Reason for corona/arcing/tracking is: Dust/pollution contamination sticks over insulators Moisture in foggy weather Salt contamination in costal region RTV coating increases the hydrophobicity of insulators to best possible extent. Hence, dust particles and moisture will not stick to insulators results in increasing electrical performance. Life of RTV coating once done is >25 years No cleaning of insulators is required after RTV coating
