Energy Saving Ideas The freezer shuld be lcated in the clest area f the rm, away frm heat prducing appliances r heating ducts, and ut f direct sunlight. Be sure t wrap fds prperly and wipe cntainers dry befre placing them in the freezer. This cuts dwn n frst build-up inside the freezer. Freezer shelves and baskets shuld nt be lined with aluminum fil, wax paper, r paper tweling. Liners interfere with cld air circulatin, making the freezer less efficient. Leave shelves in place s children may nt easily climb inside. pr_ Avid fire hazard r electric shck. D nt use an extensin crd r an adapter plug. D nt remve any prng frm pwer crd. Grunding type wall receptacle D nt under any circumstances cut, remve, r bypass the grunding prng I frm this plug. J Read all instructins befre using this freezer. Child Safety Destry cartn, plastic bags, and any exterir wrapping material immediately after the freezer is unpacked. Children shuld never use these items fr play. Cartns cvered with rugs, bedspreads, plastic sheets r stretch wrap may becme airtight chambers and can quickly cause suffcatin. A child might suffcate if he crawls int a freezer t hide r play. Electrical Infrmatin These guidelines must be fllwed t ensure that safety mechanisms in the design f this freezer will perate prperly. Refer t the serial plate fr crrect electrical rating. The pwer crd f the appliance is equipped with a three-prng grunding plug fr prtectin against shck hazards. It must be plugged directly int its wn prperly grunded three-prng receptacle, prtected with a 15 amp time delay fuse r circuit breaker. The receptacle must be installed in accrdance with the lcal cdes and rdinances. Cnsult a qualified electrician. Receptacles prtected by Grund Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) are NOT RECOMMENDED. DO NOT use an extensin crd r adapter plug. If vltage varies by 10 percent r mre, freezer perfrmance may be affected. Operating the freezer with insufficient pwer can damage the mtr. Such damage is nt cvered under the warranty. If yu suspect yur husehld vltage is high r lw, cnsult yur pwer cmpany fr testing. T prevent the freezer frm being turned ff accidentally, d nt plug unit int an utlet cntrlled by a wall switch r pull crd. D nt pinch, knt, r bend pwer crd in any manner. Other Precautins T defrst freezer, always unplug unit first. Never unplug the freezer by pulling n the pwer crd. Always grip the plug firmly and pull straight ut frm the receptacle. Turning the cntrl t OFF turns ff the cmpressr, but des nt discnnect pwer t ther electrical cmpnents. Pwer supply crd with 3-prng grunding plug 3

First Steps Befre starting the freezer, fllw these imprtant first steps: installatin Chse a place that is near a grunded electrical utlet. The freezer shuld be lcated where surrunding temperatures will nt exceed 110 F (43 C). Temperatures f 32 F (0 C) and belw will NOT affect freezer peratin. Additinal cmpressr heaters are nt recmmended. Allw space arund the unit fr gd air circulatin. Leave a 4 inch (101.6 mm) space n all sides f the freezer fr adequate circulatin. Leveling Leg Leveling (Sme mdels) The freezer must have all bttm crners resting firmly n a slid flr. The flr must be strng enugh t supprt a fully laded freezer. NOTE: It is VERY IM- PORTANT fr yur freezer t be level in rder t functin prperly. If the freezer is nt leveled during installatiin, the dr may be misaligned and nt clse r seal prperly, causing cling, frst, r misture prblems. Cleaning Wash any remvable parts, the freezer interir, and exterir with mild detergent and warm water. Wipe dry. DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS ON THESE SURFACES.. D nt use razr blades r ther sharp instruments, which can scratch the appliance surface when remving adhesive labels. Any glue left frm the tape can be remved with a mixture f warm water and mild detergent, r tuch the residue with the sticky side f tape already remved. DO NOT REMOVE THE SERIAL PLATE. Setting the Temperature Cntrl Cld Cntrl Cl Dwn Perid Fr safe fd strage, allw 4 hurs fr freezer t cl dwn cmpletely. The freezer will run cntinuusly fr the first several hurs. Fds that are already frzen may be placed in freezer after the first few hurs f peratin. Unfrzen fds shuld NOT be laded int freezer until freezer has perated fr 4 hurs. When lading freezer, freeze nly 3 punds f fresh fd per cubic ft f freezer space at ne time. Distribute packages t be frzen evenly thrughut the freezer. It is nt necessary t turn cntrl knb t a clder setting while freezing fd. Temperature Cntrl The temperature cntrl is lcated inside the freezer n upright mdels, and n the frnt utside wall n chest mdels. The temperature is factry preset t prvide satisfactry fd strage temperatures. Hwever, the temperature cntrl is adjustable t prvide a range f temperatures fr yur persnal satisfactin. If a clder temperature is desired, turn the temperature cntrl knb tward COLDEST and allw several hurs fr temperatures t stabilize between adjustments. Freezer Features Optinal Security Lck with Pp=Out Key (Sme mdels) This security lck fastens the dr snugly, ensuring that stred fd is secure. T lck r unlck the freezer, push the key int the lck and turn. The key pps ut f the lck after it has been turned. Defrst Drain The defrst drain prvides a methd f draining the water during defrsting and cleaning. See "Defrsting" in Care and Cleaning Sectin. Pwer On Light The Pwer On Light indicates that the freezer is prperly cnnected t electrical pwer.the light glws even when the temperature cntrl is turned t OFF. If the light ges ut, refer t "Freezer des nt run" in the Avid Service Checklist. 4

Care and Cleaning Damp bjects stick t cld metal surfaces. D nt tuch interir metal surfaces with wet r damp hands. Between Defrstings T avid frequent defrsting, ccasinally use a plastic scraper t remve frst. Scrape with a pulling mtin. Never use a metal instrument t remve frst. CAUTION Freezer must be unplugged (t avid electrical hazard) frm pwer surce when defrsting unit. Defrsting It is imprtant t defrst and clean freezer when ¼ t ½ inch f frst has accumulated. Frst may tend t accumulate faster n upper part f the freezer due t warm, mist air entering the freezer when the dr is pened. Remve fd and leave the dr pen when defrsting the freezer. If the frst is sft, remve it by using a plastic scraper. If the frst is glazed and hard, fill deep pans with ht water and place them n the freezer bttm. Clse the freezer dr. Frst shuld sften in abut 15 minutes. Repeat this prcedure if necessary. Cleaning the inside After defrsting, wash inside surfaces f the freezer with a slutin f tw tablespns f baking sda in ne quart (1.136 liters) warm water. Rinse and dry. Wring excess water ut f the spnge r clth when cleaning in the area f the cntrls, r any electrical parts. Wash the remvable parts with the baking sda slutin mentined abve, r mild detergent and warm water. Rinse and dry. Never use metallic scuring pads, brushes, abrasive cleaners, r alkaline slutins n any surface. D nt wash remvable parts in a dishwasher. Cleaning the Outside Wash the cabinet with warm water and mild liquid detergent. Rinse well and wipe dry with a clean sft clth. Replace parts and fd. Vacatin and Mving Tips Shrt Vacatins: Leave the freezer perating during vacatins f less than three weeks. Lng Vacatins: If the freezer will nt be used fr several mnths, remve all fd and unplug the pwer crd. Clean and dry the interir thrughly. T prevent dr and mld grwth, leave the freezer dr pen slightly, blcking it pen if necessary. Mving: Discnnect the pwer crd plug frm the wall utlet. Remve fds, then defrst, and clean the freezer. Secure all lse items such as base panel, baskets, and shelves by taping them securely in place t prevent damage. In the mving vehicle, secure freezer in an upright psitin, and secure t prevent mvement. Als prtect utside f freezer with a blanket, r similar item. 5

Pwer FailurelFreezer Failure WARNING If leaving freezer dr pen while n vacatin, make certain that children cannt get int the freezer and becme entrapped. D nt pen freezer dr unnecessarily if freezer NOTEis ff fr several hurs. 1 If a pwer failure ccurs, frzen fds will stay frzen fr at least 24 hurs if the freezer is kept clsed. If the pwer failure cntinues, pack seven r eight punds f dry ice int the freezer every 24 hurs. Lk in the Yellw Pages under "Dry Ice," "Dairies," r "Ice Cream Manufacturers" fr lcal dry ice suppliers. Always wear glves and use cautin when handling dry ice. If the freezer has stpped perating, see "Freezer des nt run" in the Avid Service Checklist Sectin f this manual. If yu cannt slve the prblem, call an authrized servicer immediately. If the freezer remains ff fr several hurs, fllw the directins abve fr the use f dry ice during a pwer failure. If necessary, take the fd t a lcal lcker plant until the freezer is ready t perate. Lk inthe Yellw Pages under"frzen Fd Lcker Plants." 6

Avid Service Checklist Befre calling fr service, review this list. It may save yu bth time and expense. This list includes cmmn ccurrences that are nt the result f defective wrkmanship r materials in this appliance. OCCURRENCE SOLUTION Freezer des nt run Check t ensure that freezer is nt plugged int a circuit that has grund fault interrupt. If yu are unsure abut the utlet, have it checked by a certified technician. Temperature cntrl is in the OFF psitin. See Setting the Temperature Cntrl sectin. Freezer may nt be plugged in r plug may be lse. Be sure plug is tightly pushed int electrical utlet. Huse fuse has blwn r circuit breaker has tripped. Check / reset circuit breaker r replace fuse with 15 amp time delay fuse. Pwer utage. Check huse lights. Call lcal electric cmpany. Freezer runs t much r t lng Rm r utside weather is t ht. It is nrmal fr the freezer t wrk harder under these cnditins. Freezer has recently been discnnected fr a perid f time. Freezer requires 4 hurs t cl dwn cmpletely. Large amunts f warm water r ht fd have been stred recently, Warm fd will cause the freezer t run mre until the desired temperature is reached. Dr is kept pen t lng r t frequently, Warm air enters the freezer every time the dr is pened. Open the dr less ften. Freezer dr may be slightly pen. See OCCURRENCE "Dr Prblems" Temperature cntrl is set t cld. Turn the cntrl knb t a warmer setting. Allw several hurs fr the temperature t stabilize. Freezer gasket is dirty, wrn, cracked, r prly fitted. Clean r change gasket. Leaks in the dr seal will cause freezer t run lnger in rder t maintain desired temperature. Temperature inside freezer is t Temperature cntrl is set t cld. Turn the cntrl t a warmer cld setting. Allw several hurs fr the temperature t stabilize. Temperature inside freezer is t wa rm Temperature f external freezer surface is warm Temperature cntrl is set t warm. Turn the cntrl t a clder setting. Allw several hurs fr the temperature t stabilize. Dr is kept pen t lng r t frequently. Warm air enters the freezer every time the dr is pened. Open the dr less ften. Freezer dr may be slightly pen. See OCCURRENCE "Dr Prblems" Large amunts f warm water r ht fd have been stred recently. Wait until the freezer has had a chance t reach its selected temperature. Freezer has recently been discnnected fr a perid f time. Freezer requires 4 hurs t cl dwn cmpletely. The exterir freezer walls can be as much as 30 F warmer than rm temperature. This is nrmal while the cmpressr wrks t transfer heat frm inside the freezer cabinet. 7

They require a high efficiency cmpressr. When the surrunding nise level is lw, yu might hear the cmpressr running while it cls the interir. Clean interir with spnge, warm water and baking sda. Fds with strng drs are in the freezer. Cver the fd tightly. Freezer is nt level. It rcks n the flr when it is mved slightly. This cnditin can frce the cabinet ut f square and misalign the dr. Refer t "Leveling" in the First Steps sectin. Flr is uneven r weak. Freezer rcks n the flr when it is mved slightly. Be sure flr can adequately supprt freezer. Level the freezer by putting wd r metal shims under the freezer r brace the flr supprting the freezer. Pwer Available Light is nt n LED may be burned ut.
