result, the resource can not be considered eligible for designation. Enclosing a covered porch at the northwest corner of the house, which was identical to the porch at th Street and the recladding of the resource in synthetic siding undermine the 1910 character of the home. This district comprises of a tree-lined streetscape with one and a half storey bungalows, cottages and Craftsman styled residences. There is a high degree of uniformity along this street.
