Modern Life SCP Collection Modern Life is a presentation of new SCP designs from Matthew Hilton, Philippe Malouin, Reiko Kaneko, Lucy Kurrein, Faudet Harrison, Donna Wilson and Hannah Waldron. It also features some of SCP s most popular products, both recent and classic. The photographs of the new designs are situated in a special kind of English country retreat. Built in 1960, on a site overlooking an estuary in Suffolk, it is modernist architecture at its most modest. A building created with relaxation and fun in mind. SCP is a London based manufacturer of contemporary furniture, accessories, lighting and textiles. Established in 1985 by Sheridan Coakley, the company is guided by the modernist idea that design can transform the world around us. We make armchairs and sofas at our specialist upholstery factory in Norfolk, using renewable materials, traditional techniques and highly skilled craftsmen. All of our other products are made by a select group of makers and manufacturers across the UK and Europe. At SCP, products are created to be functional, beautiful and made to last. Working closely with our designers, creativity is kept at the heart of all we do.
Modern Life SCP Collection Continuous Faudet-Harrison Tepee Lucy Kurrein Oscar Matthew Hilton Miles Matthew Hilton Taking some inspiration from upholstery designs of the 1920s, this sofa is notable for the use of continuous curves and a straight line sewn lengthways down the middle of the piece. The seat is deep and has a pleasing line detail stitched into it. A sophisticated piece that offers a number of possibilities in configuration. With a fixed or feather seat, legs in natural or walnut stained oak, or in bronze plated tubular steel. A design that is inspired by the simplicity of the hammock, the possibilities of strong industrial fabrics and the tactile elegance of high fashion. It is a design that works with the natural behaviour of fabric, rather than against it. With a solid oak or walnut frame and cylindrical legs, elasticated webbed base, a heavy cotton canvas sling enveloping the frame and pure feather seat and back cushions. A sofa that strikes a pleasing balance between modernity and tradition, large in size yet light in appearance. It features two large feather cushions that are notable for their depth, while the back has a line of sewn in pulls, lending the sofa the appearance of a buttoned back, without the actual buttons. The feet are made from walnut stained beech. Available with two different seat heights and in other configurations. A sofa system created for comfort and adaptability, the design of which allows for numerous different configurations. Made from a solid beech and birch ply frame, with webbed seat and backs. It is upholstered with multi-density foams and quilted feather wrap. It is supported on stained ash wooden rails and joined together with metal brackets. Miles offers the option of two seat widths and arm heights, and seats without arms. Orlando Reiko Kaneko Group Philippe Malouin Trieste Matthew Hilton Yumi Reiko Kaneko Sax Terence Woodgate Calvo Lee Kirkbride A lounge chair and ottoman that has a tubular steel frame in black powder coated or chrome plated finish, with walnut or oak arm rests, an upholstered backrest and a webbed beech seat base with a feather and foam cushion. The design has a small footprint, yet noticeably generous proportions. The frame has a gentle curving detail between the back and arm rests. A small amount of flex in the back of the frame adds to its comfort. A compact occasional upholstered chair with a small footprint that revolves on a black powder coated steel swivel base. The design uses primary shapes in a concise way to form the base, back and seat. The frame is made from solid beech and birch plywood. The seat base is webbed and has a seat and lumbar cushion made from feather and foam. A free standing library shelving unit of good style and line. Made from solid American walnut, it is available in two sizes that can be used in any number of combinations. It works equally well as a room divider or against a wall. Trieste is a design of real refinement. It has a faceted wooden frame, inlaid shelves and felt feet. An elegant chandelier made from anodised silver or gold aluminium tubes, machined components and bone china light shades. It is available in two, four or six shade configurations and is suspended using black braided cord from an anodised aluminium ceiling rose. The bone china shades are made in Stoke-on-Trent and are available in natural finish, or with hand gilded gold or platinum rims. G9 lamp holder. A very practical, understated and refined design. The Sax coffee table is made from chrome or bronze plated steel legs and two sheets of toughened 12mm clear glass. A simple, utilitarian example of the classic modernist principles. A side table that lends itself to a variety of settings and a number of uses. The tilted stem and three point base allow the design to sit closer and more comfortably next to an armchair, sofa or bed. Delicate detailing and visual balance define this piece. Oak or walnut with a natural oil finish. The table is in the form of a letter-z, and is raw, heavy and unyielding. The design is pressed into shape and has a hand textured natural finish with noticeable temper marks. SCP Permanent Collection SCP has been making new designs every year since 1985, we therefore possess an extensive archive of products from some of the most pre-eminent designers of the era. Here we present a selection of enduring SCP designs, some classic, some more recent, all designed and made with longevity in mind. Upholstered Furniture We make our armchairs and sofas at our specialist upholstery factory in Norfolk, using renewable materials, traditional techniques and highly skilled craftsmen. These include the fully upholstered Solstice sofa by Matthew Hilton, the high-backed wood framed Rochester sofa by Michael Anastassiades and a range of colourful occasional seating Pouffes by Donna Wilson. Furniture Created by deft design and drafting, highly-skilled makers and the application of advanced manufacturing techniques, SCP furniture is modern, lasting and timeless. All designs are made by a select group of specialist manufacturers across the UK and Europe. Designs include the Side tables and Slatted stool by Jasper Morrison, the Peggy table system by PearsonLloyd and the Cedric desk by Kay and Stemmer. Our two key storage designs are the one-piece Agnes shelving system by Kay and Stemmer, and the Parallel shelving system by Terence Woodgate. Accessories SCP make smaller, more accessible designs that can be used all around the home. We use high-calibre British and European factories to produce anything from coat-racks to candelabras. Subtle, refined and quietly confident, this collection of accessories is about humble design for real life.
