The 12th annual Q for conservation the land through my eyes october 18, 2018 History Colorado center Denver, colorado

About COLorado open lands Colorado Open Lands was founded in 1981 by a group of bi-partisan business and community leaders dedicated to preserving the open lands that define Colorado and the American West. We work with landowners and communities to protect Colorado s remaining wild and working lands, and in doing so, conserve the places and resources that support abundant fish and wildlife, thriving rural economies, epic recreation experiences, and that preserve our Western culture and way of life. Colorado Open Lands is one of Colorado s most trusted, experienced, and successful conservation organizations and the only statewide land trust able to work without geographic, specific land-use, or acreage restrictions. We are grounded by our values of integrity, creativity, inspiration, and collaborative leadership. About the Q for Conservation Q for Conservation is Colorado Open Lands premier annual celebration of those who care about land conservation in Colorado. The event features a private cocktail reception and dinner, an inspiring program highlighting the work of Colorado Open Lands, and a special presentation by a distinguished and thought-provoking member of the conservation community. The audience we reach through event promotion is geographically diverse, is representative of many key Colorado industries, and includes leading local and regional philanthropists. about the keynote speaker Conservation photographer and author Dave Showalter is based in Colorado and focuses on the American West. His images and stories have been published in Audubon, Conservation Biology, Outside, Outdoor Photographer, National Parks Magazine, High Country News, Wilderness, Colorado Life, Crested Butte Magazine, and elsewhere. Dave has published two books - Sage Spirit, The American West at A Crossroads and the award-winning Prairie Thunder. He has been the photographer at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge for ten years, teaching photography to both adults and children. As a conservation photographer, I work to tell photographic stories and combine images with advocacy for conservation. - Dave Showalter

presenting the champion of the land award to the gates family foundation The Champion of the Land award was established to recognize influential individuals and organizations who have demonstrated leadership, foresight, and a strong land ethic, resulting in lasting impacts on our state. Our inaugural recipients, Dean Singleton and Dan Ritchie, laid the foundation for a tradition that has continued with the honoring of Harris D. Sherman, Will Shafroth and Lise Aangeenbrug, and the National Western Stock Show. We are thrilled to announce the recipient of our highest honor, the Gates Family Foundation. As a visionary private conservation funder, the Gates Family Foundation has a unique understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our community. Time and again, they have been willing to invest in ambitious solutions to complex problems. All of us in Colorado are extraordinarily lucky to count the Gates Family Foundation as a friend and ally for land conservation.

Event Details The 12th Annual Q for Conservation will take place on Thursday, October 18th, from 5:30-8:30 pm. We will be returning once again to History Colorado in the museum district of Downtown Denver where we will welcome 350 leaders from Colorado s business, policy, and philanthropic community. The promotion of Q for Conservation reaches 10,000+ distinct households through a combination of print, electronic, and social media.
