` 1. Introduction 1.1. Feed Whiz Introduction to the Horse or Animal Introduce the horse or animal to the Feed Whiz automatic feeder device as you would any other piece of equipment or apparatus that is new or foreign. e.g. Saddle or transport float/trailer. Dependent upon the animal s normal reaction to things new and foreign, formulate a strategy to familiarise the animal with the new piece of equipment. This is ESSENTIAL and more so if the Feed Whiz device is introduced to the animal in the confines of a stable or box. Some suggestions to assist with the familiarisation process include: 1) Introduce the Feed Whiz device in a small yard where the animal can observe it from a distance that it is comfortable with. 2) Lead the animal, if halter broken, up to the Feed Whiz device with a reassuring voice and manner to introduce it to the feeder in both the open and closed positions. Then progress to manually show the animal the lid moving from closed to open positions. Finally by actuating the manual release with the lid in the closed position, allow the lid to open as it will when the feeder is set in automatic mode. 3) Once the animal is accustomed to the Feed Whiz device s presence in the stable, yard or paddock environment, place feed in the bin and leave it in the open position to allow the animal to connect the enjoyment of feed with the new Feed Whiz automatic feeder. 4) Ensure the animal has accepted the presence and function of the new feeding equipment before using it in the automatic mode. This familiarisation may take minutes or days, depending on the nervous disposition of the animal and its reaction to things new in its environment. KNOW YOUR HORSE and take the required time to familiarise the animal with the Feed Whiz automatic feeder as it is a new piece of equipment to the animal. 1.2. Disclaimer The user assumes all responsibility and risk for using the Feed Whiz device. HorsePro shall not be responsible for or incur any liability for any consequential economic loss or damage arising from the non-performance or faulty performance of the Feed Whiz device. Liability is confined to physical loss or damage. 1.3. Warranty The Feed Whiz automatic feeder device is sold with a 12 month return to base warranty on the electronic and release mechanism components only. This warranty does not extend to damage occasioned to the Feed Whiz device by abnormal external forces. This includes heavy animal contact and or blows to the device, mishandling of the device and immersion in water or a similarly invasive substance to the device. HorsePro 2012 Page 2

2. Timer Operating Instructions 2.1. Activate the Timer To activate the timer and switch on the display, firstly remove the basin from the Feed Whiz device to expose the control panel. Then PRESS any of the keys on the timer keypad and the timer will wake-up and switch on the display. If there are feed times set and stored in the timer, the initial display information will be HORSEPRO then FEED WHIZ then FEED1, FEED2,(up to a maximum of FEED4 ). The scrolling display will then show the Current Day and Time setting before returning to FEED1. This allows the Feed Times that have been set and the Current Day and Time settings to be viewed. If there are no feeds set and stored in the timer then the initial display information will be HORSEPRO 2012 then the User Agreement is scrolled before Agree then ENTER appears on the display. At this point the User must PRESS ENTER on the keypad to proceed. Then NO FEEDS SET appears, followed by the messages TO SETUP FEEDS then PRESS DAY HOUR MIN and finally the current Day and Time settings scrolls on the display before returning to NO FEEDS SET. Either of the two above display options will remain on the display for approx 40 seconds. After 40 seconds where an existing Feed Time has been set, if no key has been PRESSED to change the clock and or add/edit a feed time, the display switches off. Alternatively if the ENTER key is not PRESSED within 40 seconds after the User Agreement scrolls, the display switches off. When the display switches off and the Timer effectively goes to sleep to conserve power, it can simply be activated to wake-up again by PRESSING any key as previously described. 2.2. Setting the Day and Time You only have to set the current Day and Time if the display is not correct. (Note the Time is displayed in the 12 hour AM or PM format) To set the current Day and Time PRESS the CLOCK key and then the DAY, HOUR and MIN keys as required advancing each to the current Day and Time setting required. When the correct current Day and Time setting has been displayed PRESS the ENTER key to store this setting. NOTE: The Day setting options are abbreviated and displayed as follows. > Su = Sunday > Th = Thursday > Mo = Monday > Fr = Friday > Tu = Tuesday > Sa = Saturday > We = Wednesday > Ev = Everyday HorsePro 2012 Page 3

2.3. Setting a Feed Time Activate the Timer to switch on the display by PRESSING any key on the keypad. As described in 2.1 the display is now switched on and commences to scroll through one of two routines, depending upon whether there are Feed Time/s programmed and stored in the Timer, or there are NO FEEDS SET. To Set a new Feed Time simply wait until the current Day and Time is displayed during either of the two wake-up scroll routines and then PRESS the DAY, HOUR and MIN keys to advance the settings to the new Feed Time required. When this is done PRESS the ENTER key to store the new Feed Time. The Timer will then display the REPEAT? option. Where the default option is NO this can be simply selected by PRESSING the ENTER key. This will mean that the new Feed Time stored in the Timer will be used once only and then cleared from the Timer s memory, as the REPEAT? NO option was selected. To select the REPEAT? YES option simply PRESS any key other than ENTER key when the default REPEAT? NO option is displayed and this will alternate the NO option to a YES option, When the REPEAT? YES option is then displayed, PRESS the ENTER key to store the new Feed Time in the Timer s memory for future routine feeding at this day and time. The process for setting up additional new Feed Times is to simply repeat the above steps when the current Day and Time is displayed in the scroll routine and the Timer will automatically assign an available FEED# (Feed Number) to the next additional Feed Time that is set. A maximum of four Feed Times can be programmed and stored into the timer. The Ev (everyday) Day option is stored as one Feed Time. 2.4. Clearing a Feed Time Activate the Timer to switch on the display by PRESSING any key on the keypad as detailed in 2.1. After one of the initial routines has been displayed the display commences to scroll through the FEED# set and then the current DAY and TIME setting. To clear a Feed Time from the Timer s memory, simply PRESS the CLEAR key when the Feed Time to be cleared is on the display. The Timer will then display a CLEAR FEED#? YES message as the default option which is then simply confirmed by PRESSING the ENTER key. To change the default option CLEAR FEED#? YES message to the NO option, simply PRESS any key other than the ENTER key and this will alternate the YES option to the NO option. Then PRESS the ENTER key. 2.5. Changing a Feed Time Activate the Timer as in 2.1 and the routine scroll off FEED# set will appear on the display. To change the settings of a Feed Time stored in the Timer s memory, simply wait until the Feed Time to be changed appears on the display and then PRESS the DAY, HOUR and MIN keys as required to advance them to the new settings required HorsePro 2012 Page 4

for the changed Feed Time and then PRESS the ENTER key to store the new Feed Time settings in the Timers memory. 2.6. Timer & Release Mechanism Test Activate the Timer as in 2.1 and the routine message scroll will appear on the display. When the current DAY and TIME settings appear simply PRESS the MIN key to advance the setting forward by 1 minute and then PRESS the ENTER key. The REPEAT? NO option will then be displayed. PRESS the ENTER key to select the NO option and close the Feeder Lid immediately. The audio beep that precedes the Lid Release will sound between 1 and 59 seconds later. (This time lapse interval depends on the position of the Timer s seconds clock when the Test Feed Time is set at 1 minute in advance of the present time.) At the end of the audio beep the lid will release and rotate to the open position. NOTE: there needs to be one of the four Feed Time positions available to store this Timer Self Test Feed Time. 2.7. Low Battery A LOW BATTERY message appears on the display in the event that the battery voltage falls to a level that requires the eight AA batteries to be replaced. This message appears after either of the initial display routines HORSEPRO then FEED WHIZ or HORSEPRO 2012 then the User Agreement has been displayed. To check the battery status of the Timer then simply PRESS any key and wait for the HORSEPRO then FEED WHIZ or HORSEPRO 2012 then User Agreement message to appear. If the batteries are low and require replacement then the LOW BATTERY message will appear next. If the battery voltage level is OK, then the normal routine described in 2.1 Activate the Timer will be displayed. To replace the batteries, remove the two screws securing the Face Plate covering the battery compartment and remove the battery holder. The battery holder and the snap connector can be decoupled to free the battery holder from the battery compartment. Replace the batteries ensuring that they are correctly inserted with the + and battery ends aligned as indicated on the battery holder. NOTE that it is important that a complete set of eight new AA alkaline batteries are used. Do not replace with a mixture of new and used batteries. If the battery holder has been disconnected from the snap connector, care must be taken to reconnect the + and terminals correctly. 2.8 Resetting the Timer In the event the step by step logic menu displayed on the LCD screen is disrupted by any inappropriate series of keypad entry(s), then simply remove the battery compartment Face Plate and disconnect the battery snap connector from the battery holder. This will power down the Timer unit. Allow 30 seconds and then carefully reconnect the battery snap connector to the battery pack as in 2.7 and replace the Face Plate cover. The Timer has now been cleared and reset and can be reprogrammed following instructions from 2.1 Activate the Timer. HorsePro 2012 Page 5

3. Loading and Setting Instructions 3.1. Unlatching and Closing the Lid The lid needs to be unlatched from the latched open position. To unlatch the lid simply rotate forward a Camlock located on either side at the top rear of the unit. This will enable the lower part of the Camlock to become free from the latching notch moulded into the lid. Rotate the lid upwards and rearwards towards the closed position. When the lid is nearing the closed position the User should apply adequate positive force as it engages with the upper part of the Camlock. This will ensure sufficient force is provided to the internal latching mechanism to latch and secure the lid in the closed position. 3.2. Manual Release Instructions A manual lid release lever is located at the rear right underside of the unit. This is actuated by moving the lever forward. The internal latching mechanism is then released and the upper part of the Camlock rotates from the lids latching notch. This allows the lid to rotate forward to the open position. It is IMPORTANT to ensure that the hand used to actuate the manual lid release lever has been removed prior to the lid rotating to the open position. Contact with hands MUST be avoided! Control of the lid, as it rotates into the open position, along with the timely removal of the hand, is required to avoid any contact. This will occur in the proximity where the opening lid approaches and passes the lid release lever, if the hand is not removed. TAKE NOTICE of the warning sticker illustrated below on the right side Camlock. When unlatching and closing the lid as in 3.1 above, the Camlock may be unintentionally over rotated when freeing its lower part from the open lid notch. This will put the Camlock in the latched closed position. This then prevents the lid s closed latching notch from engaging the Camlock correctly when being closed. To remedy simply actuate the manual lid release lever. This allows the Camlock to rotate rearward and assume the position where it is able to engage the closing lid s latching notch correctly. 4. Mounting the Feed Whiz Unit 4.1. Positioning the Unit The Feed Whiz unit can be mounted along fence or yard rails, across a yard corner or through two keyhole slots in a stable wall as illustrated below. Fig 1 Fig 2 4.2 Adjusting the Mounting Hangers Remove the feed basin from the Feed Whiz unit to access the socket head adjustment screws as shown in Fig 3. Undo these socket headed screws, enabling the mounting hangers that are positioned inside the metal frame side members to slide allowing adjustment. There are a series of 7 adjustment holes in the mounting hangers at spacing of 15mm into which the socket headed screw is located locking each mounting hanger into position. Adjust the mounting hangers evenly to approximately the width of the surface the Feed Whiz unit is to be mounted on. Fig 3 HorsePro 2012 Page 7

4.2. Adjusting the Locking Set Screws Position the Feed Whiz unit with the mounting hangers over the mounting surface and with the lid in the locked open position and the basin removed. Access the locking set screws and adjust with finger pressure only until tight. Helpful Hint: By lifting the front of the Feed Whiz unit slightly while it rests on the mounting hangers, means it takes the weight off the locking set screws and makes them very easy to adjust with finger pressure only. When the locking set screws have been adjusted lower the front of the unit which then sees the locking set screws and mounting hangers clamping tightly onto the mounting surface. Similarly, when demounting the unit lifting the front will enable the locking set screws to be easily wound out. 4.3. Applying the Security Strap Prior to positioning the Feed Whiz unit on the mounting rail, unscrew the holding screw along the back of the mechanism housing. Allow the security strap to hang from the locking set screw and then position the unit over the mounting rail and apply the extended shackle padlock. Use the uppermost hole in the security strap that provides a snug fit under the mounting rail as shown in Fig 4. Fig 4 4.4 Adjusting the Lid s Controlled Opening The lids controlled opening when released from the closed position, is primarily governed by the pair of tension spring attached inside each end of the lid. The purpose of these springs is to decelerate the lids rotating and falling motion as it opens, with the lid only having sufficient momentum when it arrives at the open position to latch into the lower part of the Camlock. With the passage of time these springs may need to be adjusted. To adjust simply remove the feed basin to expose the springs, loosen the locking nuts on the threaded adjustment rods and adjust both springs equally. Test manually using the Lid Release Lever as in 3.2. Adjustment completed, re-tighten the locking nuts. HorsePro 2012 Page 8

5. Accessories for the Feed Whiz 5.1. Corner Mounting Console The corner console provides a bumper bar type protection for the Feed Whiz unit. This is useful in the stable and small yard environment protecting the unit from accidental damaging contact by the animal. The corner mounting console may be coach screwed or bolted to the yard or stable corner, through the 10mm holes provided in the console frame. The Feed Whiz unit is then placed in the corner console, with the mounting hangers positioned to the second adjustment hole and locked with the socket head screws. Helpful Hint: When lifting the Feed Whiz unit into or out off the corner console, have the unit in the locked open position with the feed basin removed to provide plenty of hand lifting points on the unit s metal frame.
