What fire is right for my home? All gas fires require a chimney or flue to conduct expended gases to the exterior. To identify which type your house has and which model of fire will fit (slimline, mid-depth or deepline), check the simple descriptions below. Still unsure? Your Elgin & Hall retailer will be happy to advise. Brick chimney (class 1) Easily recognisable from the stack above the roofline (usually with a pot or gas terminal), with this chimney you can install all our gas fires. pre-fabricated flue (class 2) Identifiable by a metal flue and terminal on the roof, this flue system is suitable for all our gas fires. PRE-CAST FLUE Recognisable by a ridge vent on the roofline, and built from concrete or clay blocks usually within the wall cavity, they are perfect for our Catalina or Radion* gas fires. 4 * Radion fire suitable when installed with a 75mm rebated surround

Smartslide Control - All models The discreet Smartslide Control mounted at the top right hand side makes your Elgin & Hall gas fire convenient to operate. To turn the fire on simply press down and release. Likewise you can turn the fire off by lifting to its top position. The control s second function is to regulate the flame height and heat output. It gives you the freedom to change the fire picture from smouldering to blazing at a touch to suit your mood and desired room temperature. Super controllable Manual Control - Catalina, Radion and Cobalt only All our open fronted gas fires are available as manual control. Neatly concealed behind the fret, these controls allow you to regulate your heat output and flame setting before replacing the fret for a sleek finish. Safety assurance... Quality APPROVED You have the peace of mind knowing that all Elgin & Hall gas fires are made in accordance with Quality Management System Standard ISO 9001, the stringent, internationally recognised standard for quality and environmental performance. Flame Failure Device All Elgin & Hall gas fires are fitted with a flame monitoring device which ensures that in the event of the flame going out during its operation, the gas supply to the fire is instantly cut off. Oxygen depletion sensor For your safety, all Elgin & Hall gas fires are fitted with an Oxygen Depletion Sensor whose function is to shut off the gas supply if the oxygen level is too low in the room or if there is a blockage in the chimney or flue. Installation Current regulations stipulate that all gas fire installations must be carried out by a Registered Gas Safe Engineer. For information and advice on a Gas Safe Engineer, please contact your local Elgin & Hall retailer. SERVICING We recommend that all gas fires are serviced by a Registered Gas Safe Engineer to ensure continued operation and optimum performance. This annual service is a condition of our 5 year guarantee, and you must be able to show a record of approved servicing to be able to make a claim. 5

Because they are open fronted, these fires give a clear impression of a traditional open fire. The output is around 3.5kW so the room is nice and warm. An open fronted fire that sends out a hot airstream through the canopy to circulate warmth throughout the room. A panel of ceramic glass across the front of the fire prevents air being drawn in then up the flue, so a very high proportion of the fire s radiant and convected heat is concentrated into the room - consuming less fuel to achieve an output better than an open fronted fire. 6

The spacer kit fits to the rear of the fire and reduces the depth by 25mm. It is ideal for use with pre-cast flues where sufficient space may not be available. Handle options are available for all fires. An easy grip attachment allows people with restricted movement to control the ignition and heat settings. Exclusive or Devotion Select your trim style and finish Exclusive Trim The framework of the Exclusive trim has a flat facing and long bevel, sloping down to the fire bed. The trim is broad and slightly accented in profile to complement the four boldly curving bands of the fret. Caring For Your Fire: Our range of gas fires have been designed to provide you with a clean and efficient heat source as well as years of hassle-free operation. To ensure your fire provides you with maximum enjoyment we have provided the following guidelines for caring for your fire. Be Modern Group of companies 1. Only use a Gas Safe Engineer to fit or service your gas fire. 2. Never attempt to remove or service the gas fire yourself. 3. Your gas fire should be regularly serviced and safety checked every year. 4. If you think there might be a gas leak or notice any signs of carbon monoxide, act quickly and follow the advice for gas emergencies. 5. If you are in any doubt regarding your gas fire, speak to a Gas Safe Engineer or contact your local fireplace retailer for assistance. Cleaning Your Fire: Double-check to make sure the gas fire is in the off position. Always make sure the fire and all of the components are cool before you attempt to clean your gas fire. Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove any dust or debris around the gas fire. Use a soft brush to remove any dirt or dust from the coals. The coals are extremely fragile so use caution. Check for corrosion or damage. If you believe any of the coals are damaged, call your local retailer who will be able to provide replacement coals. Do not use the fire until the coals have been replaced. The outside of the fire can be cleaned using a clean cloth. Wipe any dirt or dust from the trim and fret. Do not use abrasive or corrosive cleaners as these may damage the fire. Periodic cleaning will help keep the fire looking at its best. Glass fronted fires can be cleaned with a soft cloth removing any dust and dirt. Do not spray the glass with cleaning fluid as overspray may land on the surrounding metal or coals causing damage. Do not attempt to clean any of the internal parts of the fire this must be done by a Gas Safe Engineer. 22
