Case study details Customer: Hutchinson Builders Product: Location: Installer: A variety of park furniture, including park benches, seats, picnic settings and bin surrounds Toowoomba City Library, Herries Street Hutchinson Builders Ref No: 25601 Overview The $27 million Toowoomba City Library officially opened its doors on in February 2016. Furphy Foundry park furniture, supplied by Landmark Products, are a key ingredient through the surrounding gardens and parks. This 6,800 m2 building has all the traditional library features but boasts a cutting edge modern design with high technology equipment. The copper façade is a major element, identifying the library as the absolute city centre piece. The project was constructed by Hutchinson Builders, one of Australia s oldest and largest private building and construction companies.
Street furniture key ingredient of surrounding gardens Hutchinson Builders called upon Landmark Products to supply a combination of Landmark and Furphy Foundry s outdoor furniture for all outside public spaces including the Civic Square precinct. Furphy Foundry manufactured and supplied 16 standard Civic seats, eight Oasis general waste bin surrounds, eight Oasis recycle bin surrounds, 15 Fulcrum benches and three Civic table and bench picnic settings. The Civic seats came in the standard size of 1800mm (length) x 406mm (width) x 795mm (height) and placed under the open top shelters with growing vines facing the beautiful gardens. These seats are made with hot dipped galvanised steel frames and armrests suitable to withstand the often harsh Toowoomba conditions which swing from sweltering in the summer, to chillingly cold in winter. The timber slats are treated hardwood with an oilbased finish (Cutek CD50 Extreme in Burnt Red) to enhance the natural timber properties.
High quality bin surrounds For a high level of waste management in the area, the Furphy Oasis general waste and recycle litter receptacles were provided. These bin surrounds are 240 litres in capacity and finished using 316 grade stainless steel for low maintenance. The curved stainless-steel cover prevents water from entering the bin and provide entry from all sides to make it easier to place waste in the bins. Each bin surround is equipped with a 7mm triangular lock and key to protect the bins from vandalism and subtle decals complete the receptacles for a modern low maintenance design.
Fulcrum benches and Civic picnic settings The Fulcrum benches are also standard sizing at 1800mm (l) x 245mm (w) x 435mm (h) and were placed adjacent to the Civic seats to provide contrast in the garden area. These benches are constructed with stainless steel fixings, mill finished aluminium cast frames and treated hardwood timber boards (Cutek CD50 Extreme), which perfectly complements the Civic seats in the square s precinct. The Furphy Civic Picnic Settings were also the standard size of 1800mm in length, 750mm table height and 435mm bench height with wheelchair access to one end. These were placed in designated areas to provide individual spaces for groups to sit, chat and gather together.
Tumut platform benches Landmark manufactured and supplied five standard 1.8m x 1.8m Tumut platform benches with bolt-down legs. Tumut platform benches have a hot-dipped galvanized metal frame, and stained hardwood slats (optional). Landmark Products were delighted in the overall results and to play a part in what became a multiple award-winning project by Hutchinsons.
