1 WEBINAR WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 9:00AM 10:30 AM EST The World Bank s South Asia Sustainable Development Unit (SASDU) is excited to launch an Urbanization Webinar Series, an initiative to share, generate, and innovate, best practices to shape our sustainable urban future. This online forum is an opportunity to engage and facilitate a dialogue between the practitioners and policymakers from within and outside the region, and to learn from the successful and effective initiatives across the globe. We hope that the webinar series will lead to stimulating discussions and knowledge exchange. The South Asia Sustainable Development Unit (SASDU), in collaboration with East Asia Pacific Sustainable Development Unit (EASIN), cordially invite you to our first webinar on Waterfront Development on January 10, 2013 from 9:00am to 10:30am EST. Rivers, canals, harbors, bays, and beachfronts have always been important growth nodes for cities and civilizations. Today, cities along waterbodies face many challenges due to water pollution, rising sea-levels, brownfield contamination, abandoned and underutilized waterfront properties. In this session, we will cover global perspectives on transforming waterfronts, and case studies on cities which have and are in the process of successfully transforming waterfront into a thriving economic engine while balancing social and environmental needs. The presentations will be followed by a question and answer session. Join our experts including Peter Ellis, The World Bank; Richard Marshall, Perkins+Will; Victor Vergara, The World Bank; Michael Grove, Sasaki Associates; and Bonnie A. Harken, Nautilus International Development Consulting, Inc. The webinar is open to urban practitioners in the public and private sectors. Please extend the invitation to interested persons. You can join sessions via Adobe Connect and submit your questions through Adobe Connect chat window.
