1 Elm Street Business District: Streetscape and Signage Plan VILLAGE OF WINNETKA DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN VILLAGE COUNCIL MEETING Final Streetscape & Signage Planning Teska Associates 04 June 2018
2 WHY WE RE HERE We ve discussed streetscape for 10+ years; Our peers are investing in their downtowns and experiencing success; Our community wants experiences in the downtown public spaces, requiring streetscape enhancements; We adopted the DMP November 2016; Draft Streetscape & Signage Master Plan is not about beautification but reinvigoration, walkability and quality of life; We are looking for approval to adopt the Master Plan & implement phase 1.
3 INTRODUCTION Portions of the streetscape are in poor condition (ADA compliance; inconsistent lighting; tree health; site furnishings) Downtown businesses need our support to attract visitors, encourage lingering, expand their visit and return again. Key features of the Streetscape & Signage Plan: Outdoor living rooms Clear and open sidewalks Balanced impacts to on-street parking Healthful conditions for trees Enhanced trail tree brand identity
