BALANCED VENTILATION WITH HEAT RECOVERY Fresh air intake HRU ECO 3 RF Exhaust bathroom Exhaust kitchen Exhaust ilet Designs for the Future With the Government actively encouraging energy saving and a target for all new homes be carbon zero by 2016, the HRU ECO 3 RF has been designed future proof. The Code for Sustainable Homes which came in force in March 2007, details six levels of CO 2 emission improvement over 2006 Building Regulations requirements. To achieve the three highest levels of reduction of carbon emissions, the air leakage of the dwelling must be improved so significantly that continuous ventilation becomes the only appropriate method. In addition, it must be demonstrated that the ventilation system itself must be energy efficient. The HRU ECO 3 RF has been third party SAP Q 1 tested by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) the apropriate SAP Appendix Q test methodology and is Appendix Q eligible. 1 The Governments Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) is a method assessing the energy performance of dwellings and SAP Appendix Q provides an allowance for the benefits of energy-saving appliances; products may be independently assessed and the results uploaded the SAP website.

Energy Saving: pre-warmed fresh air lowers the heating requirement. Comfort: slow air movement eliminates draughts. Health: constant fresh air supply. Noisy sites: balanced system with no need for trickle ventilars. Exhaust house Fresh air bedroom The 2006 Edition of the U.K Building Regulations Approved Document F1:Means of Ventilation (applicable in England and Wales) details 4 clearly defined systems of ventilation dwellings. System 4 - Continuous mechanical extract with heat recovery (MVHR) is complied with by the new HRU ECO 3 RF ultra-high efficiency whole house heat recovery ventilation system. The system provides quiet, uninterrupted extract ventilation the dwelling, removing warm stale air via all of the wet rooms, creating a permanent air path through the property the dry habitable rooms. Air, drawn in the property by the fan is routed through an integral high-efficiency synthetic heat exchanger where warmth the extracted air is transferred the incoming fresh air before it is supplied the habitable rooms. In employing this type of system, there is no need install background ventilars in the dwelling - an ideal solution noisy sites. To counter increased pollutants caused by cooking or bathing activities, a wireless boost facility allows the fan s balanced extract and supply rates be increased anywhere in the property where an RF Switch is positioned. The HRU ECO 3 RF unit is equipped with an integrated fully aumated suer bypass valve that ensures that, if required, fresh air drawn in the unit fl ows directly in the air supply system instead of through the heat exchanger; in this instance there is no heat transfer between the warmer discharge air and the cooler supply air. This is a definite advantage in the suer, when air is often cooler than air indoors. An integrated fully aumatic frost protection valve ensures that the unit does not freeze during the colder months. Due the unique clamping construction in combination with the plastic/synthetic elements, the weight of the heat recovery unit HRU ECO 3 RF fan is only 25 kg. Fresh air living room Designed and Manufactured by Itho bv and supplied exclusively in the U.K. by Vortice Limited. All exhaust and supply air connections have an internal diameter of 150 and external 180. The connections can be used attach Vortice modular rigid ducting and insulated fl exible aluminium ducts and accessories. Each connection is provided with an illustration that shows the direction and source of the air. Standard NEN 5128 defines the efficiency of heat recovery units for dwellings. As a result of the efficiency determined a certificate of equivalence for the HRU ECO 3 RF fan has been issued. An efficiency of 95% can be used in the EPC calculation. In addition, the product has successfully passed the test requirements of BS EN308:1997: Heat exchangers. Test procedures for establishing the performance of air air and fl ue gases heat recovery devices.

BUILDING REGULATIONS DOCUMENT F1 2006 Continuous mechanical supply & extract ventilation with heat recovery A continuous balanced mechanical central supply and extract system be positioned in loft or cupboard space. An integral heat exchanger recovers a large percentage of heat energy that would have otherwise been lost. In employing this type of system, there is no need install background ventilars in the dwelling. Continuous supply and extract 1 Determine the whole building ventilation rate Table 1.1B Allow for infiltration by subtracting - for multi srey dwellings: 0.04 x gross internal volume of dwelling heated space (m 3 ). - for single srey dwellings: 0.06 x gross internal volume of dwelling heated space (m 3 ). 2 Calculate the whole dwelling extract rate at maximum operation by adding the individual room rates for minimum high rate Table 1.1A. 3 The required air flow rates are as follows: Maximum Extract Rate (boost) is the greater step of 1 and 2 above. The Minimum individual room extract rates should be at least those given in Table 1.1A for minimum high rate Minimum air supply rate should be at least the whole building ventilation rate in 1 above. 4 No Background ventilars are required with System 4. This is based on two occupants in the main bedroom and a single occupant in all other bedrooms. This should be used as thedefault value. If a greater level of occupance is expected, then add 4 l/s per occupant.
