Nowadays, air handling units must be able to perform the same functions but with the lowest energy consumption. Furthermore, energy recovery systems should be available in most situations. In short, they must be energy efficient. To ensure the energy efficiency of the units, a high quality casing must be used to reduce the quantity of thermal energy losses (thermal transmission and thermal bridge) and maximize the air tightness of the casing to minimize both the input of untreated air into and the output of already treated air from the unit. Moreover, the unit must be fitted with a casing resistant to the deformities produced due to over and underpressure generated by the fans (mechanical resistance). All these features are defined and classified according to Standard EN-1886. EN-1886 EN-1886 is the European Standard responsible for assessing the mechanical performance of the casing on air handling units. More specifically it includes: - Mechanical resistance - Air tightness - Air leak flow due to bleeding through the filter wall - Thermal transmission - Thermal bridge - Acoustic insulation Mechanical strength of the casing In line with the instructions of Standard EN-1886:27, the unit is subjected to an overpressure of 1, Pa and then an underpressure of 1, Pa, in case measuring the maximum bend produced on the structure. Lastly, the unit is subjected to an overpressure of 2,5 Pa and an underpressure of 2,5 Pa before checking the structure for permanent deformities. The TKM 5 HE series obtains values of 3.7 mm/m in the +1 Pa test and.5 mm/m in the -1 Pa test, which corresponds to overpressure/underpressure class D1. The classification certified by TÜV SÜD is D2, as this was requested before performing the test. Air tightness of the casing According to Standard EN-1886, the leak test must be performed after the mechanical strength test. It begins by subjecting the unit to an underpressure of 4 Pa and measuring the air leakage flow through the casing before repeating the process and subjecting the unit to an overpressure of 7 Pa. The TKM 5 HE series obtains leak flows of.9 in the -4 Pa test and.13 in the +7 Pa test, which corresponds to the maximum classification possible, L1. Air leak flow due to bleeding through the filter wall As indicated in Standard EN-1886, the air leak flow due to bleeding through the filtration wall reduces filter efficiency, particularly in the case of a high-efficiency filter, because the leaking air is not filtered. During the test, the unit is subjected to an overpressure and an underpressure of 4 Pa and the percentage of air flow that does not pass through the filter cells is measured in relation to the rated flow. The TKM 5 HE series obtains leak flow rates of.14%/m in the +4 Pa test and.27% in the -4 Pa test, which corresponds to the maximum classification possible, F9. best worst best worst best worst Pa -4 +7 1,32,44,15 1,9,63,22 4, 2, 1,,5 Air tightness of the casing Limit EN-1886:1998 EN-1886:27,15 B L1,44 B L2 1,32 A L3 >1,32 3A,22 B L1,63 B L2 1,9 A L3 5,7 3A A B EN-1886:1998 A EN-1886:1998 F6 F7 F8 F9 EN-1886 L3 L2,9 L1 EN-1886:27 L3 L2 L1 EN-1886:27,5 % F9 F9 1, % F8 F8 2, % F7 F7 4, % F6 F6-4 Pa +7 Pa,13 Leak flow rate due to bleeding through the filter Limit EN-1886:1998 EN-1886:27,27% (-4 Pa),14% (+4 Pa) 4 5

Acoustic insulation of the casing(db) 13 25 32 32 29 34 44 125 25 5 1k 2k 4k 8k Frequency band (Hz) Thermal transmission According to Standard EN-1886, thermal transmission U (W/m 2 K) must be obtained when the temperature difference under stable conditions between the inside and the outside of the unit is 2 K. The surface used to calculate the value of U must correspond to the external surface of the casing (without the base frame and not on the upper ceiling, e.g. the weather cover installed on units for use outdoors). The TKM 5 HE series obtains a thermal transmission coefficient U =,9 (W/m 2 K), which is classified as Class T2. Thermal bridge According to EN-1886, under test conditions when the difference in average temperature between the interior and exterior temperatures is steady at 2 K, the point at the highest temperature on the outer surface of the casing must be obtained. The ratio between the temperature difference between the interior and the maximum surface temperature and the average temperature difference between the air on the interior and exterior of the unit determines the thermal bridge factor. k b = tmin / t air Where: tmin : is the smallest temperature difference tmin = t i - t smax t air : Temperature difference between the interior and exterior air, t air = t i - t a t i : average air temperature on the interior of the unit t a : average air temperature on the exterior of the unit t smax : maximum temperature on the exterior surface of the unit The TKM 5 HE series obtains a thermal bridge factor. k b =.62 which classifies it within TB2. Acoustic insulation of the casing Thanks to the type of insulation used on the panels and the excellent air tightness of the casing, the TKM 5 HE series casing obtains the acoustic attenuation values indicated in the enclosed graph. CE Marking The TKM 5 HE series units have been designed and manufactured according to the essential requirements of applicable European Community directives: - Directive 26/42/CE, machinery directive - Directive 26/95/CE, on the approximation of the laws of Member States relating to electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits - Directive 24/18/CE, on electromagnetic compatibility - Directive 29/125/CE, on ecodesign requirements for energy-related products The harmonised standards used for its design: - EN ISO 12.1.1 - EN ISO 12.1.2 Mechanical safety The TKM 5 HE series units are compliant with the European Community directives on machine safety, including: - Safety device on doors located in positive pressure (overpressure) areas - Casing earthing system to avoid risks of accidents - Belt covers on units fitted with belt-pulley transmission fans - Hazard signs in areas where there are moving parts or high temperatures - Protection grille on fan inlets - Protection grille on return fan outlet where access is possible - Double safety door or protective mesh on access sections to plug-fans - Double safety door or mesh on sections with risk of high temperatures Environment The TKM 5 HE meet the levels defined by Standard EN- 1886 and are adapted to the RITE (Regulation on Thermal Installations in Buildings) in terms of ventilation, free cooling, recovery of extracted air and motor and fan efficiency.
