PINE RUN INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEW TRASH, GARBAGE AND RECYCLING SYSTEM BACKGROUND In May, one of the first issues we raised with our new management company Keys- Caldwell was our system of garbage pick-up. K-C informed us that we could repair our sunken garbage pits but not replace them because they were no longer permitted. They suggested a meeting with the County and Waste-Management. K-C, the County and Waste Management came up with the new system that is sanitary, environmental, combines recycling and garbage/trash in one place and eliminates the need for owners to store their trash/garbage for a week and then put it out at the curb. 1 1 We received the new bins and began the new system in September. Read the following carefully. Contact our Maintenance office if you have questions. Rick's number is 966-1645. TRASH/GARBAGE - New green, large (96 gal) trash/garbage bins replace old sunken (30 gal) garbage pails and the system in recent years of owners putting their trash/garbage in black plastic bags and leaving it at the curb on Thursdays. The garbage and trash that in the past you put in black plastic bags should be put in the new trash/garbage bins. All trash/ garbage must be in securely tied plastic bags of any color or size. - Trash/garbage in plastic bags can be put in the bins at any time. When a bin is filled and the lid won t tightly close, don t add additional trash. The bins and their lids are designed to be sanitary, but only work when the lids close tightly. On pick-up day, Maintenance will move the bins to the curb for pick-up and return them after they are emptied. - The new bins are large enough to serve three units. Where possible, for Sections II and III and Building C, #351 through #367 odd numbers, the new bins will be placed in the fenced garbage area where your old sunken pail is located. Three trash/ garbage bins will be placed in each area and are for the use of owners who have sunken pails in that area. A bin is not assigned to a specific unit. - The trash/garbage bins for the #300s, Section I, except for #351 through #367 odd numbers, are located in the fenced area to the right as you exit Pine Run. - The trash/garbage bins for the #700s, Section I, are located behind the mailboxes at either end of the oval. Owners should use the bins behind their mail box - As soon as possible the lids over the sunken pails will be removed and the holes filled.
RECYCLING - The same recycling bins that we have used in the past and the directions about what can be recycled and in which bins recyclable items should be placed remain the same. See detailed instruction below. - The bins have been moved to the same locations as the new trash/garbage bins to make it more convenient for owners. Pine Run s version of one stop garbaging/ recycling. - Usually two recycling bins, one for glass, tin cans and plastic and the other for paper and cardboard boxes, have been placed in an area with three trash/garbage bins. Recycling bins marked with RED SIGNS are for recycling paper: newspapers (remove plastic sleeve for garbage) magazines writing paper envelopes (including window envelopes) corrugated cardboard (flattened to 2 feet by 3 feet or less) brown paper bags telephone books paperback books junk mail glossy sale flyers shredded paper (in paper grocery bags) - Recycling bins marked with BLUE SIGNS are for recycling metal cans, glass and plastic: glass bottles and jars (all colors) aluminum cans/foil trays & tin cans with lids aerosol cans (empty) drink boxes (remove the straws) milk and juice boxes plastic bottles * * with neck and a or symbol); remove tops and place them in garbage
Tips: Most major grocery stores accept plastic grocery bags and newspaper wrappers. They usually have barrels near the entrance of the store for collection. Remove all caps from glass bottles and place the caps in the garbage. No window glass, mirrors, light bulbs, ovenware, ceramics, drinking glasses or eyeglasses are recyclable. Do not put recyclables in plastic bags. YARD WASTE, OVERSIZED ARTICLES AND SPECIAL PICK-UPS Call Waste Management at 924-1254 to arrange for a special pick-up. In general, special pick-ups are for items too large to easily fit in a plastic bag and the trash/garbage bins. If you have questions about special pick-ups, give Rick a call at 966-1645. HAZARDOUS WASTE Disposal of hazardous waste is the responsibility of individual owners and must not be put in either trash/garbage bins or recycling bins. Some of the items on the hazardous waste list will be picked up as a special pick-up because we are a condo. Call 924-1254 or Rick, 966-1645 and check before you put an item out for special pick-up that you aren t sure about.
