Concept Statement When you walk into the Kate Hubbard House you should have no doubt that you are in the Interior Design building on the campus of USM. It will be a place where college students are learning, studying, and spending time with one another in an environment that reflects a modern and eclectic style. The bright colors of the furniture will bring energy into the spaces. While the neutral colors on the walls will balance the spaces and bring a calmness and warmth. The Kate Hubbard House will be the perfect place for Interior Design students to gather and learn. Goals and Objectives The renovation of the Kate Hubbard House is to provide current and future students with learning environment that is: functional, accessible, durable, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing 1
Foyer (68 Square Feet) Function: Serves as the entrance and provides the first impression for the Interior Design Program. Promotional literature and handouts will be placed here. Problem Statement: This space is currently not accessible to people with disabilities. The door opens in the wrong direction for ramp access. We will need a ramp. The flooring is also a problem, it can be slippery when wet. Adjacencies: receptionist area, upstairs offices, downstairs classrooms, student lounge Activity Analysis:Entrance to the building and retrieving literature. Furnishings and Equipment: -Lighting (2 Orbit Clear Laura Glass Table Lamps) -Takeform Signage -Table (Durham Console Table H: 32 W: 48 D:14 ) Special Needs: -wheelchair accessible -security Student Lounge (450 Square Feet) Function: A comfortable sitting area for group study as well as a place where student can come for a break between classes. Problem Statement: More seating for students, magazine storage, lighting, and more outlets. Adjacencies: classrooms and foyer Activity Analysis:studying, relaxing, eating, collaborating, computer use Furnishings and Equipment: -sofa (W: 67 H: 33 D: 35 ) -existing table and chairs -2 swivel chairs (W: 28 D: 32 H: 30 ) -2 Eames molded plastic armchairs with rocker base (H: 26 W:24 D:27 ) -existing cupboard -console table (H:30 W:36 D:12 ) -2 tripod table lamps -pendant light -roman shade window coverings Special Needs: This space and its furnishing should be very durable considering it is the most used space in the building. 2
Restroom 302(70 Square Feet) Function: An aesthetically pleasing and durable bathroom that functions properly. Problem Statement: This bathroom is not aesthetically pleasing and needs updating. Adjacencies: offices, foyer, student lounge Activity Analysis: Using the bathroom. Furnishings and Equipment: -toilet -sink (H:35 W:22 L:27 ) -lighting (H:10 L:21 D:7 ) -mirror (H:26 W:36 D:2 ) -floor tile (24 x24 ) -wall tile (8 x20 ) -wallpaper Special Needs: Commercial grade upgrades Restroom 102 (70 Square Feet) Function: An aesthetically pleasing and durable bathroom that functions properly. Along with ADA regulation standard where ever possible to be renovated. Problem Statement: The bathroom is not aesthetically pleasing and needs to be ADA compliant. Adjacencies: classroom 101, lounge/entryway Activity Analysis: Using the bathroom.
