2 What is a Municipal Development Plan (MDP)? The Town s highest-level planning document Sets the long-term vision and key themes for the community A comprehensive road map for the next 20- to 30- years A tool to help guide land use and development Addresses issues pertaining to community, environment, social and economic development, culture, recreation, infrastructure, governance, leisure and others Required by the Government of Alberta (S. 632 of the Alberta Municipal Government Act) Is consistent with the Capital Region Growth Plan Builds on other important Town strategies, plans and documents Provides a rationale for decision-making to achieve the Town s vision Is typically reviewed every five years

3 Environmental Responsibility We have integrated social, environmental and economic goals to reinforce environmental protection and manage our environmental footprint. Stony Plain is a compact community, with a mix of uses, supported by strong, non-vehicular networks. We have fostered and retained our connections to open spaces and agricultural land. 8 Growth Management and Land Use Plan The Capital Region Board s Growth Plan identifies Stony Plain as a Priority Growth Area, meaning the community is encouraged, and expected, to grow significantly over the next 20 years.
