Continuous Carousel Filter Dryer 3 From slurry to API in minutes not hours 3 Filters, washes and dries 3 Highly efficient, optimised process Continuous Filtration from AWL
CCFD from AWL The only fully optimised commercially available continuous filtration and drying system! Fexibility to operate in continuous, semi-continuous and batch streams. Automated modes of operation include optimisation and production. Available in Lab-scale, Pilot-scale or Production-scale. Designed for Fine Chemical and Pharmaceutical sectors. Suitable for intermediate and final product. AWL Continuous Filtration Advantages: A complete plant - replacing a traditional 2 to 3 floor batch production facility! Entry to exit cycle time in minutes... not hours! From feasability through optimization to production on a single validateable platform! Filtration, washing and drying in just a few short runs! Key Technology Advantages State-of-the-art vision system improves product purity, yields and qualilty attributes Improved wash efficiency - reduced solvent usage Very high repeatability and consistency of filtration No mechanical agitation damage or crystal shear Reduced energy and waste, lower footprint! Optimization of filtration and washing parameters can be achieved within a few hours and only requires a small sample volume... Minimum Throughput, Maximum Data!
The unit consists of the following major components: Carousel Filtration and Drying Module: Filter capacity 1 kg/hr (Pilot-scale) Full vacuum capability Nitrogen blanketing option Pressure differential slurry transfer minimises particle damage Ability to stop at or just before dry land 0.1 mm heel 2 wash solvents selectable, and solvent exchange Wash solvent dispensed via atomization nozzles preventing disturbance to the cake 1st wash reduces impurities, reducing yield loss 2nd wash displaces solvent, reducing agglomeration and enabling faster drying Vision system controls important parameters Post filtration and washing, the cake can be de-liquored to <15% moisture content Convection drying to sub 1% moisture in minutes Automatic discharge into sealed receptacle, or transfer to subsequent downstream process Industrial standard multilayer filter media from 2 40 microns in 316L or C22 alloy Borosilicate / Polypropylene / 316L Stainless-Steel as standard, other materials available on request
Slurry Buffer Vessel The vessel has two functions: 1. Slurry vessel for holding a set volume of API for a trial 2. Buffer vessel to be placed between a continuous crystalliser/reactor and the continuous filter dryer to allow for planned and non-planned upstream down time Temperature controlled jacketed vessel 1 litre capacity Integrated stirrer head and agitator Automatic level control for feeding from a batch or continuous supply source Nitrogen blanketing option Pressure transfer line into Slurry vessel for quick and easy refilling Solvent Vessels Borosilicate Glass 2 x wash solvent vessels 1 x cleaning fluid vessel Pressure transfer in from solvent tanks Nitrogen blanketing option Securely mounted to stainless steel frame Option to use own supplied winchesters
Filtrate Receivers and Sampling 2 litre filtrate receiver 2 litre drying receiver fitted with condenser (external cooler required) Autodrain facility for continuous running Sample segregation for off-line analysis of filtrate, wash solvents etc
Electric Heated Transfer Lines Drying gas heated by AWL s patented innovative electric heated transfer line Desired jacket operating temperature reached within 15 seconds! Maximum jacket temperature of 100 o C Drying to <1% moisture content achieved within minutes! The unit has the ability to dry in situ or have second external drying stage HMI Control Panel Local HMI or DCS control Compile, store and retreive 100 recipes Auto data population, recal and presentation Full datalogging to allow Darcy plots to be generated and filtration conditions optimised Customer Supplied Utilities: 240V, 50Hz, 10A supply or 110V, 60Hz or 3 phase supply options available Compressed air at 4 6 bar 10 litres/min Vacuum 900mbar at 100 litres/min (free air delivery) Nitrogen Blanket (optional) External cooling system for condenser
Additional Features Easy clean wipe down enclosure 316L - full containment options Automated Clean-in-Place mode: washes the carousel, ports, ejection head without dis-assembly A mobile production platform can be deployed to any location to meet geographical needs/requirements Operating and Capital compared to Batch Operating Reduced solvent usage - Lower operating costs Only one main moving part - Lower maintenance Lab to production scale achievable on a single validated platform Capital Smaller footprint and significant savings Fits into a walk in fume cupboard Potential to manufacture in a non ATEX environment AWL CMAC Partnership CMAC is a world-class international centre for manufacturing research and training. Its vision is to lead the world in crystallisation and the adoption of continuous manufacturing. Working in partnership with industry, its purpose is to transform current manufacturing processes into the medicine supply chain of the future. In 2017, the EPSRC Future Manufacturing Research Hub was launched. This 7 year program, led from the University of Strathclyde, comprises academic investigators and research staff across 7 leading universities. It will deliver predictive design tools and novel integrated continuous processing platforms for the supply of next generation high performance personalised products. For more information visit www.cmac.ac.uk If you would like to test samples in our continuous filtration unit there is a CCFD permanently based at CMAC, operated by a team of experts who can perform a series of feasibility and detailed process optimisation trials.
