Kitchens $65,000 - $80,000 McDonald Remodeling, Inc.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Goals: The owner wanted to wake up this tired old kitchen. The owners could respect the look from the 80 s. They just recognized that it was time to make some changes. They also desired to have better storage, better traffic patterns, improved lighting, new appliances, remove the appliances from the island and to make overdue repairs as needed to the space. Challenges: Clean up the traffic patterns both in and out of the kitchen Provide added and improved / dedicated storage Venting at the new location due to existing bearing obstructions Achieving more natural lighting in an already open kitchen Solutions: The open feel to this space was already there. It just had poor traffic patterns and some pinch points along the way. The Solution, different entry points to the kitchen. With two new doorways, not only is it easier to enter the kitchen when coming downstairs, it s also easier to service the dining room when entertaining with added traffic relief at the sink wall. This new layout added seating to a larger and better working island with no appliances. It created a focal point for the placement of the cooktop with exposed venting on the end wall. The venting for this hood went through the ceiling of the dining room and out the back of the home to get around the framing at the sink wall. The refrigerator is no longer the dominate feature on the end wall. The new opening at the bottom of the stairs now brings in great western / late day sunlight into the kitchen. The sink wall received extra deep base cabinets to bring them out to be more flush with the wall. This also provided more room for the faucets at the sink and a deeper upper cabinet for the microwave.
