Safety Instructions IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS WARNING: To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed, including the following: READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS DANGER: To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be taken since water is employed in the use of reptile habitats. For each of the following situations, do not attempt repairs by yourself; return the heater to an authorized service facility for service or discard the appliance: 1. A. If the appliance falls into the water, DO NOT reach for it! First unplug it and then retrieve it. B. If electrical components of the heater get wet, unplug the heater immediately. C. Carefully examine the heater after installation. It should not be plugged in if there is water on parts not intended to get wet. D. Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is malfunctioning, or if it has been dropped or damaged in any manner. E. To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug or receptacle getting wet, position reptile habitat to one side of a wall-mounted receptacle to prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle or plug. A drip loop, shown in the figure to the right, should be arranged by the user for each cord connecting an aquarium appliance to a receptacle. The drip loop is that part of the cord below the level of the receptacle, or the connector if an extension cord is used, to prevent water traveling along the cord and coming in contact with the receptacle. 2. If the plug or receptacle does get wet, DO NOT unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the appliance. Then, unplug and examine for presence of water in the receptacle. APPLIANCE REPTILE HABITAT POWER CORD DRIP LOOP

3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. 4. To avoid injury, do not contact moving parts or hot parts such as heaters, reflectors, lamp bulbs, etc. 5. Always unplug an appliance from an outlet when it is not in use and before cleaning it. Never yank cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect. 5. Do not use an appliance for other than its intended use. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition. 6. Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures below freezing. 7. Make sure the appliance is securely mounted on aquarium/terrarium before operating it. 8. Read and observe all the important notices on the appliance. 9. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a proper rating should be used. A cord rated for fewer amperes or watts than the appliance rating may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled. 10. DO NOT PLACE OVER PLASTIC CROSS BRACES OR ON PLASTIC SCREENS! This might cause the plastic cross breams and/or the plastic screen to melt that could result in a fire.

Grounding Instructions This appliance should be grounded to minimize the possibility of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with an electric cord having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding type plug. The plug must be plugged into an outlet that is installed and grounded in accordance with all appropriate codes and ordinances. This appliance is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit, and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in (Figure A) below. A temporary adapter which looks like the adapter illustrated in (Figure B) and (Figure C) below may be used to connect this plug to a two-pole receptacle as shown in (Figure B) if a grounded outlet is not available. The temporary adapter should be used only until a grounded outlet can be installed by a qualified electrician. The green-colored rigid ear (lug, and the like) extending from the adapter must be fastened to a permanent ground such as a grounded outlet. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

Clean and Care Guide When performing any maintenance inside, outside or around your reptile habitat always ensure that your basking heater is in the off position and unplugged for at least 15 minutes prior to beginning any maintenance. If the maintenance requires that you detach the basking heater from either the screen top or frame, never place the basking heater on any surface unless it: Has cooled for at least 15 minutes and is unplugged in the off position. Failure to do this may cause damage to surfaces touched by the bottom of the basking heater. It is also important to never touch the underside of the basking heater while it is plugged in and/or in either the Hi or Lo setting. THE BOTTOM IS EXTREMELY HOT AND WILL BURN SKIN. Always use caution when cleaning the basking heater or any surface in direct or indirect contact with the basking heater. Using the basking heater in any way not intended by the manufacturer or in any way other than in these instructions could cause damage to your home and your person. Only clean plastic surfaces with a soft damp cloth and while it is unplugged and has cooled for at least 15 minutes. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

Installation On Screen: 1. First, remove basking heater from package. 2. Unscrew screen mounting thumbscrews from bottom of basking heater. 3. Place basking heater on screen in desired location. Note: We recommend that you place the basking heater in a position over any basking surfaces inside the reptile habitat. It is optimal to place both your basking heater and basking platform to one side of the aquarium. This allows the reptile to self-regulate body temperature. DO NOT PLACE OVER PLASTIC CROSS BRACES OR ON PLASTIC SCREENS! 4. Now that you have your basking heater positioned in the desired location, replace the screen mounting thumbscrews to secure the basking heater to the screen. 5. Once the basking heater is secured to the screen replace the screen over the aquarium/terrarium in a secure horizontal position. 6. Now plug the basking heater into an approved, properly grounded electrical outlet. 7. Your basking heater is shipped in an OFF position. Select either Hi or Lo setting to provide the optimum basking temperature (see chart called Basking Recommendations for recommendations). DO NOT PLACE OVER PLASTIC CROSS BRACES OR ON PLASTIC SCREENS!

Installation On Reptile Habitat Frame: 1. First, remove basking heater from package. 2. Attach the mounting bracket to the habitat frame. Tighten the safety tension knob to secure the basking heater to the frame. Note: We recommend that you locate the bracket for the basking heater in a position over any basking surfaces inside the habitat. It is optimal to place both your basking heater and basking platform to one side of the habitat. This will create a temperature gradient, allowing the reptile to self-regulate body temperature. DO NOT PLACE OVER PLASTIC CROSS BRACES OR ON PLASTIC SCREENS! 3. Fasten the heater to the bracket. Slide the bracket tab into the heater slot until it clicks firmly into place. 4. Ensure the basking heater is secured to the aquarium/terrarium in a secure horizontal position. 5. Now plug the basking heater into an approved, properly grounded electrical outlet. 6. Your basking heater is shipped in an OFF position. Select either Hi or Lo setting to provide the optimum basking temperature (see chart called Basking Recommendations for recommendations). 7. To remove the mounting bracket from the basking heater, press the tab on the top of the mounting bracket while sliding the heater away. DO NOT PLACE OVER PLASTIC CROSS BRACES OR ON PLASTIC SCREENS!

Troubleshooting Guidelines and Tips IMPORTANT: Always unplug any basking heater before inspecting or disassembling for any reason. If basking heater becomes immersed in water, do not attempt to re-use. It should be discarded and replaced with a new heater. If the Basking Heater is not heating: Double check that the heater is securely plugged into wall socket. Check to see if the Hi or Lo indicator light is on. To activate the heater, press the selector switch on the heater to the Hi or Lo setting. The heater rises in temperature for 15 minutes to reach the full heat output. If the indicator light is on and flashing: The heater s overheat sensor has activated and the heater is in protection mode. Remove any obstacles from below the heater that may prevent airflow into the heater, being careful not to touch hot objects with bare skin. Unplug and allow heater and obstructions to cool before handling. The overheat sensor will re-start the heater once it senses that the temperature has cooled to an acceptable level. If the selector switch is in the Hi or Lo position, the heater will resume heating. LIMITED TWO YEAR WARRANTY: United Pet Group, a division of Spectrum Brands, Inc.
