Bargain Booze launches cheeky take on Aldi adverts New chairman for Booker Booker announced on 17 June the appointment of former Muller Dairies boss, Stewart Gilliland as its new nonexecutive chairman. Stewart will succeed Richard Rose who, as previously announced, is stepping down at the conclusion of the AGM to be held on 8 July 2015. Bargain Booze has launched a cheeky advertising campaign reversing the successful series of Aldi price comparison adverts as the off-licence chain matches the price of Carslberg Export and Smirnoff vodka with the discounter s own-label products. Full-page adverts in The Sun and regional titles Liverpool Echo and Manchester Evening New showed the prices of the two drinks brands compared with Aldi under the heading Aldi Shmaldi. The appointment of Stewart, follows a thorough selection process by Nomination Committee of the Board, led by Lord Bilimoria, senior independent director, senior independent director. http://www.wholesalenews.co.uk/news/fullstory.php/aid/7065/new_c hairman_for_booker.html http://www.thegrocer.co.uk/stores/marketing/bargain-booze-launchescheeky-take-on-aldi-adverts/520113.article

SWA Conference: Wholesales must evolve Scotland s wholesalers must adapt the way they do business to keep apace with ever-changing and evolving trends in the marketplace. That was one of the key messages from Asim Sarwar, president of the Scottish Wholesale Association (SWA), in his opening presentation at the trade body s annual conference at Crieff last weekend (June 12-14). Addressing an audience of industry leaders from across Scotland and the UK, Sarwar said In any business and, indeed, any trade association progress cannot come without evolution. It s about understanding what our member s customers want whether they are retailers, caterers or other hospitality providers. We need to do much, much more to understand our customers, he continued. We can do that by working more closely with our suppliers and indeed there are many great examples of where this is already happening.
