General description and applications The MAXIMA / DELTA rainwater unit developed by WISY is a complete system for use in large rainwater harvesting installations and comprises: hybrid unit or buffer tank for installation in frost-free, indoor utility rooms. The buffer tank with 100 litre storage capacity requires a floor area of 1 m x 1 m and a ceiling height of 2 m (the 500 litre version requires a floor area of approximately 2 m x 2 m and a ceiling height of 2 m) the electronic control unit (wall mounted) with sensor rod in the buffer tank the rainwater storage tank equipment, a submersible pump with float switch and floating fine suction filter 1 ¼, with 20 m electrical connecting cable Proper use! Maxima as a break tank Improper use! MAXIMA / DELTA is capable of supplying a large number of extraction points (e.g. in apartment buildings, or commercial / industrial buildings) with clear, filtered rainwater. The Provedo pump in the rainwater storage tank pumps the rainwater into the indoor buffer tank. The Multigo submersible pressure pump in the buffer tank pumps the water to the appliances; the cut-in pressure of the Multigo (default setting: 1.5 bar) can be adjusted to between 1.5 and 2.8 bar at the ZETA 02/V pump controller. During periods of dry weather, the buffer tank is topped up on demand with mains water via the open mains water outlet. When the inlet pipe from the rainwater storage tank is installed along a gradient to the buffer tank, or if the buffer tank is installed at an elevation lower than the water level in the rainwater storage tank, the non-return valve (Item SV 1501, accessory) is required to prevent the buffer tank from overflowing. For special, larger-scale applications, MAXIMA (or special version DELTA) can be upgraded with a heavier-duty rainwater storage tank pump, a dual-pump booster system and a 500 litre buffer tank (large installation area required). Without the rainwater storage tank equipment, MAXIMA / DELTA can function as a break tank, e.g. for irrigation purposes. The mains water is admitted to the buffer tank via the open mains water outlet and the Multigo pumps the water to the extraction points. For this application, the solenoid valve of the open mains water outlet must be connected to the Outdoor pump socket (middle shock-proof socket on the control unit). MAXIMA / DELTA cannot be used to supply appliances which take in water at a rate of less than 1 litre per minute (e.g. drip irrigation systems). Extraction points must close completely, the rainwater circuit must be leak-tight. The maximum starting frequency of the Maxima / Delta is 20 starts per hour. If the above-mentioned conditions for proper use cannot be reliably fulfilled, a suitable diaphragm expansion vessel must be installed at the discharge end downstream of the ZETA 02/V pump controller. MAXIMA / DELTA is not suitable for pumping dirty rainwater or well water (containing dirt or sand particles). Improper usage can result in destruction of the pump. 3

The pumps, pump controller, control unit and sensor rod must never be lifted or pulled by the power cable. No one may climb into the rainwater storage tank while the Maxima / Delta is connected to the mains supply. The electric plug of the Maxima / Delta must be removed from the socket to disconnect the unit from the mains supply before any repair or maintenance work is carried out on the rainwater unit or any maintenance or inspection work is performed inside the rainwater storage tank. Never leave the rainwater storage tank unsupervised when it is open! No one except specially trained personnel is allowed to climb inside the rainwater storage tank. When working inside the tank, personnel must be supervised at all times and must take appropriate safety precautions (e.g. wear a recovery harness). If the earth-leakage circuit-breaker or fuse trips, the trip cause must be identified and rectified by the manufacturer / by a contractor appointed by the manufacturer. If the power cable to the Maxima / Delta is found to be damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer / by a contractor appointed by the manufacturer. Installation work which involves particular hazards (e.g. risk to mains water supply or the electrical installation) must always be carried out by a properly qualified, approved plumber or electrician who is at least qualified in the following technical areas: Selection of appropriate tools and suitable electrical and installation materials IP degrees of protection Correct methods of installing electrical and other materials TN-C system, TN-S system and appropriate additional measures where necessary Drinking water protection in accordance with DIN EN 1717, DIN 1989 Failure to install the equipment properly can endanger your own life and the lives of people who use the equipment. The system must be connected to a 230 V, single-phase AC (50 Hz) supply. The Maxima / Delta unit must be operated with clean water (rainwater or mains water) which does not contain aggressive, abrasive or solid substances. Operating principle The magnetic float moves up and down the electronic sensor rod with the water level in the tank. The sensor rod is fixed at the top of the tank and on the tank base. Electronic switching contacts are located at specific points along the rod. If the magnetic float reaches a switching contact, the relevant system function is activated.! Overflow fault If the water level is too high or the tank overflows due to a malfunction, the connections Outdoor pump socket (5) and Solenoid valve socket (6) are de-energized. An overflow alarm is triggered (buzzer, LED fault, optional fault signal via isolated output). The overflow alarm must be acknowledged once the cause of the fault has been rectified even if operation returns to normal after an overflow. Overvoltage fault In order to protect the control system electronics, the pumps and the solenoid valve, the sockets are protected by microfuses (outdoor pump 16 A, indoor pump 10 A, solenoid valve 10 A). The microfuses can be accessed with a screwdriver on the front panel. When a fuse trips, the cause of the trip must be investigated and rectified by a specialist. Please also pay careful attention to the safety information in these instructions. 6

When the cut-in pressure (adjustable between 1.5 and 2.8 bar) set at the Zeta pump controller is reached, the Multigo pump in the buffer tank starts up. When all valves at the appliances are closed again and there is no measurable flow through the circuit, the Zeta pump controller shuts down the Multigo pump when the operating pressure is reached (= max. delivery head). 8

Rainwater operation Mains water operation Dry run protection Manual switchover to mains water operation Water is always extracted from the rainwater storage tank through the supplied floating suction filter. This floating filter ensures that water is extracted from the cleanest area of the tank rather than from the tank base (sediments) or from the water surface (floating layer). The fine filtering action of the floating filter improves the water quality and protects against pump damage caused by large dirt particles that might be deposited in the tank. The MAXIMA /DELTA buffer tank is generally supplied with rainwater by the submersible pump in the rainwater storage tank. If the rainwater level in the storage tank drops too low, the submersible pump is switched off by the float switch. If the water level in the buffer tank in the utility room continues to fall, the tank is topped up with mains water via the open outlet (implemented according to DIN EN 1717). The fully automatic control system of the MAXIMA / DELTA unit generally ensures that there is sufficient water in the buffer tank. However, if the water drops below a minimum level, the Multigo pump is switched off and not reconnected to the power supply until the tank has been topped up again with sufficient water. If the water in the buffer tank rises above the maximum level, the control system issues an audible overflow alarm. This alarm must be acknowledged with the Fault button. The overflow alarm signal can be optionally connected to an isolated output. In either case, the cause of the fault must be investigated and rectified. The energy-efficient Zeta 02/V pump controller also provides dry run protection for the Multigo pump. The Maxima / Delta rainwater unit can be operated in mains water mode while maintenance on the rainwater storage tank is in progress or when an especially high water quality is required. To select mains water mode, the rainwater storage tank pump / loading pump must be disconnected from the power supply (pull the plug out of the Outdoor pump socket on the control unit). Please observe the safety information in these instructions. Planning examples Standard version with one rainwater storage tank loading pump per Maximum buffer tank One Maxima rainwater unit is installed in each individual building. A separate submersible pump is assigned to each Maxima in the rainwater storage tank that is shared by all the buildings. Version with one Multigo loading pump in the rainwater storage tank for several Maxima buffer tanks One Maximum buffer tank is installed in each building. All buildings share a single rainwater circuit. The rainwater is pumped by one Multigo submersible pressure pump with float switch, dry run protection and Zeta (Zeta / V) pump controller from the rainwater storage tank used by all the buildings. At the Outdoor pump socket at each Maxima buffer tank, a solenoid valve is connected instead of the submersible pump. This valve is connected to the rainwater inlet and keeps it closed. As the water level in the buffer tank sinks and reaches the switching point Outdoor pump, the solenoid valve opens. The pressure in the line to the rainwater storage tank reaches the cut-in pressure set at the Zeta (Zeta/V) pump controller which then switches on the Multigo in the rainwater storage tank. The buffer tank is then topped up. A pressure reducing valve can be installed if the pressure at the rainwater inlet is too high. When the rainwater level in the storage tank is too low, the Multigo is switched off by the float switch (dry run protection). The buffer tank is then topped up with mains water via the open outlet. Large Delta type system with Provedo / Multigo loading pump in the rainwater storage tank; dual-pump booster system and large 500 litre buffer tank in the utility room Single system for supplying a large apartment building, a hotel, an office building, a school, a sports centre or a commercial building. For large-scale systems, we offer the Maxima type Delta with a 500 litre buffer tank and system technology tailored to meet the requirements of individual applications. To pump the rainwater out of the rainwater storage tank, we supply the standard submersible pump Provedo. For large height differentials/long line lengths between storage tank and rainwater unit, we supply the submersible pressure pump Multigo. Both pumps are equipped with a float switch for dry run protection. 9

Important: Adequate top-up with mains water! Calculation of pressure losses Important information: Mains water top-up It must be ensured that the mains water pipe connected to the open outlet of the MAXIMA / DELTA can deliver the volumetric flow rate into the buffer tank that is required by the appliances connected to the rainwater circuit. Appliances with a total demand of maximum 40 l/min can be connected to the Maxima 205 (top-up with open outlet ½ ). The mains water pipe must be capable of delivering at least 40 l/min at the open outlet. Appliances with a total demand of up to maximum 100 l/min can be connected to the Maxima 407 (top-up with open outlet ¾ ). The mains water pipe must be capable of delivering at least 100 l/min at the open outlet. If the mains water line is not capable of delivering the mains water quantities specified above into the rainwater unit, the number of appliances must be reduced. Volumetric flow rate, pressure at appliance: For MAXIMA and DELTA systems that need to supply a high volumetric flow rate / pressure at appliances (industrial applications, irrigation systems, etc.), the delivery head at the rainwater unit, the length and bore of piping, elbows, valves etc. all reduce the volumetric flow rate and pressure at the appliance. The relevant losses in volumetric flow rate and pressure must be carefully calculated at the planning stage (before the system is installed). Flexible programming options The SIGURA 9 can be programmed to meet individual requirements, i.e. the pump run-on time, the number of pump starts per hour and the period of continuous pump operation can all be set directly on the pump controller. For more information, please refer to the enclosed operating instructions for the Zeta pump controller Selection of correct pump for rainwater storage tank Connection of the emergency overflow DN 100! Diaphragm expansion vessel Installation requirements We recommend our pressure hose (can be cut to length by the metre on request) or a PE tube with a cross section of at least 1 ¼ for use as the pumped rising main from the rainwater storage tank to the Maxima / Delta rainwater unit. The pressure hose / PE tube and pump cable can be routed from the rainwater storage tank to the indoor utility room through a duct pipe DN 100 (e.g. a sewer pipe). The duct pipe must be installed so that it is protected against frost. The duct through the wall must be properly made and sealed. When the base of the rainwater storage tank is situated at a large distance/ height differential from the rainwater unit in the utility room, it is important to calculate whether the standard rainwater tank pump Provedo is powerful enough for the application, or whether a pump with higher output rating, e.g. the WISY Multigo, is required. Please contact our service department if you need advice. The MAXIMA / DELTA rainwater unit must be installed in a cool, frost-free room. It requires 1 m x 1 m floor space with 2 m ceiling height. A shock-proof socket outlet with 16 A fuse that is additionally protected by a highly sensitive earthleakage circuit-breaker 0.03 A (30 ma) must also be provided. Connections for mains water, rainwater storage tank inlet and rainwater circuit as well as an overflow connection in DN 100 with backflow prevention device are also required. An installation site must be selected in which the open mains water outlet is above backflow level and the mid-line point on the buffer tank is higher than the maximum possible water level in the rainwater storage tank. If you are planning to install the buffer tank at an elevation below the rainwater storage tank (e.g. on a hillside), or if the pipe from the rainwater storage tank is installed along a gradient to the buffer tank, there is a risk that the buffer tank will overflow. In this case, it is necessary to take further precautions, e.g. by installing an additional non-return solenoid valve (Item SV 1501). Since the MAXIMA / DELTA rainwater unit will generally supply a large number of appliances, it is useful to install a suitable (flow-through-type) expansion vessel (to be provided by client) in the discharge line immediately downstream of the buffer tank and the Zeta 02/V pump controller. 10

Installation in rainwater storage tank! Important: Flush through pipework Installation in utility room Important: Flush mains water pipe Installation Rainwater storage tank Place the tank pump on the base of the rainwater storage tank using the lifting rope and then attach the rope to the supplied stainless steel hook fitted at the top of the storage tank access shaft. Never lift or pull the pump by the power cable. Position the pump in such a way that the floating suction filter can move freely. Attach a flexible pressure hose (1 ¼ ) to the nozzle (1 ¼ ) at the pump outlet and secure with a stainless steel hose clamp. The connection in the storage tank must be flexible enough to allow the pump to be removed from the tank by the lifting rope if necessary. The flexible hose can now be connected to the supplied PE adapter (1 ¼ ) in the storage tank access shaft. The pressure hose / PE tube and the connecting cable for the submersible pump are routed together with other lines (measuring lead for fill level indicator, etc.) through a 100 mm duct pipe into the utility room. The tank must contain some water to allow flushing through of the pipework. Water can be added to the tank when the installation work is complete. The pump must be fully submerged. Utility room / building Fit the non-return valve to the rainwater inlet on the buffer tank. After the pumped rising main from the rainwater tank has been flushed, it can be connected to the non-return valve. Fit the ZETA 02/V (18) pump controller in a flat-sealing connection to the outlet pipe of the Multigo (9). Plug the electric plug of the Multigo in the buffer tank into the socket of the Zeta O2/V. The connection between the Zeta 02/V and the rainwater supply circuit must be free of tension, flat-sealing, high pressure resistant and acoustically isolated. To connect the Maxima 205, please use our Item VS 9953, and the corresponding 1 version (VD 9928 + ZK 0413) for the Maxima 407. Similar arrangements should be made for the Delta version depending on the pumps used. These items are designed to ensure that no noise or pump pressure surges can be transmitted to the piping system. The mains water top-up unit (11-13, 19) is dismantled before the MAXIMA / DELTA unit is shipped. Insert the tundish into the hole provided (use lubricant). After the mains water pipe has been flushed, you can connect the open mains water outlet (isolating valve with dirt trap) to the mains water pipe. The overflow connection of the buffer/hybrid unit must be connected to a 100 mm diameter pipe which must be connected either to a drain or back into the rainwater tank. The pipe must have a minimum diameter of 100 mm over its entire length. It is absolutely essential to protect this connection against backflow. It may be necessary to install a backflow prevention device. The buffer tank is equipped with an overflow device that prevents sewer odour or gas from entering the tank when it is filled with water. Install the control unit (1) with mounting plate in a protected, dry area (attach to a wall, for example). It can be installed at a distance of around 1.5 m from the buffer tank; the lengths of electric power cables to be connected must be taken into account. Route the connecting cable of the sensor rod with connector and circlip carefully and safely to the control unit (make sure that it is protected against mechanical damage and electromagnetic fields) and connect it up; connection at bottom, screw in circlip! 11

! Before carrying out maintenance work with open rainwater storage tank, disconnect the pump in the rainwater storage tank from the control unit (1) by pulling out the plug! Please read and follow the safety instructions (see section headed Safety information in these instructions)! Commissioning Before you start the commissioning process, check that all pipe connections are water-tight and that all cables have been routed safely and without tension. You must make sure that the cables cannot be damaged during any further work or activities in the utility room. No adjustments or calibration are necessary. First insert the electric plugs of the rainwater tank pump and the solenoid valve into the sockets on the control unit (1): Rainwater tank pump Outdoor pump (5) Solenoid valve Solenoid valve MW top-up (6) After you have checked the piping and electrical connections, connect the electric plug of the control unit to the mains supply (230 V, 16 A, additionally protected by means of 30 ma ELCB). Switch on the control unit at the toggle switch. Mains water/rainwater top-up systems switch on automatically, the control lamps light up. When the buffer tank is full, the top-up system and rainwater tank pump shut down automatically. Open the valves at the appliances. Now connect the power cable of the Zeta pump controller to the control unit. ZETA 02/V pump controller Indoor pump socket (4) As soon as the system has been bled, close the valves at the appliances. The MAXIMA / DELTA is ready to operate as soon as maximum operating pressure (approximately 4.8 bar) is reached. If the maximum delivery head is not reached or if the dry run protection system of the Zeta 02/V pump controller is activated, it may be necessary to restart the Multigo in the buffer tank a second time by means of the reset button on the Zeta 02/V pump controller in order to fully bleed the system. Before pressing the reset button, open the valves at the appliances again. If water is drawn from the buffer tank, the control unit automatically tops up the unit with rainwater from the rainwater storage tank, or with mains water if no rainwater is available. It is also possible to activate the top-up systems manually during testing or servicing. This is done by means of buttons on the front panel of the control unit. Maintenance and servicing Inspections/tests at 6-month intervals: Check the entire system including the water pipe connections for leaks Check the system pressure indication Test the pump cut-in and cut-out points set on the pump controller Check mains water operation, e.g. by pulling out the plug for the rainwater storage tank pump Inspections/tests at 12-month intervals: Inspect the dirt trap at the isolating valve of the mains water connection, clean if required (contact specialist installation company for assistance if necessary) Inspect the floating suction filter in the rainwater storage tank; if necessary, clean with water jet or using a brush with extended handle from ground level (contact specialist installation company for assistance if necessary). Disconnect the storage tank pump from the power supply, i.e. by pulling out the plug, before you carry out this work! Replacement: Ten years after the system has been commissioned, the mains water top-up solenoid valve and the diaphragm of the pump controller must be replaced (specialist installation company). 12
