Precautions Safety precautions Read this operation manual carefully before installing and using this product and be sure to use the product correctly. WARNING The 966A AIR IONIZER does not incorporate explosion-proof specifications. Do not install or use it in a location or environment where flammable gases or solvents are present. There is a danger of fire or explosion. The tip of the emitter needle is sharp. Use sufficient caution when handling it. The tip can cause injury. This product must not be opened inside the unit. High voltage may cause injury or dead. Be sure to supply the clean & dried air to this device. CAUTION! Please use with optional nozzle. When cleaning the 966A housing or emitter points, verify that the unit is off and disconnected from electrical power. The 966A is designed for use in those areas using AC 100-120 V electrical service. Usage of unit with the incorrect electrical voltage could result in incorrect performance and an unsafe operating condition. If the air includes water and oil, the electrode gets dirty, the ability to remove electricity is lowered, or causing deterioration of the electrode In an abnormal condition, please contact our company because adjustment or repair by manufacture is necessary. If a condition in which no air is supplied continues, the red lamp may be lit on. Other Cautionary Statements Complete the necessary information on the enclosed warranty card (postcard), and be sure to return it to Sumitomo 3M. Failure to do so may prevent you from receiving services such as repair, replacement, and inspection. Do not disassemble the product or subject it to rough treatment or strong impacts. Malfunctions resulting from these causes are not covered by the warranty, even within the warranty period. 1
Outline This IONIZER is, as a countermeasure against static electricity, a quick-acting air-blow type IONIZER. Ion air neutralizes static electricity of charged objects immediately and effectively and removes dust to the objects by static electricity to prevent contamination. Structure and Kinds of the Ionizer This IONIZER consists of the following parts: Optional Nozzles, an electrode, a high-voltage transformer, and the body of 966A in which has warning display circuit at the time of abnormal condition. It applies high-frequency-high-voltage from the high-voltage transformer to the discharge needle inside, giving off alternating current corona discharge toward the metal cap (grounding terminal), and produces positive and negative air ion. It transfers the air ion by air. The Ion air neutralizes static of charged objects located away and removes dust stuck to the charged objects. The characteristic of this equipment is that it can transfer ion air by using the optional air tube in addition to air-blowing directly through the air nozzle. Don t touch the Air-cap and Tube and Pipe to the grounding object. Don t touch the metal frame. Installation and Wiring ALARM POWER First take off the cover cap of discharge needle. In case of blowing ion air directly form the nozzle 966AS Screw the 966AS air nozzle completely into the IONIZER body. Installation of the equipment should be arranged so that the air nozzle will be pointed to the charged object and air will be blown against it. 966ATTeflon tubein case of transferring ion air through a tube form the nozzle Screw the 966AT air nozzle completely into the IONIZER body. Install this equipment at a roomy place and lay tubes to the charged object located in a small space. Lay the tip of the tube closer to the charged object. 966AP1, 966AP3In case of transferring ion air through a pipe form the nozzle Screw the 966AP1,P3 air nozzle completely into the IONIZER body. Install this equipment at a roomy place and lay pipes to the charged object located in a small space. 4
General for Ionizer Installation At the time of installing the equipment, pay attention to stain caused by water and oil, high temperature, and humidity. and especially a very humid place with a possibility of appearance of dewdrop should be avoided. The best installation place of the electrode to remove electricity is just in front of the place where troubles are caused by static electricity. If the electrode to remove electricity is installed at the place the charged object touches or is closer to another object, the effect of removing electricity can not be obtained, so install the equipment at a place where the charged object is floating in the air. object Un-effective point Effective point ionizer Effective point Un-effective point How to Install Install it at a designated place by using installment holes (4-3.5 dia), (in case install as vertical use with optional flame while seeing it that the metal cap of the nozzle part in the electricity-removing equipment does not touch the metal frame. Supply DC24V to the power source connector of the equipment. A power and signal cable is attached. An adapter of input AC 100V is Option. In case supply the DC power, make sure that attach the Air cap. Layout of Air Install the air hose Outside diameter 6mm at the air-inhaling part of the equipment. Extend the air hose to the air source (Air compressor, Blower ) through the pressure adjuster. Supply pure air (air which does not include water and oil) to the electrode. 5
Operation 1. Install the equipment at a designated place, and conduct power source wiring, grounding wiring, and air laying.) 2. Supply DC24V through the power source connector of the equipment. The power source of high voltage starts and corona discharge is generated at the discharge electrode, producing air ion. When the power source is supplied, the green LED (in the normal condition) is lit on. 3. Open the main valve of air equipment (installed by your company), and supply air to the nozzle with designated pressure after adjusting the pressure adjuster. Ion air is blown out from the nozzle and static electricity of the charged object placed in the air-flow is neutralized and removed. Pay attention to excessive air pressure, which will lower the effect of removing electricity. Use it below the upper limit. 4. When you attach the tube to the nozzle, move the tip of the tube closer to the charged object and blow ion air. 5. Abnormal Warning Display (red light of LED ----- bad condition of removing Electricity Abnormal Warning Display (at the time when LED red light is on.) is installed in this equipment so that the abnormal condition will be cleared away immediately. The possible typical causes for the lighting of red lamp are as follows: Lowered high-voltage output Loosened metal cap (incomplete tightening), condition of touching the grounding belt. Dirt or dust sticking to the electrode, creating a condition similar to a short circuit between the discharge needle and the earth.). 6. Structure of Abnormal Output Circuit (Open Collector) Clear of Abnormal Condition :red LED light When the LED is lit on, carry it out after supply of input power source is stopped. Check the metal cap or Pipe or Tube does not touch the ground. Object. Check the looseness of the metal cap Remove the metal cap, clean up the insulating part of the body grounded discharge needle with isopropyl alcohol, and attach the metal cap. 7. Maintainance Since the insulator, which is a part of the electrode of removing electricity, gradually becomes deteriorated with exposure to alternating high-voltage electric field, it is necessary to regard it as an expendable supply. The expected life span is thought to be 10,000 hours even if sufficient maintenance is conducted, and replacement is recommended. If the maintenance is not sufficient, its life span will be shorter. The maintenance is very important. This equipment is supposed to be placed at a place where it is free from water and oil, etc...if it were splashed with water, oil, or paint, wipe it out with waste or cloth. A special attention is necessary for the high-voltage Clean-up of the Discharge Needle and Its Surrounding Area. The dirty tip of the discharge needle lowers the ability to remove electricity. When the effect of removing electricity is declining, clean it up with a nylon brush. (Do not use a wire brush.) Revolve the metal cap of the nozzle and take it away from the pipe body, and clean up the discharge needle and its surrounding area inside the pipe with waste or a brush. After the cleanup, put the metal cap back firmly. Make sure the polarity of DC power as +(Positive) and (Negative). In case DC power of 966A turn on after within one second as turned off, the alarm signal send out. To keep over one second without mis-signal send out. When the air will not be supplied, also the DC power must be turned off. It makes same damage by OZON in side nozzles. Trouble Shooting In Case Of Dying Out Of Removing Electricity In case of no lighting of the LED red or the green lamp. *Check normal supply of DC 24V of the input power source. In case of lighting of the LED red lamp. *See the above-mentioned Clear of Abnormal Condition. The technical information given in this manual is based on testing carried out by Sumitomo 3M.
