2 City of Lake Jackson Civic Center Splashpad Planting Plan with White Oak Studio, Houston The client wanted trees and a planting plan to provide shade for children and visitors to the splashpad attached to the Civic Center. We went a step further and designed the space as a link with the public library next door, an outdoor reading room, and in doing so created a focal point for the end of the major civic center axis. The design further engages the surrounding landscape with bald cypress trees spiraling outwards, which provide shade and more play area for young visitors. The plant selection was in keeping with the nature of the public space. Jim Patterson, RLA, directed me to be the lead designer, with Kevin Knowak advising. 2

Using existing photos and original construction drawings from the 1940 s, we determined potential scupper elevation samples at the client s request. 6
