Aims of IFLA What does IFLA aim to achieve? IFLA is an independent, international, non governmental, not forprofit organization to: Promote high standards of provision and delivery of library and information services; Encourage widespread understanding of the value of good library & information services; Represent the interests of IFLA members throughout the world.
IFLA Asia & Oceania One of the largest regional section in IFLA; Represents 62 countries from Afghanistan to Yemen ; Divided into six sub regions ; Central Asia East Asia South Asia Southeast Asia West Asia Oceania Around 300 registered members from 51 member countries.
IFLA Global Vision project The challenges faced by the library field due to ever increasing globalization can only be met and overcome by an inclusive, global response from a united library field. IFLA has engaged thousands of librarians and library friends in IFLA s Global Vision discussion a venture that will generate a united library field roadmap for the future. There has never been such an initiative before, which gives every single librarian in the world the chance to contribute.
IFLA Global Vision Journey 2017 In April 2017 IFLA organized a kick off workshop in Athens, Greece. IFLA also organized a series of high level meetings and 6 regionals workshops involving participants from 140 countries during April to June These regional discussions were held in Washington D.C., Yaoundé, Alexandria, Buenos Aires, Singapore and Madrid. The workshops focused on how to strengthen the ties within the library field and helped identify future challenges and opportunities for the library field. These workshops also helped prioritize actions that the library environment could take in response to the fast pacing changes in societies.
IFLA Global Vision Journey 2017 The meetings and workshops followed a similar format and were focused on a set of questions designed through a collaborative process, e.g. What are libraries exceptionally good at? What are the main challenges to libraries? What would be the characteristics of a united library field?. and so on. Participants of all meetings and workshops were asked to facilitate their own workshops within their communities, countries and library networks. Also, a set of guidelines for librarians and library friends interested in organizing their own, self facilitated meetings were made available in 7 IFLA official languages. From the kick off meeting in Athens in Spring 2017, each workshop has contributed its own droplet into an ever expanding river of ideas.
IFLA Global Vision: Sections and SIGs IFLA also involved section officers and members of various IFLA units to discuss and explore how a connected library field can meet the challenges of the future. That includes IFLA Members gathered in its 44 IFLA Sections and 16 Special Interest Groups (SIGs), as well as Strategic Programmes and Review Groups. The discussions were carried out during both face to face and online meetings IFLA units involved more than 450 people in their discussions. They shared their thoughts and experience, providing invaluable input to the global conversation about the united library field
Global Vision Online Survey The online voting platform was launched in August 2017 during WLIC held at Wroclaw It included the set of questions used in the regional meetings and workshops Survey answer options were based on the outcome of the 6 regional workshops The online voting was completed on 16 October 2017 Approximately votes were received on this survey Contributions came from 213 countries and territories of the world And 190 out of 193 UN Member States

Statement of IFLA Secretary General, Gerald Leitner Since IFLA launched the Global Vision Discussion I have been delighted at the response from library professionals from all over the world to get involved and discuss how the library field can become stronger and more connected to tackle the challenges of globalization. The workshops were just the beginning. Now, the Global Vision movement reaches out to everyone. We want discussions taking place in all countries, all communities and all libraries so that every voice can be heard. Our vision, Our future!
