Claret Wood Streetly Wood Sutton Coldfield West Midlands
CLARET WOOD This amazing seven bedroom, 6,500ft 2 prestigious property is set in one and a half acres of stunning landscaped grounds on a private gated road. Built in 1906, it boasts a wealth of period features with a contemporary twist offering a wonderful family home, perfect for entertaining, with detached leisure complex including heated pool.
Step Inside Claret Wood This grand house boasts a cosy but elegant interior. The opulent oak panelled entrance hall, with sweeping staircase, leads to a large formal reception room and two further reception rooms all with access to the beautiful rear gardens. The stone fireplace with log burner conjures images of cosy winter evenings in the panel ceilinged family room. A detached leisure complex with vaulted bar and games room/cinema room or gym and heated indoor pool with changing rooms and bathroom, has enabled the current vendors to host some wonderful parties. A perfect chill out space for children and teenagers or for you to enjoy the wonderful luxury of an evening/morning swim in your own pool with amazing landscaped views. I d say that living here has enabled us to enjoy the very best of both worlds. Streetly Village, which is just a stroll away, has a nice selection of independent shops and restaurants, and the larger supermarkets are just a short drive from here. We also benefit from excellent transport links, so it s easy to get just about anywhere.
The heart of the home is the contemporary luxury kitchen with a wonderful fusion of elegant painted storage units and granite. Smart dressers flank the breakfast room which leads seamlessly into the light and airy Orangery / Day Room with bi-fold doors opening onto the gardens and a gas log burner for chillier evenings. The orangery and kitchen are my favourites, says Margaret, and they combine to form the real hub of the home. Cooking is now an absolute pleasure, particularly when we re entertaining, because I can interact with our guests and so still feel part of the action.
Seller Insight This large and beautifully presented family home occupies a much sought after location within one of Sutton Coldfield s most exclusive residential addresses. Streetly Wood is a gated, private road that consists of just sixteen luxury properties, which all boast generous lush green plots. It is a quiet and aesthetically pleasing location, but one that is also just a stone s throw from the affluent town centre. We purchased the property twelve years ago, says Margaret, and I d say that it was without doubt the sheer beauty of the house and the immediate surroundings that sold it to us. The minute you drive through the gates of Streetly Wood it s like entering another world; it s so peaceful and picturesque that it s often hard to believe we re so close to the shops, restaurants, train station even the airport which is approximately a 10 minute drive. The house was beautifully renovated by a previous owner, so when we came here it was absolutely gorgeous throughout. However, over the years we too have made some changes here and there which we feel have enhanced the property further. We replaced one of the big bay windows with French doors, so now every one of the main living areas can be opened up to the garden; we refurbished one of the main bathrooms and outside we created a lovely patio seating area around the swimming pool. The biggest change, however, came with the addition of a really stunning orangery, which extended the huge kitchen and created much more space for dining and relaxing. The house was lovely when we came here, but it s now quite exceptional. When we moved twelve years ago, my husband was very keen to have a lovely big garden, continues Margaret, and here we have around one-and-a-half acres of the most beautifully landscaped grounds. We have open lawns, box hedging and deep flowerbeds that divide the space into lots of really interesting areas secret gardens, as I like to call them and we ve planted an avenue of cherry trees, which looks quite spectacular when in bloom. It s not only a very beautiful garden, but it s also extremely peaceful and there s an array of lovely places to sit out and relax. These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property. They have not been independently verified, should not be relied on without verification and do not necessarily reflect the views of the agent.
The swimming pool is a feature of the property that we ve really enjoyed over the years, says Margaret. It has a retractable cover, so can be opened up to the elements when the weather is warm, and adjacent to it is the boot room, which is a great space complete with bar area that s fabulous for parties. We actually have planning in place to create a link between it and the main house.
An elaborate arched leaded window throws an abundance of light into the spacious landing. There are seven double bedrooms over two floors. The master suite enjoys a personal dressing room and large en-suite bathroom. There is also a wonderful double bedroom with a personal balcony to enjoy breakfast al fresco overlooking the gardens what a perfect guest room this would make! This recently reformed contemporary family bathroom has large bath and shower.
Step Outside Claret Wood We defy anybody to not be impressed by the location and beautiful landscaped grounds of this wonderful family home. Luscious lawns wrap around the terraces with summer houses hidden in the grounds framed by a delightful woodland setting. This truly is a place to escape and enjoy the luxury lifestyle that living in a property like this affords. Claret Wood actually owns the private road, Streetly Wood that is home to 16 luxury properties. Claret Wood is such a special place, but unfortunately the property is now far too big for just my husband and I, says Margaret. We love everything about the house, the garden and the location, and we hope that the property as a whole gives as much pleasure to its new owners as it has to us.
