Care and maintenance instructions for products supplied by VEKSØ A/S

Powder coated surfaces Maintenance of electrostatic polyester-coated surfaces can be reduced to a minimum with the following treatment. Cleaning We recommend that surfaces be cleaned at six month intervals. Parts exposed to the weather should be cleaned more often. Ordinary dirt should be removed with a nonabrasive, solvent-free cleaning agent. Graffiti Graffiti should be removed using benzine or turpentine. Wax should be applied after graffiti removal. Repair of minor damage: 1. Sand the affected area gently without damaging the zinc coating. 2. Remove loose particles. 3. Apply repair paint. Recommended products Repair paint: Standard car paint in the RAL colour concerned. Cleaning agent: Neutral cleaning agent with a ph value of 5 to 8. Wax: Penguin Shine, Jotun Paint. Corresponding products with similar properties may be used as alternatives. Hot-dip galvanisation VEKSØ's galvanised products are made of steel that has been hot-dip galvanised to DS/ISO 1461/DIN 50976 standards. The high quality of our galvanised steel guarantees the products a long service life with minimum maintenance. No two galvanised products are the same as galvanisation is a manual dipping process. Galvanised surfaces are not uniform and can vary in roughness and sheen. Such slight differences will fade in time as the surfaces weather, giving them a uniform patina. Galvanised surfaces require a minimum of maintenance, but dirt or graffiti can be removed with standard acid-free cleaning agents. High-pressure cleaning can also be used in extreme cases. Regular cleaning of galvanised surfaces to remove salt and similar aggressive materials can prolong the lifespan of the product. If an area of the galvanised surface larger than 8 mm in diameter peels, please contact VEKSØ to have the product repaired so that the corrosion does not spread. We recommend that corrosion protective spray paint be avoided. White rust White rust may form if water accumulates on a galvanised surface. The coating is not harmful and does not affect the corrosion protection. Mild attacks can be removed with a stiff nylon brush and warm water. Severe attacks can be removed by careful brushing with a stainless steel brush.

Screws/bolts All screws and bolts are supplied in A2 stainless steel. Screws and bolts should be retightened after three months. Anodised aluminium Although anodised aluminium requires a minimum of maintenance, it can, like galvanised steel, become dirty. If the surfaces are regularly cleaned, they will retain their decorative appearance for many years. Cleaning frequency will depend on the environment to which the anodised aluminium is exposed. Cleaning should be performed with a neutral cleaning agent (ph 5-8) which contains no abrasive material of any kind. If wanted, a partial preservative can be added to the cleaning agent to make the surface even more dirt repellent. A preservative can also be applied after cleaning. The preservative we recommend is a metal polish cleaner and a silicone-based proprietary product for the treatment of metal surfaces of aluminium and stainless steel. For example Colorrens 95 from IR Anorens. Maintenance of blasted and passivated stainless steel surfaces All stainless steel used by VEKSØ is AISI 316 acid-resistant stainless steel. Cleaning We recommend that cleaning be performed at six to twelve month intervals. The recommended frequency will be highly dependent on the environment to which the product is exposed. Ordinary dirt can be removed by cleaning the item with a solution of standard descaler. Use a brush and rinse with clean water. Protection Once the item has dried, a thin layer of steel oil should be applied with a cloth to give the surface a protective film.

Maintenance of wood for outdoor use VEKSØ Wood Oil For outdoor use on all wood types All wooden surfaces must be treated. Pressure impregnated wood is well protected against rot and fungus. Red wood (mahogany, etc.) enjoys natural protection. All wood, however, is degraded and dried by sunlight. Wood has a naturally open surface, which can absorb water and dirt. Wood surfaces must therefore be treated to prolong lifespan, preserve the attractive appearance and assure water repellency. Properties VEKSØ Wood Oil is based on alkyd/linseed oil with a high dry matter content and strong water repellent effect. VEKSØ Wood Oil penetrates the wood and fills the gaps between its fibres. The oil hardens and is bound in the wood. After treatment with VEKSØ Wood Oil, the wood will repel dirt and water to a much greater extent. Outdoors, wood is affected by water and sunshine. As a result, the wood needs effective treatment to prevent it from being degraded or attacked by rot and fungus. Treating wood with VEKSØ Wood Oil ensures that it retains its natural moistness and prevents it from being degraded. Note that leaves and other fallen matter may mark the wood if not removed in time. VEKSØ Wood Oil is available in clear, pine and mahogany. Uses VEKSØ Wood Oil is suitable for all types of wood and all wooden structures, including benches, tables, fences, decking, garden furniture, etc. VEKSØ Wood Oil contains fungicides against rot and fungus. If the wood is particularly exposed, we recommend that it be pressure/vacuum impregnated or primed with oil primer before being treated with VEKSØ Wood Oil. The best protection against degradation is ensured if VEKSØ Wood Oil is applied after treatment with a fungicide. 1. Before treatment, the wood must be dry and free of dirt and grease. 2. Apply an even layer of VEKSØ Wood Oil, clear or mahogany. Take special care when applying to end faces. 3. After two hours, wipe off excess oil with a dry cloth. 4. The oil must then be left to harden for about 24 hours.

Maintenance of oiled wood Wood which has been treated with VEKSØ Wood Oil must be maintained by re-applying VEKSØ Wood Oil or another suitable wood oil after six to twelve months or when water no longer pearls on the surface. Maintenance treatment consists of applying a single coat of oil. Where smooth wood is concerned, it may be necessary to wipe off excess oil with a dry cloth. The frequency with which maintenance treatment should be performed depends on the degree to which the wood is exposed to wear, wind and weather. It is therefore important to keep an eye on whether the wood remains water repellent. Always read the instructions and safety data sheet for the oil used. NOTE! Where oiled ash is concerned, the wood must be treated according to the instructions given above three to four times a year, or more often if exposed to aggressive weather conditions. Maintenance of untreated wood Untreated wood requires no maintenance, but has a significantly shorter lifespan than oiled wood. See also VEKSØ's Guide to Choice of Wood available at www.vekso.com. Cladding wood (pressure impregnated/vacuum impregnated) All cladding wood supplied by VEKSØ A/S is pressure impregnated according to NTR Class A/B or vacuum impregnated according to DS 2122 Class B. Roofing sheets Polycarbonate sheets The polycarbonate sheets have a UV protective surface on both sides. This manufacturing method gives good durability, protects against yellowing and ensures high light transmission for many years. Polycarbonate is 250 times more impact resistant than glass. Maintenance The outside surfaces of the sheets do not usually require cleaning as rain keeps them free of dirt. Polycarbonate can be cleaned by washing with warm water containing a mild detergent or a cleaning agent which is weakly acidic, neutral or weakly alkaline. Use a clean soft sponge. Rinse with plenty of clean water and dry with a clean chamois leather. We recommend that the polycarbonate sheets are subsequently treated with anti-static fluid. Gutters Gutters should be cleaned at least once a year. More frequent cleaning may be necessary depending on their location in relation to the surroundings, e.g. close proximity to deciduous trees.

General maintenance Doors/hinges We recommend lubrication every third month. Door locks To maintain easy operation of the lock cylinder, we recommend the use of Ruko lock spray for every 5000 openings or at least once every six months. Never subject the cylinder to graphite, oil or grease. Door cylinders To set closing speed, closing delay and constant hold, it is necessary to remove the cover plate from the door cylinder and then remove the two-component DORMA packing material with a knife. Once this has been done, the above-mentioned functions can be adjusted by means of valve screws. Please refer to the manufacturer for further details. Glass replacement Glass panes are held in place by means of a rubber seal in the upper and lower glazing beads. If the pane is shattered, the seal may be lost. New seals should therefore be brought along when replacing glass. For replacement rubber seals: contact VEKSØ. Solar cells Cleaning: Use a microfibre cloth and scale-free water (under 60 C). Advertising panels Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Lighting General information on cleaning lighting products Generally, lighting products should be cleaned in soapy water with a temperature of max. 60 C. Never use cleaning agents which contain abrasive chemicals or solvents as these may damage the surface. Avoid hard brushing or scrubbing as this may damage the surface. Always disconnect the power supply before cleaning the insides of lighting products or areas close to electrical components. Electrical components must not be exposed to water or detergent. The various surfaces should be cleaned as follows: Galvanised steel surfaces Powder coated steel surfaces

Raw aluminium surfaces Anodised aluminium surfaces Powder coated aluminium surfaces Aluminium reflectors Aluminium grilles Metal grilles Polycarbonate covers Acrylic covers Dry non-abrasive cloth Dry non-abrasive cloth Water under 60 C no chemical cleaning agents Water under 60 C no chemical cleaning agents Glass covers Water under 60 C Cleaning reflectors Before cleaning, any particles which could scratch the surface must be removed. If cleaning with a dry cloth is insufficient, rub gently with a solution of isopropyl alcohol in water. Then wipe with demineralised water. We recommend that plastic gloves be used when cleaning reflectors to avoid leaving greasy finger marks. Cleaning frequency Lighting products should be cleaned regularly depending on how dirty they become. They should also be cleaned whenever the light source is replaced. Lighting products should be cleaned at least once a year for the sake of efficiency. Replacing the light source It is important that lamps be checked regularly. We recommend that they be checked monthly. When the light source begins to change colour, it is a sign that it will soon burn out. A light source should be replaced as soon as it is discovered that it is faulty or (almost) burnt out. Faulty light sources may damage the electronics if they are left in the lighting product for too long. Directions on replacing the light source can be found in the installation instructions. Disposal of light sources Burnt out and faulty light sources should be disposed of in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Disposal of lighting products Electronic waste should be delivered to the nearest recycling centre. Large quantities should be delivered to an approved reception centre. Repair Always disconnect the power supply before performing repair. Repair work must only be performed by approved, qualified personnel. Further information on lighting products Any special maintenance requirements will be stated in the installation instructions.
