2 Preamble The seventh edition of Agora the architecture, urban planning and design biennial will be held on 21, 22, 23 and 24 September This biennial gives the City of Bordeaux an opportunity to communicate with the general public about their own urban living environment and consequently address issues relating to urban planning, architecture and design in a very diverse range of forms: exhibitions, debates, films, games, competitions, etc. This event is also an opportunity to reward key players who are helping to improve the city and the well-being of its inhabitants. In 2008, the 1 st edition of the Agora Design Prize focused on city's riverbanks, by inviting young designers to participate in deliberations on the topic of "Living on the Riverbank, Banking on the River" (Habiter les quais, habiter à quais). In 2010, the City of Bordeaux decided that the competition would concern the design of an eminently urban object the "Agora coffee cup" (La tasse Agora). The prize was won by Arnaud Lapierre for his "star anis" coffee cup. This design idea was revisited in 2012, with the winner being "A Coffee in the Clouds" (Un café dans les nuages) by the Quentin Vaulot & Goliath Dyèvre team. The 2014 prize went to Valentin Dufacteur, a student at ISAA Rennes, for "Apollo". Article 1 - Organiser As part of the Agora Biennial 2017, the City of Bordeaux is organising a design competition. Article 2 - Subject Chaired by Pablo Reinoso, this new edition invites applicants from the creative and design fields to design a coffee cup. Applicants must therefore design a recipient that can be used for drinking coffee. They shall be free to choose the material to be used for creating the container, provided that it is durable and recyclable. Coffee plays an important social role in our societies by helping us maintain family links, friendships and professional relationships, etc. We believe that its container should reflect this special function. Article 3 - Applicants/teams This competition is open to students enrolled at establishments delivering education in architecture, design, art, decorative arts or landscaping, and also to professional designers. For team applications, at least one of the team members must meet these criteria. Teams shall consist of no more than three members. There shall be no age limit and there is no minimum level of qualification.

3 Article 4 - Registration/anonymity Applicants must register by Thursday 15 th September, 2016 at the latest, via the online form accessed via the Agora Biennial website at the following address: Presentation files shall be submitted to the jury on an anonymous basis. To guarantee their anonymity, applicants shall provide an APPLICANT CODE, which they will enter in the relevant field on the registration form. This code must consist of three numbers followed by three capital letters 000LLL. This code must imperatively be entered on all of the documents transmitted. Article 5 - Composition of the projects (French or English) 1. An explanatory notice in.doc format shall accompany the project and must include: A title consisting of no more than 70 characters A summary note of no more than 100 words, presenting the design approach and the aims (in French, English or Spanish). The explanatory notice shall be named in the following manner: APPLICANT CODE_PROJECT TITLE-notice.doc 2. Two vertical panels (80x60 cm) in.pdf format with a minimum definition of 300 dpi The panels shall show: The title The graphical representations, plans, cross-sections, and/or sketches, details The design approach The visuals The panels shall be named in the following manner: APPLICANT CODE_PROJECT TITLE-panels.doc 3. A file in.doc format including all of the textual elements and illustrations on the panels for the promotional needs of the project. This file shall be named in the following manner: APPLICANT CODE_PROJECT TITLE-elements.doc

4 Article 6 - Receipt of the projects The projects must be sent by Thursday 15th December, 2016 at the latest, via the download link mentioned on the web page for the Design Prize on All of the documents must be contained within a single zipped folder which shall be named in the following manner: APPLICANT CODE_PROJECT TITLE.zip Folders that are incomplete or fail to satisfy the conditions, and folders sent after the deadline shall be excluded from the selection procedure. Article 7 - Ownership of the projects Applicants shall retain ownership of their creations. Applicants can protect their projects by filing a "Soleau envelope" (a sealed envelope serving as proof of priority for inventions in France). All participants in the competition agree to their projects being exhibited, published and disseminated in compliance with the law in force on copyright. Article 8 - Composition of the jury The Agora Design jury shall consist of members chosen from the design and design education fields. This edition shall be chaired by the designer Pablo Reinoso. Article 9 - Selection criteria The selection criteria adopted by the jury shall incorporate: - Relevance of the proposal - Ergonomics of the proposal - Originality, innovation and creativity - Compliance with the constraints of the subject - Clarity of explanations about the project - Quality of the artistic expression of the documents - Execution - Budgetary and technical feasibility Article 10 - The jury's choices The jury shall be completely free and independent in its choices. The jury shall select one project for the "Agora 2017 Coffee Cup" prize. It may also give special mentions. Article 11 - Cash awards

5 Three prizes shall be awarded to best three projects designated by the jury. First prize: 2,500 Second prize: 2,000 Third prize: 1,000 The projects may be exhibited during the Agora 2017 event and, when applicable, at other cultural events. Subject to the design and production opportunities, a prototype of the winning project may be created for this edition. Article 11- Awards ceremony The results shall be announced in February This announcement will lead to a press conference with the Mayor of Bordeaux. The prizes shall be officially awarded at the Agora event on Saturday 23 September Article 12- Modification or cancellation of the competition The Agora 2017 organising body reserves the right to modify, extend or cancel this competition if required to do so by the circumstances. Its liability cannot be incurred by doing so. Article 13- Acceptance of the regulations The fact of participating in the competition implies acceptance of these regulations. The participants authorise the organisers of Agora 2017 to include information about their projects, in addition to their names and contact details, in any public relations operations relating to this competition, without granting any other rights. The participants agree to be photographed and authorise the use of their image and of images of their project in any promotional events relating to the competition.
