Texas Tornado 5K Run/Walk & 1K Kids Fun Run Benefitting the Tornado Survivors in Garland and Copeville, Texas Through Partnership with Good Samaritans of Garland Dear Potential Partner: February 8, 2016 You are respectfully invited to be a sponsor for the Texas Tornado 5K Run/Walk benefitting the recovery and rebuilding efforts of tornado survivors in the Garland and Copeville communities. The City of Garland estimates recovery and rebuilding will continue for 18 months during which time survivors will need assistance with temporary housing, minor house repairs, food and other storm-related expenses. In addition to homes being damaged or destroyed many cars have been rendered unusable, causing a disruption in meeting family needs and wage-earning potential. Perhaps hardest hit are survivors whose homes were also used for a home-based business. Would you join us in a community-wide show of support for our families affected by the tornado by becoming a sponsor for the Texas Tornado 5K Run/Walk & 1K Kids Fun Run? Your sponsorship will show your support for, and provide financial assistance to, many families in the rebuilding process. Locally-founded and supported Good Samaritans of Garland, Inc. is the 5K non-profit partner assisting storm survivors with monies raised from sponsorship and race participants. Good Sam meets with each survivor to assess and provide assistance with immediate needs and to offer additional avenues for long-term-recovery. Good Sam is a full-service pantry (meat, produce, dairy and dry goods) and offers GP&L and TXU utility assistance. For survivors who have been displaced and living in hotels, microwavable food is provided. In addition, gift cards are available to help with emergency needs such as prescriptions, gasoline or personal needs. Here are a few facts from the Garland City Press Special Edition, February 2016, of how impactful the tornado was to our communities: 1137 properties inspected and damaged assessed: 127 uninhabitable/destroyed 132 restricted 219 unsafe 400 considered to have some affected/minor/major damage City and community response through January 10 (initial response phase): 200+ Garland firefighters and police officers responded to the strike zone 25 agencies involved as first responders from other cities/entities 600+ City employees responded to impact zone, EOC and other support sites 106 City employees staffing the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Disaster Resource Center (JDMRC) and Gale Fields Shelter 44 people from 20 agencies offered non-city support to the EOC and JDMRC through January 10, representing a value of $46,053 of no charge to the City of Garland 4,612 volunteer registered to support recovery 76 nonprofits and other agencies supporting recovery 812 homes/3,007 individuals served at JDMRC starting Dec 29 281 needs met through Garlandtx.Recovers.org

We are now in the long-term-recovery phase with new needs to be met. Will you help us continue the outpouring of support by initial responders with your sponsorship? Together is THE Beginning Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions. 469-831-6844 (Vicky) or 512-629-9846 (Clarence Hosey) texastornado5krun@gmail.com We look forward to speaking with you at your earliest convenience.
