These notes record our understanding of items discussed and decisions made at this meeting. Please notify us within seven (7) calendar days of any necessary additions or corrections. McClure Engineering was selected to perform civil engineering services for the Parking Lot work. ii. Cotter outlined time line and schedule for parking lot renovation projects. 1. Parking Lot #8 and service road extension to be completed by 11/15/ Parking Lots #7 and #7a 3. Parking Lots #2 and #3 to be resurfaced (not critical) iii. CLC indicated Parking Lot #6 is currently used by PACE for bus parking and should be reconfigured to accommodate safer bus traffic on site. iv. CLC noted bioswales should be considered and if possible integrated into parking lot renovation.

Legat to prepare draft Landscaping Architects scope definition and review with the committee at the next meeting. ii. CLC (Rory Klick) presented ideas developed by the Horticulture Department s Site Planning Working Group 1. See attached: 1. Site Program Overview presentation (attached) 2. List of Key Landscape and Site Priorities (attached) iii. Cotter and Legat indicated current Site related budget is limited to approximately $4,300,000. iv. CLC noted interior courtyards should be modified to implement no-mow planting. v. Butterfly garden will be relocated to accommodate Science and Engineering Addition construction. CLC to identify new location. vi. Landscaped areas should be developed to facilitate LEED certification of future projects. vii. Follow-up: 1. Site planning committee to develop list of priorities that correspond to available budget. 2. Remaining items to be identified for future implementation. c. Kiln Yard i. Cotter indicated Kiln Yard probable project cost was identified at $250,000. CLC noted the project may need to be downsized to reflect available funding. CLC and Cotter to confirm project budget. d. Athletic Fields i. CLC indicated that athletic fields renovation is not included in the current site budget. 2. Schedule a. Meeting dates changed to Fridays to accommodate additional participants. b. 5 Project Description SITE PROGRAM COMMITTEE Key site and landscape renovation priorities The Site Committee is charged with assembling the criteria for and making recommendations regarding all outdoor spaces with respect to sustainability, reduced maintenance, and improving the water quality of Willow Lake. The committee's responsibilities include conducting a campus tree inventory, creating a planting strategy, and implementing best practices for storm water management. Guiding Principles The Sustainable Sites Initiative: Guidelines and Performance Benchmarks 2009 is the product of more than four years of work by a diverse group of experts in soils, hydrology, vegetation, materials and human health and well-being. It includes criteria for sustainable land practices that will enable built landscapes to support natural ecological functions by protecting existing ecosystems and regenerating ecological capacity where it has been lost. Mission: Reconnection The current College of Lake County campus site plan is disconnected. Roads are confusing, entrances are unclear, and the landscape is disparate and uninviting. The opportunity for the Site Program Committee is to facilitate reconnection through cohesive site design of the outdoor resources, and to create a model of sustainable site best practices for the larger community. Every facet of education whether academics, arts or athletics supports a single message: What we do here is important. You deserve the best tools to help you reach your full potential. And we expect your best performance in return. Research shows that involvement in afterschool activities and sports is key to how well youth develop and mature. ( Planning your Athletic Facility, Wenger) 1. Complete campus trail system Complete loop surrounding campus commensurate with x-country running competition requirements, and add additional sub-loops for shorter walking and biking routes 2. Athletic area renovations Create welcoming entrance to PE building with room for recreation, improve existing baseball and tennis facilities, and add sand volleyball courts to interior lawn 1
6 Renovated PE building entrance to include outdoor gathering and active classroom spaces, finish line, bike depot and landscaping Baseball field repairs to include improved drainage, expanded bleachers, additional parking, restrooms and lighting Tennis court reconfiguration to include 6 th court, bleachers, windbreaks and lighting Create sand volleyball courts across from PE building to allow special events and casual use 3. Renovated ceramics facility Relocate and expand ceramics facility for improved access, safety and student capacity 4. Parking area renovations Lots 2/3 renovation and Lot 8 expansion are budgeted at $2.8 million. These improvements should include permeable paving, new landscape islands and bioswales for stormwater filtration 2
7 Lot 8 expansion with permeable paving, bioswale and lighting Lot 2/3 resurfacing and reorganization to include tree islands, northern curbing and bioswale Lot 7 reconfiguration with bioswales and permeable paving stalls Lot 6 expansion to include concrete bus lanes, improved ingress/egress and separation from parking Revised strategy for providing deciduous shade for southern exposure and xeriscape groundlayer 5. Science building landscape Add deciduous shade to southern exposure and drought-tolerant native plantings to groundlayer, create native habitat garden within circle drive, and integrate rainwater catchment for irrigation 3
8 Native and perennial habitat garden within revised circle drive that accommodates student gathering Rainwater catchment for irrigation Creation of outdoor event and gathering space between cafeteria and Willow Lake including development of shoreline access 6. Outdoor classroom and courtyard spaces Renovate/expand outdoor space adjacent to new cafeteria and Willow Lake, and target six courtyard and exterior spaces around the campus as outdoor classrooms and student gathering spaces Creation of outdoor waiting area near D-wing transit Creation of outdoor classroom space in D-courtyard 4
9 Creation of quiet meditation area in JLC courtyard Renovation of Japanese garden plantings and expanded seating in Atrium courtyard Creation of outdoor gathering space and art garden in T-wing court 7. Mill Creek watershed initiatives Implement watershed best management practices commensurate with larger watershed recommendations and priority areas Water quality assessment of Willow Lake and drainage assessment of inlet pipe from Brae Loch Golf Course Shoreline stabilization and revegetation around Willow Lake including stormwater inlet pipes 5
10 Repair of northern shore outlet weir to allow water level control Vegetation management for detention basins north of Willow Lake Create filtration basin for Lot 7 run off prior to release into Willow Lake 8. Campus landscape renovations Create intentional, cohesive landscape approach consistently throughout the campus that reflects sustainable priorities of biodiversity and low resource inputs Create approved list of primary plant species and planting strategies to guide overall landscape design Inventory trees and develop tree management and ash/invasive species replacement plan Focus on regional native species planted within habitat-appropriate guilds Group plants according to similar soil and water requirements Avoid over-used species and species on the invasive watch-list Select species which provide functional values (habitat, erosion control, etc.) beyond ornamental Limit use of cultivars and Eurasian species Provide proper maintenance including designated, trained horticultural staff No shearing 6
11 Updated plantings at main entry and Sun Pivot Circle and entry to James Lumber Center Updated plantings at CLC entry signs and key vehicular entry points (Lancer/Washington, Lancer/Brae Loch) Remove turf from medians and isolated beds; consolidate turf to recreation/outdoor gathering zones; implement organic turf management policy/practice 9. Natural areas management Implement management practices to improve biodiversity and ecological function of existing prairie, wetland and woodland zones on campus Contract invasive species control and native species overseeding for prairie and wetland zones Contract selective clearing and canopy replacement for eastern woodland 7
