HELLO from all of us at Living Flame THE RHODE ISLAND PIT FIRE RANGE So you want a little something special for your yard. We ve created these with you in mind (Besides, being inside is boring!) We go to great lengths to create, manufacture and distribute the finest range of fires, with innovative design form and function, and unique benefits to complement any surroundings. So to get the best out of your new Living Flame Rhode Island Pit Fire range, it really must be installed in accordance with these guidelines. For trouble-free, safe installation and operation, please read the following information carefully. Failure to follow these instructions can cause ongoing problems, and may void your warranties. We ve tried to smooth the way as much as possible to make the whole thing easy for you. So have a read, light your new fire, sit back and enjoy. A THE REALLY IMPORTANT BITS WARNING: Please read all the instructions carefully before operating your new fireplace All Gas fireplaces should be operated BY ADULTS ONLY. Keep children at a safe distance at all times DO NOT allow children or pets near fireplace when burning. To ensure safe use, you must carefully read and adhere to ALL of the manufacturer s instructions. These instructions should be kept for reference for as long as you own the fireplace and should be provided to anyone planning to use this fire pit. Keep clothing, furniture, draperies and other combustibles away. Only use an extended lighter or long match to ignite. Never attempt to ignite with any other device. NEVER LEAVE A BURNING FIREPLACE UNATTENDED. Never attempt to move the fireplace while it is lit (burning) or is still hot. Never place any objects in the fireplace or near the flame (flammable or non-flammable). KEEP FLAMMABLE OBJECTS AT LEAST 4 FT AWAY FROM FIREPLACE WHILE LIT OR HOT. Know where your shut off valves are located before operating your pit fire WARNING: IF YOU SMELL GAS Do not try to light any other gas appliances Do not use any electrical appliances or switches Do not use the telephone in your home Turn off the gas supply to your house at the gas meter shut off valve, or shut the valves off at your gas bottle(s) location Call your local gasfitter from your neighbours house - PAGE 5 -

B OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS for the Rhode Island Fire Pit Range Keep this user manual carefully for the life of this product. The product is only to be used in combination with this manual. Please read the instructions carefully before putting your Living Flame Brooklyn fire to use SAFETY WARNINGS A. This appliance can be lit electronically or with a gas match. When lighting, follow these instructions exactly. B. Before lighting, smell all around the appliance area for gas. Be sure to smell next to the base of the appliance as some gases can be heavier than air and will settle to the floor WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS: Do not try to light any appliance. Do not touch any electrical switch, do not use any phone nearby Immediately leave the property and contact your local gasfitter C. Use only your hand to turn the gas control knob, never use tools. If the control knob won t turn by hand, call a qualified service technician. Force or attempted repair can result in additional damage D. Do not use the appliance if any part has been under water. Immediately call a qualified service technician to inspect the appliance and replace or repair any part which has been under water LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Depress button on ignitor and verify a spark is being produced between the electrode tip and receiving probe 2. Turn the gas control knob to the on position 3. Depress the ignitor button and continue holding button, then depress the blue gas flow button. Once the burner has lit, release the ignitor button, but continue holding the blue gas flow button for a further 15 seconds 4. Release the blue gas flow button and the flame should continue EXTINGUISHING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Turn the gas control knob to the OFF position. If using a portable LPG bottle, it s best to also turn off the bottle. INITIAL USAGE PROCEDURE When you first light the appliance, you may notice that it produces heat which may have an odour. It may require 3 to 4 hours continuous burn for the odour to stop. - PAGE 6 -

E INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for the Rhode Island Fire Pit Range This appliance is a Decorative Gas Appliance for OUTDOOR USE ONLY & MUST NOT be used for cooking. Place the pit fire on a flat, stable surface in an outdoor location, such as a patio or a deck. This location must be adjacent to the gas supply line or LPG bottle location. DO NOT locate the appliance where it will get excessively wet or submerged in water. Place the pit fire on a flat, stable surface in an outdoor location, such as a patio or a deck. Follow these instructions carefully during installation to ensure the maximum safety and benefit LOCATION REFER TO SIZING DRAWING NON COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL 330mm VENTILATION & DRAINAGE NEED TO BE PROVIDED AT BASE OF THE STRUCTURE Position the burner in the desired location. This location must be adjacent to the gas supply line. You must have easy access to the control box, within 600mm of the burner, after installation and connection because the ON/OFF valve is used to turn the burner on and off The burner should be positioned in such a way that the burner can always be lifted to access the controls beneath - PAGE 9 -

F OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS for the Rhode Island Fire Pit Range GLASS/LAVA ROCK INSTALLATION Spread glass/lava rock evenly over the burner area. Use all glass/lava rock provided for best effect. Keep the glass clear of the Spark Electrode and Thermocouple to avoid accidental blockage. LOG INSTALLATION Position logs over the glass/lava rock base, taking care not to touch any Spark Electrode and Thermocouple to avoid accidental blockage. DO NOT BURN WITHOUT GLASS OR LAVA ROCK IN THE BURNER FUEL Before making the gas connection, ensure the appliance being installed is compatible with the available gas type GAS PRESSURE Proper input pressure is required for optimum performance. Gas line sizing requirements need to be made following ASNZS5601 Pressure requirements for appliances are shown in the table below. Minimum pressure must be met when other household gas appliances are operating CORRECTIVE ACTIONS NATURAL GAS PROPANE Minimum Outlet Pressure 2 KPA 2.5 KPA Minimum Inlet Pressure 4 KPA 4 KPA - PAGE 10 -

F OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS for the Rhode Island Fire Pit Range Incoming gas should be piped to the 10mm Soft Copper pipe on the manual shutoff valve GAS SETUP Spread glass/lava rock evenly over the burner area. Use all glass/lava rock provided for best effect. Keep the glass clear of the Spark Electrode and Thermocouple to avoid accidental blockage. With the burner and control fitted at their locations, attach the gas supply to the incoming gas supply feed on the rear of the control box, checking that the 10mm Soft Copper flare fitting is secured firmly, using 2 wrenches. Locate the metal flex-line gas hose and tighten securely to the outgoing gas supply feed on the rear of the control box, using 2 wrenches. A. Securely tighten the flare nut on the free end of the flex-line gas hose to the orifice on the burner. For LPG installations, the air shutter should be left open setting. To adjust, loosen the small securing screw and rotate the air shutter. Closing the air shutter will produce more yellow flame but may also cause soot. Connect the sensitive thermocouple end to the rear of the blue gas flow button, using the split nut adaptor. Plug the black sparker wire into the ignitor box. Unscrew the front of the ignitor button and fit an AAA battery. Reassemble the button and test. Flare Nut Venturi/Air Shutter Orifice B. You should see a spark at the spark electrode. There should be a 1-2m gap between sparker and electrode. CHECK ENTIRE SYSTEM FOR LEAKS BEFORE OPERATING. Test the appliance operation using the steps found in Lighting Instructions, & check again for leaks. 1-2mm - PAGE 11 -

G TROUBLE SHOOTING TABLE for the Rhode Island Fire Pit Range SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTIONS Crystal Fire won t light. A No LP in tank, or NG main not turned on. Check the LP (propane) tank. You may be out of gas. Or check Natural Gas valve at main. B Plugged burner orifice. Check the burner orifice for stoppage, Remove stoppage. Low flames or won t stay lit. A Manual shutoff valve (on/off control knob) open or not in-stalled between LP tank and appliance. Close LP tank and manual shutoff valves. Open LP tank valve first, THEN the manual shutoff valve. Blue flames. A This is a result of normal operation and flames will begin to yellow as unit is allowed to burn for 16-29 minutes. Do nothing. B Improper air/fuel mixture related to air shutter position. Close air shutter. (for LP, leave 1/4 open, Natural Gas 1/16 open) Metallic noise. A Noise is caused by metal expanding and contracting as it heats up and cools down, similar to the sound produced by a furnace or heating duct. This noise does not affect the operation or longevity of the appliance. Do nothing. Decorative Beads cracking or splitting. A Heat and/or abrupt temperature changes. This is a property of gas and may happen occasionally. Do nothing. This is completely normal. A Sparker is improperly grounded. Refer to section F, page 11 for grounding instructions. Check all wire connections. Sparker makes clicking sound but no visible spark is produced. B C Ignition or ground wire not plugged in. Ignitor tip set too far from grounding probe. Check that tip of sparker is within 1/4 of grounding probe. Gently bend ignitor tip or grounding probe by hand to achieve a smaller gap. - PAGE 12 -

H SERVICING GUIDELINES for the Rhode Island Fire Pit Range SERVICING This appliance should be serviced and checked annually, by a qualified service technician, in adherence with House Insurance policies. The use of a cover is highly recommended to keep your appliance looking new and ensuring extended, trouble-free operation. MAINTENANCE AND SERVICES TASKS TABLE For service calls: Contact the dealer your product was purchased from first. Contact Living Flame at info@livingflame.co.nz if further assistance is needed. INSPECT MAINTENANCE TASKS 1 Remove decorative glass and examine burner. Vacuum and wipe out as needed. Use caution when cleaning these areas. Burner Assembly 2 Inspect for warping and corrosion. Repair as necessary. 3 Check the hose connecting the LP gas cylinder to ensure it is not damaged. Replace as necessary. 4 Verify air shutter areas is clean. 1 Verify all gas connections are tight and leak-free. 2 Clean burner top, inspect for plugged ports, corrosion, or deterioration. Replace burner if necessary. Burner Ignition and Operation 3 Inspect for flame problems. 4 Verify air shutter is clear of dust and debris and is in correct position for the gas type being used. 5 Inspect orifice for soot, dirt, or corrosion. 6 Verify manifold and inlet pressures. Adjust regulator as required. Gas Hose with Regulator 1 The gas hose with regulator supplied with appliance must be used for LP installations. The replacement must be those specified by the appliance manufacturer. - PAGE 13 -

I WARRANTY for the Rhode Island Fire Pit Range FIRE SURE LIFETIME BODY GUARANTEE, ONE YEAR BURNER ASSEMBLY AND CONTROL COVER, ONE YEAR LABOUR COVER, THREE MONTH PAINT COVER Inbuilt Fireplace bodies are constructed for a minimum working life of 15 years when installed in compliance with ASNZS5601, C1 Outbreak of Fire & manufacturer s installation, operating and maintenance instructions. FIRE SURE LIFETIME BODY GUARANTEE This is a Fire Sure Lifetime Replacement Guarantee that covers the fireplace body manufactured or imported by Living Flame Fires and only covers the replacement of the fire body where an irreparable defect, due to material or manufacturing failure, occurs within the lifetime of the fire. The Fire Sure Lifetime Body Guarantee does not cover faults caused by incorrect installation, incorrect commissioning or misuse, and the fire should be installed and maintained in compliance with the guarantee and all conditions of the guarantee fulfilled. ONE YEAR BURNER COVER This is a One Year Replacement Guarantee that covers the Outdoor Greatroom or Living Flame burner parts used in the manufacturing of a Living Flame Fire. The manufacturer only covers the replacement of a burner part where an irreparable defect, due to material or manufacturing failure, occurs within the first year from date of supply by Living Flame. THREE MONTH PAINT COVER This is a Three Month Guarantee covering the painted surface of the pit fire. It is a warranty against paint peeling and flaking off during normal use of the fire. It excludes discolouration as this is a normal property of the painted surface when heated by the flames. It also excludes any scratching of the painted surface that may occur at the time of installation. It is the responsibility of the installer to touch up any paint surfaces if necessary as it is part of a normal installation service. This does not affect the running of the fire but is aesthetically pleasing to have done. Please check with your annual service provider. - PAGE 14 -

I WARRANTY for the Rhode Island Fire Pit Range EXCLUSION FROM GUARANTEE This Fireplace Replacement Guarantee excludes any costs associated with the removal or replacement on site of the fireplace at the owner s request, required for finishing work or refurbishment work to the fireplace. This guarantee is only valid when the fire has been installed in New Zealand. INSTALLATION Living Flame Fireplaces must be installed to comply with: New Zealand Standards and Building Codes where relevant; Living Flame Installation Instructions; Living Flame Operating Instructions; Living Flame Maintenance Instructions. Living Flame Fireplaces must be installed free from dampness and free from corrosive elements. GUARANTEE AND WARRANTY VALIDITY Guarantee claims will only be considered when completed by a Living Flame approved serviceperson in accordance with Living Flame procedures. OPERATING Living Flame Fireplaces must be operated in accordance with Living Flame Operating Instructions. Living Flame Fireplaces should be used only for the burning of the correct gas: The type of gas to be used should be specified at the time of ordering the unit. Living Flame Fireplaces must only be operated once they has been installed to Living Flame s installation instructions. DOMESTIC USERS Living Flame Fireplaces should be inspected, cleaned, serviced and re-commissioned at least once yearly throughout the lifetime of the fire to maintain the guarantee. COMMERCIAL USERS Living Flame Fireplaces should be inspected, cleaned, serviced and re-commissioned at least twice yearly throughout the lifetime of the fire to maintain the guarantee This Guarantee should be kept in a safe place along with the operating Instructions. - PAGE 15 -
