1 Sustainable Urban Metropolitan Solutions May in Berlin, Germany Draft conference program as of 19 May 2016
2 Summary After a successful first edition in May 2015, ICLEI will host the 2nd Sustainable Urban China Conference at Metropolitan Solutions 2016 in Berlin and is determined to establish the Sustainable Urban China conference as an annual platform for German-Chinese / European- Chinese exchange on sustainable urban development, city-business dialogue and city-to-city exchange. This concept note serves as a basis for discussion with interested partners and outlines the intended purpose, structure, topics and involvement opportunities envisioned by ICLEI. Key conference information Conference date: 31 May 2016, 09:30 18:00 Conference venue: Metropolitan City Cube, Berlin Exhibition Grounds Expected participants: 150 Conference languages: English and Chinese Purpose and intent Sustainable Urban Development has become a core area of cooperation between China and Europe and Germany in particular on all levels of government. Institutional frameworks like the EU-China Partnership on Urbanization, the new Sino-German Urbanization Partnership and multiple longstanding regional and city-to-city partnerships provide a strong basis for international cooperation and exchange. Yet, with the increase in institutional complexity, the need for a common meeting platform for Chinese and European / German actors involved in urbanization and sustainable urban development issues from all sectors becomes evident. ICLEI, together with interested partners and contributors, intends to establish such a platform in Germany through the annual conference Sustainable Urban China.
