1 Welcome We are here Welcome to our first Open Day event About us This is the first of many opportunities to have your say on the development of the. Urban&Civic was founded specifically to enable and deliver strategic development in growth areas across the UK. As a business we are defined by the quality of projects we deliver. Our focus is on high quality, low carbon, transformative developments, brought forward through engagement and partnership with local authorities and communities. Within Cambridgeshire, we are also the owners and developers of Alconbury Weald creating an Enterprise Campus and new community on the former USAF base near Huntingdon. We have appointed an expert team to help us develop design proposals for and Airfield. Many members of the team are here today to ask and answer questions.
2 History Officially opened in January 1941, the site was operated by the RAF throughout the Second World War and postwar period, handing over to the Royal Engineers in airfield was used successively for bombers, for training, by Transport Command (until 1950), and for fighter squadrons (until 1962) A museum was set up by the Royal Engineers in 1985, to commemorate the men and women who served at RAF station. The were vacated by the MoD in March Lancaster bombers were based at RAF. This crew was photographed there in 1945 Urban&Civic are working with the Military Heritage Museum Trust to ensure the full story of the site s military history is told. Existing site. 3 Process Urban&Civic has been selected as DIO s development partner for the brownfield barracks and airfield The Draft Local Plan designates the barracks and airfield, together with adjoining land to the north and east as a major development site area within the wider study area. A Development Framework is being produced by Urban&Civic with the District Council to help guide development within the Local Plan designation. The community has recently agreed a Neighbourhood Plan area with the District Council which extends to the full parish boundary. The opportunity exists to align the Neighbourhood Plan, Development framework and Local Plan. To support all these processes we have developed an engagement strategy with the input of the Parish Council, District Council, County Council and Neighbourhood Plan Working Group. This open day is an early part of that strategy. How do we best engage with you? How can our work support the Neighbourhood Plan process? The existing runway. Photo taken July 2014
