Page 16 TRAPEZOID TWISTED BEAM ========================= JUST FOR CIP CLEANING The trapezoid twisted beam is designed for the special demand of CIP cleaning. The two twisted blades are easy to clean by a sprayball. The flowpattern is similar to a trapezoid beam.
Page 17 Disc and Dissolverdisc ================== The Disc agitating element consists of a round surface with multiple ( usually six ) radially located rectangular blades. The disc sucks in axial directions upwards and downwards and ejects the product radially. The disc has a very high energy density. It is very useful for emulsification purpose The DISSOLVER DISC is a disc with a high number of radially located surfaces, that generate a high degree of shearstress to to product. It has a mechanical grinding effects. The Dissolver disc is called SAW DISC too.
Page 18 ANCHOR AGITATING ELEMENTS ============================= The ANCHOR is the typical agitating element for heattransfer. Due to the tangential flow direction it pushes the product to the vesselwall. The diameter of the ANCHOR is usually 0.9 to 0.95 * the vessel diameter. Sometimes the ANCHOR will be used as SCRAPPER to remove the product mechanical from the vessel-wall The Anchor Type NA is special designed for the processing vessels in the Dairy industry. The S- shape of the blade provides more mixing effect. This agitating element is mounted off centre. It will usually operate by frequency inverter for variable speed. Due to its shape this agitating element creates low shearstress and is easy to clean by CIP.
Page 19 SEALS ====== Seals have the job of separating areas with different pressures, materials or temperatures. In addition, they are used to prevent the intrusion of foreign material or the leakage of lubricants in the housing. The Dr. Stelzer Consulting line includes the following seals: Oil Seal Ring / Lipseal This seal is installed at the mounting plate of the agitator to prevent the intrusion of foreign Substance into the medium at atmospheric conditions Double Lipseals, type EL-SI-RI This seal serves the same function as the above oil seal. They are employed in agitators which are connected with the tank via elastic parts. Stuffingbox packing These seals serve to seal the cylinder surfaces which move against each other, against fluids and gases. The stuff box packing consists of a stationary cylinder tube, the cylinder material, the actual packing, and the gland, which is screwed to the housing and adjustable. Tightening the gland causes a crosssectionaltransformation of the packing rings and presses the packing rings against the cylindrical sealing surface. These packings are intended for relatively low sliding speeds with suitable materials, although at high temperatures. However, in general have a certain amount of leakage. The advantage of this type of sealant is that the replacement of sealing elements at the installed agitator is easy to do without dismounting of the agitator.. The different types of stuffingbox packings are STB-L, STB-S, STB-D, and STB-L-SD. See also the descriptions of individual models. Mechanical Seals For The different types of mechanical seals see page 23
Page 20 Oil Seal Ring / Lipseal ======================== Double Lipseal type EL-SI-RI ======================= The Double Lipseal EL-SI-RI was invented by Dr. Stelzer Consulting. This seal rotates with the shaft and seals by two lips against a polished stainless steel plate. By this rotating a self cleaning effect is given. This type will be used at atmospheric conditions special in the food industry. The elastic material accepts temperatures up to 130 C. The design can operate for large shaft deviations
Page 21 EL-SI-RI and Drippan ================== The below drawing shows a combination of Double Lipseal type EL-SI-RI and a Drippan for an agitator type TDA...H. The drippan is direct screwed to the gearhollowshaft using a flatseal. This combination gives a unique protection against oil-leak of the gear. There is no special geardesign necessary. The contactless drippan sealing operates wearless. In case of leaking the oil runs via the leakage channel easy to check.

Page 23 MECHANICAL SEALS ==================== Mechanical seals consist of a rotating ring connected to the shaft and a counter ring connected to The housing. Sealing occurs via the surfaces of the two rings pressed against each other. The ring and counter ring are sealed with respect to the shaft or housing via stationary sealing elements, normally O-rings or wedge rings. The sliding surfaces of the rings normally need to be lubricated, either by the product or by a special buffer liquid between two mechanical seals, an arrangement know as double-acting mechanical seal. A double acting mechanical seal needs a bufferliquidsystem, this can be a pressureless quenchsystem or a pressurized TS system shown below The double acting mechanical seal can be realized in different arrangement :back to back, tandem or what is unusual face to face. The connecting of the quench/ TS System should be acc. API (American Petroleum Institute)
Page 24 Single acting Mechanical Seal ============================ Single acting with metal bellows Type CRANE 1515 For side entry agitator in food and pharmaceutical industry The mechanical seal Crane 515 is a cartridge unit without any small gap or screws inside the vessel. The metal bellows have a smooth easy to clean surface, very suitable for food- or pharmaceutical industries. On the atmospheric side is additional a lipseal and a leakage channel for a clear drainage
Page 25 Double acting mechanical seal CRANE With Bearing Double acting mechanical seal for ultra clean vessels This mechanical Seal is designed for high sterile applications As bufferliquid a sterile steam can be used without any TS System. The steam condensed in the mechanical seal. There is not any flatseal between vessel flange and agitator. The flange of the mechanical seal will be used as agitator flange

Page 28 The dstc FLANGE for the Food industry The most vessels with large capacities are tall, what means the height is large in relation to the diameter. For these tall vessels the side entry agitator can not be mounted horizontal. For sufficient axial mixing an angle to the horizontal is needed. There are 3 possibilities to realise this angle by the agitatorflange: Flange 'A' is the most easy to manufacture, but it is nearly impossible to clean this kind of flange by CIP cleaning. Form 'B' and Form 'C' seem to be more easy for cleaning by a sprayball but even here are shadow zones for the cleaning.
Page 29 The dstc-flange,protected by law to Dr. Stelzer Consulting, gives a complete flat vessel wall, what is necessary for satisfying cleaning. The complete flange will delivered by Dr. Stelzer Consulting and is to weld in the vessel. The vessel manufacturer has only to provide an opening in the vessel wall, dimension and position is given by Dr. Stelzer Consulting.
Page 30 dstc-flange Flange type C The drawing above shows the different shadow area of a standard flange by comparison with a dstc-flange. An important improvement is given., the demand for perfect mixing can be fulfilled as well as the easy cleaning is possible.
