TURF INSECTICIDES Arena 50 WDG A SINGLE WORKS PREVENTATIVELY AND CURATIVELY FOR LONG-LASTING RESIDUAL CONTROL OF WHITE GRUBS AND A BROAD SPECTRUM OF OTHER PESTS TURF INSECT CONTROL CHALLENGE Grubs always get in the way. And maintaining golf courses and sod farms free from grub damage has always been a challenge. Golf course superintendents and sod farmers need an effective option for controlling the damage done by the toughest turf insects like annual bluegrass weevil, white grubs and European crane fly. NUFARM SOLUTION Arena insecticide is a valuable tool for broadspectrum insect control in turf. Arena delivers superior, consistent, season-long control of a broad range of insect pests. With preventative and curative activity, Arena provides long residual grub control to save time, money and labour required with multiple application products. REGISTERED USES Turfgrass including golf courses, sod farms, and municipal, industrial, and residential turf (where not prohibited by provincial laws) INSECTS CONTROLLED Annual bluegrass weevil 5.5-7.0 Bluegrass billbug 4.5 European crane fly (Leather jacket) 5.5 Hairy chinch bug 3.5-5.0 White grubs (Asiatic garden beetle, European chafer, Japanese beetle, Masked chafers, Oriental beetle) RATES (g/100 m 2 ) 2.5-5.0 * Duration of control depends on environmental factors, plant growth, dosage rate and degree of insect infestation. BENEFITS Superior, long-lasting residual control of a broad spectrum of tough soil- and surface-feeding insects Preventative and curative grub control Consistent results for control of turfgrass insects PLUS Season-long insect control with one application saves time, money and labour Controls pyrethroid-resistant chinch bugs without increasing the level of pyrethroid resistance Superior grub control, including curative activity, helps keep foraging animals away No immediate post-application watering required PERFORMANCE TIPS Rate is dependent on target species and stage of target pest No surfactant required When targeting multiple pests, make application to earliest egg lay or adult flight Correct water volumes are essential for control Use a calibrated spreader to uniformly broadcast over the treatment area Do not mow turf grass until after irrigation or rainfall has occurred ARENA ACTIVE INGREDIENT > > Group 4A (clothianidin 50%) water dispersible granular RAINFAST > > As soon as spray dries PACKAGING > > 1.13 kg container > > One jug treats 226 sections of 100 m 2 or 2.26 ha at the 5.0 g/100 m 2 rate > > 4 containers in a case NOTES > > No surfactant required > > One application per season Always read and follow label directions. ARENA 50 WDG INSECTICIDES Crane Fly Larvae Control Crane fly larvae cause significant damage to turf by feeding on the roots of grass plants. European crane fly overwinter as larva and will feed and cause damage in the spring, with peak damage occurring in May and early June from the 4th instar larva. Adults emerge and lay eggs in July to September. Don t settle for insecticides that give up control early. Get the best and the longest-lasting residual crane fly larvae control with Arena insecticide. Arena works both curatively and preventatively for outstanding control of crane fly larvae and a broad spectrum of other pests. ARENA DELIVERS Curative and preventative action for outstanding control of crane fly larvae Broad-spectrum control of other soil- and surface-feeding insects including white grubs, billbugs and pyrethroid-resistant chinch bugs INFORMATION TARGET INSECT RATE TIMING Crane fly larvae 5.5 g/100 m 2 (550 g/ha) Curative: In Spring to mature larvae, prior to pupation Preventative: In Fall prior to egg hatch Annual Bluegrass Weevil Control Annual bluegrass weevil (ABW) is a challenging pest that can cause significant damage to cool season turf. Adults move from overwintering sites into short cut, managed turf areas, feeding while they move. Eggs are laid inside an individual leaf sheath, larva hatch and begin to feed in the stem. As larva grow larger, they migrate downward and feed in the crown, maturing in late May or early June. In a program approach, Arena insecticide delivers outstanding control of ABW to improve turf quality. And when used as directed, Arena also controls white grubs, billbugs, crane flies and hairy chinch bugs. Program recommendations are focused on adults and larva, and require specific insecticides to manage each stage. INFORMATION TREATMENT RATE TIMING Larvicide 5.5-7.0 g/100 m 2 For optimal control, target 2nd to larvae Apply Arena when insect populations reach damaging thresholds The average timeframe for ABW is mid-may and mid-june Adulticide 5.5-7.0 g/100 m 2 Early season applications to overwintered adults may provide suppression only EXCELLENT CURATIVE CONTROL OF CRANE FLY LARVAE Maximum spring (curative) control was achieved in seven days with Arena outperforming the standard for curative crane fly larvae control, helping to ensure healthy, better looking turf. % Control 100 75 50 25 0 80 Arena 550 g/ha Merit 89.7 kg/ha Products applied 5-30 and sampled 1, 3 and 7 days later. Arthropod Management Tests, 2007. 66 0 Untreated THE IMPORTANCE OF ROTATING CHEMISTRY CLASSES Repeated use of the same class of insecticide to control a pest can cause resistance. Sound resistance management techniques should be practiced with insecticide use as to not build up resistance on your course. A great way to maximize the power of insecticides and reduce the risk of resistance is to rotate different chemistry classes from year to year or on different portions of the course. EXAMPLE INSECTICIDE ROTATION: Year 1 Use Arena on front 9 holes and another insecticide on the back 9 holes Year 2 Use other insecticide on front 9 holes and Arena on the back 9 holes GET THE MOST FROM YOUR INSECTICIDE: Rotate insecticides with different modes of action Use tank mixtures with insecticides from different groups when permitted Use enough water volume to penetrate the thatch layer Properly maintain and calibrate equipment Use as part of an IPM program that includes scouting and record keeping 4 Nufarm Turf Solutions 2016 5

TURF FUNGICIDES Tourney EXCEPTIONAL BROAD-SPECTRUM CONTROL OF TOUGH TURFGRASS DISEASES IN ONE OF THE MOST ACTIVE, LOW USE RATE FUNGICIDES ON THE MARKET TURF DISEASE CONTROL CHALLENGE Maintaining top quality turf is a tough job. Every season brings new disease challenges for sod farmers and superintendents. In the high value turfgrass market, diseases pose one of the biggest challenges, leaving growers looking for new options for broad-spectrum disease control. NUFARM SOLUTION Tourney fungicide delivers a new generation of broad-spectrum disease control for exceptional turf quality while reducing the overall environmental load. The active ingredient, Group 3 (metconazole), is one of the most active and has the lowest use rate, compared to other demethylation inhibitor (DMI) fungicides. REGISTERED USES Turfgrass on golf courses and sod farms DISEASES CONTROLLED RATES (g/100 m 2 ) DURATION OF CONTROL Anthracnose basal rot 8.4 14 days Anthracnose foliar blight 8.4 14 days Brown patch 8.4-11.2 14 days Dollar spot 8.4-11.2 10-21 days Grey snow mould* 11.2 Pink mould* 11.2 Summer patch 11.2 14-21 days Waitea patch 11.2 14-21 days * For best pink and grey snow mould control, Tourney must be tank mixed with another fungicide active on snow mould (i.e. chorothalonil). BENEFITS Systemic activity works quickly to control a broad spectrum of the toughest turf diseases New generation fungicide delivers exceptional turf quality Low use rates lessen the environmental load PLUS Most active DMI on the market, providing fast, effective and consistent control for 10-21 days Works as a preventative fungicide to prevent spore formation and inhibit mycelial growth Use in a regularly scheduled spray program for optimal disease control and in combination and/or rotation with fungicides that have a different mode of action (not Group 3) PERFORMANCE TIPS Apply as a foliar spray when targeting foliar diseases or as a drench when targeting crown and/or root diseases TOURNEY ACTIVE INGREDIENT > > Group 3 (metconazole 50%) water dispersible granular RAINFAST > > 2 hours TIMING > > Spring: broad-spectrum clean up > > Summer: broad-spectrum control > > Fall: clean up > > Winter: snow mould PACKAGING > > 2.27 kg jug > > One 9.08 kg case treats 1,080 100 m 2 sections or 10.8 ha at the 8.4 g/100 m 2 rate > > 4 jugs in a case NOTES > > No surfactant required > > One application per season Always read and follow label directions. TOURNEY FUNGICIDES SPRING CLEANUP PROGRAM SPRING BROAD-SPECTRUM SPRAY A strategically timed application of Tourney will control up to six key tough diseases, including dollar spot, summer patch, basal rot and foliar blight anthracnose, brown patch and waitea patch. Tourney is xylem-mobile, so a high volume spray targeting soil-borne diseases also protects against foliar disease such as dollar spot and anthracnose. DISEASES CONTROLLED RATES (g/100 m 2 ) DURATION OF CONTROL Anthracnose basal rot 8.4 14 days Anthracnose foliar blight 8.4 14 days Brown patch 8.4-11.2 14 days Dollar spot 8.4-11.2 10-21 days Microdochium nivale 11.2 Summer patch 11.2 14-21 days Waitea patch 11.2 14-21 days For control of these diseases, apply Tourney: At a rate of 8.4-11.2 g/100 m 2 When conditions favour disease development Using a high volume of water (8-16 L of water/100 m 2 ) Early Season Dollar Spot Control SUMMER USE Anthracnose Control Anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum cereale, can be a severe disease on Poa annua and bentgrass greens and fairways. Anthracnose survives on dead and decaying organic matter and becomes pathogenic when grass is stressed. Two forms of anthracnose are known: basal rot and foliar. Basal rot anthracnose is more destructive and is prevalent during cool, wet periods in spring. Foliar anthracnose is common during stressful summer conditions. Tourney fungicide is an ideal component of an anthracnose prevention program, due to its systemic activity within the plant and its highly active chemistry. TOURNEY DELIVERS Outstanding control of anthracnose plus a broad spectrum of other tough-to-control turf diseases such as dollar spot, brown spot, summer patch, waitea patch (brown ring patch) and more Exceptional turf quality Very low use rates = easier handling and application INFORMATION TARGET DISEASES RATE TIMING Anthracnose basal rot Anthracnose foliar blight Apply in 8 L of water/100 m2 for foliar blight, and 8-16 L of water/100 m 2 for basal rot 8.4 g/100 m 2 Use preventively when conditions favour disease development This is the most important dollar spot spray of the season. By applying early, the primary inoculum of the dollar spot pathogen is reduced, which delays the development of an epidemic until mid-summer when dollar spot naturally goes dormant due to high temperatures. For an early season dollar spot program, apply Tourney: At a rate of 8.4-11.2 g/100 m 2 Apply in 8 L of water/100 m 2 Apply when conditions favour disease development 10 Nufarm Turf Solutions 2016 11

TOURNEY FUNGICIDES FALL CLEANUP Over the course of the summer, higher temperatures cause considerable turf stress above and below the surface significantly weakening the plant s root system and, in turn, increasing turf susceptibility to disease outbreaks. Intense heat stress can cause your root systems to go into full retreat and can get down to ¼" of functional root or less in mid-summer. Full root/turf recovery is delayed by additional stresses such as disease. Cooler temperatures alone aren t enough to help root systems recover from the stress induced by oppressive heat and humidity. Fungicides are essential to maintain and protect plant health. SUMMER TURF/ROOT STRESS = FALL DISEASE SUSCEPTIBILITY SPRING FALL Fall disease susceptibilty TOURNEY As higher temperatures stress turf, the root system becomes shallower as carbohydrates are lost, and the plant becomes stressed, making it particularly susceptible to disease infestations. As important as it is to protect turfgrass roots from undue stress, it is likewise critical to help them during the recovery process. Don t back down just because temperatures relax. Superintendents should be applying fungicides throughout this whole period because it is critical to maintain programs now for disease protection, which puts root systems back on the path to recovery for the following spring. A late season application of Tourney cleans up a wide variety of diseases, including anthracnose and brown patch, the final season application can also help take down inoculum levels and delay the reappearance of key diseases until later in the season (e.g. dollar spot). NEXT SPRING FUNGICIDE Fall = ideal Tourney application timing to protect stressed/susceptible turf + set up for a successful following spring APPLY TOURNEY Apply at a rate of 8.4-11.2 g/100 m 2 With 8-16 L of water/100 m 2 As the last spray of the season to help protect disease-susceptible turf and clean up remaining summer and fall diseases as listed on the product label FALL BEST PRACTICES TIPS FOR REDUCING LATE SEASON TURF STRESS Adherence to fungicide programs (especially late-season sprays) Increase mowing heights Strict water management water deeply and infrequently but don t overwater Syringing greens Use fans to improve air circulation continue use of fans if humidity persists Limiting play or even closing a course for a couple days Limit use of heavy machinery Increasing nutrition to the plant Avoid topdressing until temperatures ease Delay core aerification until later in the season To help get a good head start on the next season, be sure to evaluate your existing fungicide program. Now is the time to evaluate and revise your program to better manage diseases lapses and breakthroughs. FALL CLEANUP SPRAY The end of the season is time to start preparing for the following season. Tourney, applied as a cleanup spray in the fall, will help clean up lingering tough disease infections and reduce disease potential the following spring. Tourney has the highest activity in its class and delivers superior control of a broad spectrum of tough diseases, providing superintendents with peace of mind and top quality turf. 12 Nufarm Turf Solutions 2016 13

TOURNEY FUNGICIDES SNOW MOULD CONTROL Snow mould occurs during periods of cold weather but is not limited to snow-covered turf, as the name implies. Snow mould has been observed year-round in cool, humid regions, and nearly all turfgrass species are susceptible. Snow mould can be known as microdochium patch or pink snow mould and typhula blight or grey snow mould. Tourney fungicide is an integral component for a proven and consistent snow mould control program. TOURNEY DELIVERS Snow mould control, even under high disease pressure Excellent turf quality the following spring Broad-spectrum control of snow moulds, both microdochium patch and Typhula spp. GREY SNOW MOULD BARRIE, ON % Control 100 80 60 40 20 0 Untreated Metconazole 11.2 g Chlorothalonil Metconazole 303 g + Chlorothalonil 11.2 g + 303 g GREY SNOW MOULD HORSESHOE VALLEY, ON % Control 100 80 60 40 20 0 Untreated Metconazole 11.2 g Chlorothalonil Metconazole 303 g + Chlorothalonil 11.2 g + 303 g INFORMATION For snow mould control, the recommended use rate of Tourney is 11.2 g/100 m 2. TURF HERBICIDES Velocity SP THE ONLY POST-EMERGENT HERBICIDE THAT SELECTIVELY REDUCES ANNUAL BLUEGRASS POPULATIONS THE ANNUAL BLUEGRASS CHALLENGE Annual bluegrass (Poa annua), commonly known as Poa, is found on many golf courses and has a number of attributes that make it unappealing to turf managers. There are many ecotypes of annual bluegrass that each grow at different rates and when mixed with creeping bentgrass can contribute to uneven playing surfaces, create management challenges and increase overwintering risks. Transitioning annual bluegrass out of fairways and tees can be a tough task. NUFARM SOLUTION Velocity SP herbicide is the best way to convert Poa-infested turf back to creeping bentgrass. A post-emergent herbicide, Velocity gives golf course superintendents an effective way to make a gradual transition from annual bluegrass infested turf to pure stands of creeping bentgrass. In addition, Velocity provides secondary benefits by suppressing dollar spot and controlling other pesky broadleaf weeds. REGISTERED USES * Creeping bentgrass Kentucky bluegrass Perennial ryegrass Tall fescue * Golf course and sod farms only Common use scenarios, refer to label for specifics. Always read and follow label directions. Velocity is a registered trademark of Valent U.S.A. Corporation. CONTROLS Annual bluegrass (Poa annua) Dollar spot (suppression) Dandelion (suppression) White clover (suppression) BENEFITS The only option available in Canada for golf courses and sod farms to remove annual bluegrass Selectively reduces the presence of Poa with certain species of turf including creeping bentgrass, perennial ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue Part of a programmed approach to gradually transition Poa-infested turf back to pure stands ANNUAL BLUEGRASS CONVERSION PROGRAMS Velocity can be applied at regular intervals, to turf of any age, to gradually transition annual bluegrass from the desired turf species. Determine the program for Velocity based on the severity of the Poa infestation and desired transitioning timing. With Velocity, application timing is crucial. We recommend a gradual transition and have found the scenarios below provide transition at comfortable rates.
