Sanitary Pressure Transmitter INTRODUCTION The Rosemount Pressure Transmitter (1) is a microprocessor-based sanitary pressure transmitter that conforms to 3-A Sanitary Standards. It features product contact surfaces designed for CIP cleaning, and materials of construction Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the FDA. The sanitary fill fluid Neobee M-20 is approved as an indirect food additive according to the FDA of Federal Regulations Title 21. The solid-state, polysilicon pressure sensor, shown in Figure 3, is closely coupled with the product surface using a small amount of Neobee fill fluid. This provides superior performance and fast dynamic response. The isolating diaphragm is 316L stainless steel. The sanitary design provides a product contact surface that is easy to clean and able to withstand thermal shocks. APPLICATIONS The design is small, stable, and reliable, making it an ideal choice for food and pharmaceutical applications, including the following: fermentation vessel pressure, CIP source center discharge pressure, line pressure, spray dry, homogenizer or separator stuffing pressure, HTST pasteurization, and back pressure control. The transmitter is small enough to mount directly on process lines and vessels without additional supports. With an upper process temperature of 284 F (140 C), the transmitter is also well suited for applications that require hightemperature steam cleaning. Designed for sanitary applications, it easily connects to your process through standard sanitary fittings without requiring special mounting hardware. The is available with both 1 1 /2- and 2-inch Tri-Clamp process connections. FEATURES The provides accurate, stable, and reliable pressure measurement in your most difficult applications. State of the art, microprocessor-based error correction and Rosemount thin-film polysilicon sensing technology delivers impressive performance for this price. This greatly reduces the errors caused by temperature cycles and the amount of time spent adjusting the transmitter output. A two-compartment electronics housing provides an integral junction box with easy access to test terminals on either side of the transmitter. The electronics are housed in a separate airtight compartment, and the modular design allows easy replacement of the circuit board. OPERATION When pressure is applied to an isolating diaphragm, it is transmitted to the polysilicon sensor by means of a Neobee fill fluid, as shown in Figure 3. With a gage pressure transmitter, the reference side of the sensor is exposed to atmospheric pressure; absolute pressure transmitters have a sealed vacuum reference. Applying process pressure to the sensor creates a very small deflection of the sensing diaphragm; which in turn, applies strain to a Wheatstone bridge circuit in the sensor. The change in resistance is sensed and converted to a digital signal for processing by the microprocessor. Failure Alarm If self-diagnostics detect a sensor or microprocessor failure, the analog signal is driven either high or low to alert the user. High or low failure mode is user-selectable by a jumper on the transmitter. The values to which the transmitter drives its output in failure mode depend on whether it is factory-configured to standard or NAMUR-compliant operation.
