3 The L Arche Logo A corporate visual identity ensures the identity and visual recognition of an organization. It conveys a message and a reputation a brand. It also contributes to develop the identification of employees, members, shareholders, or clients as part the organization. The logotype comprises of two elements: a symbol and a name. The symbol of L Arche is a boat. It includes two waves and three people. It should not be used without the name L ARCHE. Together, they create the logotype that has been registered, and which is the most important part of L Arche s visual identity. The corporate visual identity must be applied to all documents and tools, whatever their objective, use or characteristics. Hence, it applies to: websites, social networks, signatures business cards and official correspondence brochures and press releases official documents and reports L Arche newsletters and bulletins audio-visual and multimedia documents If you have any doubts or questions regarding the L Arche corporate visual identity, we invite you to contact the L Arche USA Communications Department.
4 The L Arche Logo: Primary Logo, vertical The vertical logo lock up is the primary logo and should be used whenever possible. It should be used whenever possible for both printed and digital collateral. Additional logos that include identifying typography for individual L Arche locations have been created and are provided as needed (see USA and Tahoma Hope Farm & Gardens examples). The relationship of the boat graphic to type lockup should be used exactly as seen here; the logo has been crafted to balance icon and type so that neither dominates or becomes insignificant.
5 The L Arche Logo: Secondary Logo, Horizontal This is the secondary (landscape) version of the logo. It is the preferred version when space dictates a more horizontal application of the logo. It too should maintain the integrity of the proportions established here. Additional logos that include identifying typography for individual L Arche locations have been created and are provided as needed (see USA and Tahoma Hope Farm & Gardens examples). Please note that the scale relationship of the boat graphic and typography of logo without the location is slightly different than the logo when the typography indicating location is included. 7 DO respect the position of the name and symbol. DO use the symbol. The L Arche Logo: Do RECOMMENDATIONS: The position of the name L ARCHE in regards to the symbol must be respected. The Registered that follows the name L ARCHE is necessary in certain countries. An exclusion zone must be respected (a minimum space around the logo, in which no text or images are included) to ensure legibility. This zone is the size of the height of the L ARCHE letters (which represent 25% of the total height of the logotype). It is important that no elements or graphics encroach on the clearing space so that the logo stands out on all applications. The logo may be reproduced in L Arche s blue, black, or reversed to white. Do not use the logo in any other color. DO respect the exclusion zone. Clearing space should be measured from the farthest edge of each side of the logo. RECOMMENDATIONS: Always use the L Arche blue 293 as the primary color whenever color is used, especially with the L Arche logo. This color should be the most frequently used and significant color to be associated with L Arche. Any color from the secondary palette may be used with the primary blue color, and with other colors from the secondary palette. All colors may be used with varying degress of opacity.
9 TYPEFACE 1: LOGO TYPE Typography The L Arche Identity employs 3 main typefaces for all communications. It is a highly unique typeface well-suited to create a memorable logo type. DO NOT use Bosanova for any other purprose, as its use would compete with the logo. TYPEFACE 2: Gill Sans Gill Sans is a sans-serif typeface that works well independently, and its geometric forms work well in conjunction with the logo type and the recommended serif face, Minion. Gill Sans has many weights available. It is be used in all publications and any context where a sans serif face is desired. To use Gill Sans for a website, please utilize the face Prenton, which is a close relative of Gill Sans, and is available from Adobe Typekit. TYPEFACE 3: Minion/Minion Pro Minion is a serif typeface that works well independently, and in conjunction with the logo type and the recommended sans-serif face, Gill Sans. Minion, and especially Minion Pro, has many weights available. It is be used in all publications and any context where a serif face is desired. Minion is available from Adobe Typekit for use on websites. DISPLAY TYPEFACES Always use the recommended typefaces for any public-facing communications. However, in addition to the recommended faces, a display typeface may sometimes be desirable as a design element. Display faces may be used when appropriate, but they should significantly contrast from the standard L Arche typography.
10 EXAMPLES Graphic Elements: Photography All imagery must promote the vitality, beauty and joy experienced in our communities without obscuring the reality of disability or the suffering involved. We must promote the mutual nature of relationships. All imagery must portray people with disabilities through words and pictures in such a way that the vision promoted is one of dignity and respect. RECOMMENDATIONS: Photos can be black & white or color. Subject matter should be candid, and display the beauty of ordinary life at L Arche. Show photos of life in the communities, of mutually transforming relationships, activities, celebrations etc. Be inclusive of diversity when using more than one photo.. Giving a voice to people with disabilities requires expertise and professionalism. All images used should be high quality: they should be used at the appropriate resolution (300dpi for print, dpi for digital use), be in focus, and clear. Whenever possible, professional-quality photography is preferred. Make sure you have everybody s authorization (author and people on the photos). Write captions for each photo with the names of the people on the photo and the name of the photographer. The use of stock photography, particularly stock images of people not a part of the L Arche community, is not recommended.
11 EXAMPLES Graphic Elements: Wave Geometric shapes and graphic elements that work directly with the brand identity can be used to extend the overall visual identity of an organization. The most significant graphic shape in the L Arche visual vocabulary is the soft wave. The wave may be used as a linear element or as a solid field of color to break up compositional space. RECOMMENDATIONS: The wave shape must echo the shape of the waves in the L arche logo. The wave shape may be used to create headers for websites, newsletters and other forms of communication. Please Note: In the example above the wave shape is used both as a header for the newsletter and as a linear graphic element to separate compositional space. Imagine the World Differently In 20 L Arche communities across the United States people like Elisha and David are helping others imagine the world differently by living together in peace and unity. As our founder says, we discover in L Arche that the essence of the human being is weakness and at the core of this weakness is a loving heart. Our weakness unites us and becomes the place of relationship as we realize our great need for one another. Can you imagine such a world, where weakness is seen as a gift? 12 EXAMPLES Graphic Elements: Grid IMAGINE A modular grid is a clean and straightforward way to break up compositional space to include room for type, image, and graphic elements.
