PALM BEACH GARDENS FIRE RESCUE 018 Third Quarter Report Firefighter Ferguson and Lieutenant Heiser are pictured in front of the Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They attended the annual memorial service in September to honor those who have given their lives in the line of duty.

Executive Summary 018 THIRD QUARTER Total Calls for Service:,716 Total Inspections: 1,88 New Construction: 34 Plan Review: 309 Fire Investigations: 1 Total Dollar Loss: $0 Potential Loss: $1,00 Community Education Total Attendees: 1,3 During the third quarter of 018, Fire Rescue responded to,716 emergency calls, 80% of which were medical calls. On July 7 th, the Life Safety Services Division partnered with the American Red cross to install smoke detectors at The Meadows Florida. United Technologies (UTC) donated the smoke detectors used for this event. There were 139 alarms installed, 79 escape plans completed, and 1 residents were educated in mobile home fire safety. The Department deployed its new ballistic vests and helmets in July. These items increase the safety of Fire Rescue personnel in their response to potentially hostile events. Chief Ippolito presented at the Fire Rescue International conference held in Dallas, Texas in August. His presentation on Predicting Future Emergency Incident Profiles from Urban Planning Data focused on the use of the Department s software to plan and simulate response times for the location of Station 66. In partnership with Seacoast Utilities, Fire Rescue crews had the rare opportunity to train on roof ventilation techniques at a home donated by Seacoast. The Department participated in the annual Fill the Boot drive in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This annual event has taken place for more than 60 years. Members of the Honor Guard participated in the 3 nd IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Service on September 1 th in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial honors those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Fire Medic Shawn Thurman, who was a member of Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue, was added to this memorial in recent years and it was a true privilege to honor his memory and the memories of the others included on this Memorial. Chief Broedell participated in the Suits for Seniors Career Day at William T. Dwyer High School, along with Mayor Marino. This was an opportunity to share aspects of a Fire Rescue career with local high school seniors as they start to plan their future career paths.

Members of the Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue Department had the opportunity to practice ventilation techniques on a home donated by Seacoast Utilities. Ventilation allows heat and smoke to escape from burning buildings and therefore allows firefighters to move more easily throughout the building. Lieutenant Ladewski, Driver Engineer Ashby, Captain Autwell, Fire Medic Brice, Fire Medic Carter, and Fire Medic Rademacher were honored with the Fire Rescue Department s 018 Quarter 3 Call of the Quarter for the exemplary life-saving actions they displayed on a recent call. Fire Medic Krzywada, Driver Engineer Miller, Rescue Lieutenant Wolnewitz, Captain Held, and Fire Medic Shutts were among many who collected money to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association in their fight for people affected by muscular dystrophy in September. 3

Potential Dollar Loss is the actual dollar value of the structure as per the Property Appraiser s Office. It indicates what the dollar loss would be if the structure were completely destroyed by fire. This dollar amount includes the contents of the structure, which is generally considered to be 30% of the structure s value. There are several factors that can limit the total dollar loss amount of a structure. These include compliance with fire codes, early detection systems (fire alarms), and fire suppression equipment (e.g. fire sprinklers and commercial cooking fire suppression systems). Additionally, quick fire attacks made by Fire Rescue crews also play an important role in limiting the amount of damage caused by fire and smoke. 7
