Clearing jams Jam error messages appear on the display and include the area of the printer where the jam occurred. When there is more than one jam, the numer of jammed pages is displayed. Avoiding jams The following hints can help you avoid jams: Paper tray recommendations Make sure the paper lies flat in the tray. Do not remove a tray while the printer is printing. Do not load a tray while the printer is printing. Load it prior to printing, or wait for a prompt to load it. Do not load too much paper. Make sure the stack height does not exceed the indicated maximum height. Make sure the guides in the tray or the multipurpose feeder are properly positioned and are not pressing too tightly against the paper or envelopes. Push the tray in firmly after loading paper. Paper recommendations Use only recommended paper or specialty media. Do not load wrinkled, creased, damp, ent, or curled paper. Flex, fan, and straighten paper efore loading it. Do not use paper that has een cut or trimmed y hand. Do not mix paper sizes, weights, or types in the same stack. Make sure all sizes and types are set correctly in the printer control panel menus. Store paper per the manufacturer's recommendations. Accessing jam areas When a jam occurs, a message indicating the jam location appears on the display. Open doors and covers and remove trays to access jam locations. To resolve any paper jam message, you must clear all jammed paper from the paper path and then press.lexmark Lex148

Note: Make sure all paper fragments are removed.

Remove each photoconductor unit, and place it on a flat surface. 1 2 c Remove the jammed paper, and then replace each photoconductor unit. 4 Close the front door. 5 Press. 202 paper jam If the paper is visile in the standard exit in, then grasp the paper and pull it away from the in.

To reduce the risk of injury from a hot component, allow the surface to cool efore touching. 2 Grasp the jammed paper on each side and pull it towards you. 3 Close the top cover, and then close the front door. 4 Press. To reduce the risk of injury from a hot component, allow the surface to cool efore touching. 2 If the paper is jammed ehind the fuser, then you will need to remove the fuser unit. Warning Potential Damage: Do not touch the center of the fuser unit. Doing so may cause your fingers to touch the roller underneath the fuser unit. Touching the fuser roller will damage the fuser. a Turn the screws on the fuser unit to the left to loosen them.
Clearing jams 152 Lift the handholds on each side of the fuser unit, and then pull forward to remove it. c Place the fuser unit on a flat surface. 3 Pull the paper gently out of the printer or up toward the standard exit in to remove it. 4 Reinstall the fuser unit. a Align the fuser unit using the handholds on each side, and place it ack into the printer. Turn the screws to the right to fasten the fuser unit securely. 5 Close the top cover, and then close the front door. 6 Press.

CAUTION HOT SURFACE: The inside of the printer might e hot. To reduce the risk of injury from a hot component, allow the surface to cool efore touching. Grasp the paper on each side, and pull it out gently. c Close the top cover, and then close the front door. 3 If the jam is etween the front door and Tray 1: a Remove Tray 1. Open the front door. Warning Potential Damage: To avoid overexposing the photoconductors, do not leave the front door open longer than 10 minutes.
Clearing jams 154 c Pull straight up to remove the jammed paper. d Pull out on the release tas to allow the front door to split. e Pull straight out to remove any jammed paper. f Close the front door. g Reinsert Tray 1. 4 Press.
