Routine Cleaning of the icolor 700 Continuous Digital Label Press By Mike Josiah and the Technical Staff at UniNet For best results, the icolor 700 digital label press should be cleaned at the end of each day or if die cut media is being run after every 500 FT is run. A full clean only takes minutes and will ensure the proper operation of your equipment. A buildup of glue can cause registration issues, poor tracking and jams. Typically what happens is a run will start OK but one of the above problems will happen. You reset the media restart the run and at first it s OK again. The problem is as the media moves over the glue buildup the glue gets hot and starts to stick to the media stopping it from moving properly. Small amounts can cause tracking issues or registration issues. Large amounts can cause jams. Once the glue cools it stops sticking and the printer runs normally again. Taking five minutes at the end of the day to clean these areas will help ensure these issues do not happen. REQUIRED SUPPLIES 1. Isopropyl alcohol - 70% or 99% works best 2. Pack of wooden stick cotton swabs 3. Lint Free 4 synthetic cotton cloths The lint free cloths, 99% pure isopropyl alcohol, and wood cotton swabs are all available from UniNet. 1. Open the media feed tray by pressing in on the two bottom tabs. Pull the tray 2/3 out from the printer. 2. Place a small amount of the alcohol on the 4 cloth and clean any residue from the copper colored roller on the bottom of the feed assembly.

3. With the same cloth, ad a bit more alcohol and clean the insides of the media guides. Clean the insides of both he left and right sides. You can see a small bit of adhesive buildup on the right guide if you look closely. 4. Take a new 4 cloth, apply a small amount of alcohol, and clean the top rubber and stainless steel knurled rollers. 5. Clean the large stainless steel roller below the guides.

6. With a cotton swab dipped in alcohol, clean the inside edge of the right and left guides. Pay special attention to the inner edges, as this is where buildup tends to occur. Anything white - there is glue and paper dust. Depending on how bad the buildup is this spot might take a few moments. Make sure you remove it all and do NOT use a scraper! Scrapers can cause a scratch, which can cause more buildup and/or jams. 7. Open the MP tray door.

8. Pull down on the blue handle to open the inner door. 9. Clean all the ribs of plastic as shown. As the media passes by this point the edges can leave behind glue. Over time it will cause registration issues if not cleaned. 10. When cleaning this area be careful not to damage the paper sensor shown. 11. Close the doors, and your all done!

If there was a toner leak inside the printer (caused by a bad jam, damaged drum unit, etc.), the toner/drum cartridges should be removed from the printer and the transfer belt carefully wiped off with a fresh DRY lint free cloth. Do NOT use alcohol or any type of chemical cleaner here! Just wipe up the toner rotating the cloth. If the leak is severe, the transfer belt should be removed and the inside of the printer vacuumed with a toner approved vacuum (available from UniNet). Do not use a standard vacuum as the toner will run right through a standard vacuum filter into the air and any static charges that might buildup during the vacuuming process can damage the printer. Toner approved vacuums use a special static dissipating hose and grounding system to prevent this type of damage. If a toner-approved vacuum is not available, wipe the toner up with lint free cloths. Again do NOT use alcohol or any type of chemical cleaner here as the printer will be damaged.
