MT OUR RN of unvented products s we plan and prepare this, the new edition of our corporate sales catalogue I realise five years have now passed since we produced our first cylinder under the RM ylinders banner. The last five years have passed so quickly in an absolute whirlwind of activity, it seeming only yesterday we proudly shipped our first cylinder to the customer. Our initial product offering of open vented copper cylinders has quickly been complimented by the readily accepted addition of the quastel stainless steel open vented cylinder bringing traditional storage systems right up to date with 21st century materials. In the unvented storage sector our popular range of cylinders has grown to include storage up to 600 litres providing an enhanced compatibility in water storage not only with gas, oil and electricity but also with the growing market of solar renewables. Specified demand of the Homeflow, an unvented storage cylinder specifically designed to meet the exacting needs of the new build sector has gratifyingly exceeded our forecasts. Our new unvented cylinder, the Prostel, launched with this edition of the product catalogue will fill a much needed gap in market indicated by our customer research. nother important growth area within our business portfolio is the continued expansion of our valued OM customer base and it is of immense pride for us when such a customer trusts RM to produce products to their exacting design and specification. Made In Stainless MT OUR RN of unvented products RM ylinders manufacture all our unvented units using uplex Stainless Steel where other companies may use lesser grades of Steel. uplex has been chosen due to its substantially higher tensile strength, allowing units to be produced using thinner walls in relation to other materials, this results in a lighter unit. Traditional methods world wide produce products using mild steel with a vitreous enamel lining, this construction maybe on offer in the UK as a cheaper alternative but result in a heavier product with a more stringent servicing regime and a generally shorter lifespan. There are many grades of Stainless Steel on offer in the market with varying degrees of corrosion resistance. RM manufacture the shell using only uplex 2304 Stainless Steel and 316L for coils & bosses, this is seen as a far superior grade, and together with our modern manufacturing process allows us to offer the long product guarantees the market has come to expect from our range of cylinders. This mix of uplex and ustenitic Steels are considered to be the ideal group of metals for hot water tanks, having good fabrication qualities, strength, and excellent resistance to stress and corrosion resistance. Material is however not the full story. Having the best material is just the start, knowing what do with the material is equally as important, which is why we have a butt joined assembly with no overlapping eliminating crevices. When welding our cylinders a backing gas is used to ensure deep welding penetration and a clean internal weld. If the weld is not clean or crevices are present then this may encourage corrosion and weaknesses within the product. Once the welding process has been completed the cylinder is pickled and passivated, this involves coating all internal surfaces of the cylinder with a solution followed by water. This process restores the passive film to all welded areas providing protection against premature corrosion. Our coil in coil Stainless Steel heat exchanger is a technical triumph. Manufactured from one single piece of tube this high efficiency heat exchanger allows the cylinder to heat all the way to the bottom of the tank. 3

System Piping Options... nsuring quality throughout our products Piping in series popular option is, instead of having one large cylinder, to have two small cylinders installed, as a possible solution to limited space in a cupboard. The method of installing cylinders in series is so that the cold mains feeds the first cylinder, and the hot draw off from the first cylinder provides the feed for the second tank. The second tanks hot draw off then provides the hot supply for the property. The supplied combination valve will be installed on the mains inlet to the first cylinder and this is also where expansion vessel for both cylinders are connected. Piping in parallel or situations when very high flow rates or larger volumes of hot water storage are needed, units of two or more can be linked in parallel. When connecting two units in parallel, individual cold feeds are taken to each cylinder and then hot draw offs are connected together. Subject to the size of the incoming cold mains the flow rate available effectively doubles. The need for this piping situation will arise according to the demand for hot water which will vary considerably between types of buildings and activities taking place there. 4

RM Mainsboost & harger Unit... Improving flow rates & pressure on any system Unvented cylinders rely on reasonable mains pressure and flow rates to provide adequate performance at the taps. In some instances water demand is so high the water supply networks struggle to provide the water flow and pressure necessary, which has a significant impact on the performance of showers and taps. This problem can be overcome in two ways. irstly using the RM Mainsboost accumulator to improve poor flow rates, and the RM harger unit to boost pressure. The fully patented RM Mainsboost increases flow by being charged by the incoming mains supply and then awaits discharge when water is required at the tap. The RM harger unit, again patented, solves the problem of low water pressure without the need for large, expensive break tanks. This in simple terms, when used with the RM Mainsboost, is a pump that acts as a trickle charger to the accumulator which then acts as the battery storing the pressure for when the water is required. These systems encompass all the benefits of stored unvented hot water in a Stainless Steel vessel while using plate to plate heat transfer to give exceptional performance. The system is built around a specially designed ylinder which still comes with a 25 year guarantee. Most indirect cylinders are designed for use with space heating boilers and their heat exchanger coils are optimised for primary flow temperatures in the region of 80 o. When using heat pumps the maximum available primary flow temperatures are often well below this level. The majority of ir Source and round Source heat pumps will only give a maximum flow temperature of around 50 o, some will go up to 60 o but this is usually accompanied by a fall in the coefficient of performance (OP) to a level where the overall efficiency may be significantly compromised. or traditional boiler applications the most popular form of heat exchanger is the coil type. In the main these coils are unsuitable to cope with the lower flow temperatures and the cyclical way in which Heat Pumps operate. The plate heat exchanger method offers a viable solution, which still allows for the delivery of mains pressure hot water from a stainless steel, 25 year guaranteed vessel. 16
