ddeigned around the pectacular view of Pleaant Bay in Orlean, Maachuett thi tunning Cape Cod home repreent ummer vacation, relaxation, holiday memorie and family time for it owner. A gathering place for both family and friend, the houe and barn the lat of three home on the property to be contructed were built a the owner main houe. In addition, another home and an expanded cottage (occupied by the owner children and their familie) complete the family village all on the ame property, all within walking ditance of each other and with breathtaking water view and a park-like etting. Team work Although there wa an exiting tructure on the ite, it really didn t meet the need of the homeowner o they turned to architect John Ingweren of Architectural Deign Inc. of Orlean to guide them. Involved in the deign and remodel of the other two home on the property, Ingweren reaembled the team that had worked on the project previouly to complete the family compound. Working ide by ide with builder Michael Cole and hi team from Cape Aociate Builder, Suan Tuttle from Surrounding Interior Deign, landcape architect Allen Abrahamon, and Peter Mckendree, vice preident of Ponderoa Landcaping and Stonework, developed a plan to deign and contruct the couple dream home. Our miion i to build life-long relationhip with our client, hare builder Michael Cole. Our experience working with the homeowner before wa thoroughly enjoyable, and we were eager to complete the viion that they had for thi pecial property. bold color & tyle Clockwie from top left: Unique furnihing are a favorite of the owner. Repect for the environment According to Ingweren, variou option were explored for remodeling the exiting home, but when it wa determined that it jut wan t going to work for the owner, the deciion wa made to deign a new houe. Since the houe wa to be built on an ecologically enitive lot Ingweren conulted with Seth Wilkeron, Architectural Deign conervation pecialit. Taking into conideration the native vegetation iue and the concern of the local Conervation Commiion, we decided to move the new houe back ignificantly from the coatal bank and out of the enitive zone, explain Wilkeron. The homeowner were o adamant that the development of the ite hould repect the environment that they carefully and expertly reearched and retored the remain of an Atlantic cedar wamp on the property. Deigning the dream A with all of their project, Architectural Deign begin their creative proce without any pre-conception. Ingweren explain that litening to their client need and preference and trying to read between the line create a meaningful dialog. Thi allow u to interpret their way of life and preent them with a comprehenive deign plan that repreent their want, need and wihe. What the homeowner wanted wa a generou houe without the big houe feel. That wa the challenge for interior deigner Suan Tuttle of Surrounding in Orlean. The client are very family-oriented and were clear about how they like to ue the pace in their home. They preferred intimate pace and did not want the houe to feel too open or too large, but at the ame time the houe had to be able to accommodate their children and grandchildren in addition being a place for entertaining extended family and friend. The large kitchen and great room were both deigned with that in mind, complete with everal worktation and a pantry ervice area. The lower floor entertainment area and the barn provide plenty of recreational opportunitie for the children. Perfect for rainy day play. The homeowner like both the unuual and practical, o the challenge wa to give the houe peronality while keeping it workable, explain Tuttle. Making the connection Intimate yet functional pace were the goal of the outdoor living pace a well. Peter Mckendree of Ponderoa Landcaping and Stonework collaborated with landcape architect Allen Abrahamon to connect the exiting element, uch a the pool and tenni court, with the main houe in a way that wa imple and elegant, maintaining a Cape Cod feel. Mckendree explain There were exiting area, along with the other two home on the property, that had elevation difference of over twenty feet between them with a very teep lope. Connecting thoe element to the main houe and the barn in an appealing an natural way wa a great challenge and a lot of fun. We matched exiting tone and hand chipped the edge of the moaic walkway tone to create a oft look that connected the new area eamlely with the untouched area on the property.
