Efficient hot water storage solutions from Worcester As part of the Bosch Group, Worcester is committed to environmental protection. With product development being prioritised in the interests of people's safety, the economical use of resources and environmental sustainability. With this in mind, Worcester is proud to offer the range of high efficiency cylinders which offer excellent hot water comfort for properties with a stored DHW supply. Worcester cylinders are available in both a Single Coil (SC) and Twin Coil (TC) option. The SC is available in 7 different models ranging from the SC-90 to the SC-300. The TC solar-compatible cylinders are available in five options ranging from the TC-150 to the TC-300. The series have been designed with the installer and customer in mind, allowing them to be installed as a replacement for a damaged or inefficient cylinder, or as an addition to a newly commissioned system. The Worcester cylinder series is fully compatible with a wide range of non-worcester boilers and solar panels, although to achieve the optimum system solution it is recommended that a cylinder is coupled with either a Greenstar high efficiency boiler or Greenskies solar panel installation. The SC single coil series The single coil cylinder benefits consumers who do not require solar compatibility, but are looking for a cylinder which offers high levels of insulation, excellent flow rate and outstanding re-heat performance. The SC range is also ideal for consumers who require a smaller capacity of hot water storage, with the SC series being available in SC-90 and SC-120 variants. The TC twin coil series All of the models in the Twin Coil (TC) cylinder series feature high levels of insulation and dedicated solar volumes in compliance with current Building Regulations, SAP 2012 and the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). Worcester's TC stainless steel hot water storage cylinders have been specifically designed for use with solar heating installations, combined with boiler back-up. How a cylinder transfers and distributes heat Why choose an unvented cylinder? A cylinder is connected to the mains water supply via the included G3 kit. Mains water pressure is used to deliver hot water to the outlets, meaning a significant performance improvement is possible over traditional copper cylinders, allowing baths to fill quicker whilst ensuring showers are powerful. Water is heated via the heat exchange coil(s) which gain heat from either a boiler or solar panel system. This heat rises through the highly insulated cylinder until the entire volume reaches the desired output temperature. Features and benefits of the cylinder series High levels of heat retention Energy efficiency A critical factor that affects the performance and the overall efficiency of any hot water storage cylinder is the level of insulation that it can provide. The SC and TC cylinders feature extremely high heat retention, which is made possible by the factory-fitted 65mm of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) insulation between the inner shell and outer casing. The high energy efficiency of the cylinder directly increases the overall energy rating of the hot water system, something that is particularly important when assessing a new build system's compliance in SAP. Ultimately for the end user, the high levels of heat retention results in reduced energy consumption, as less energy is required to heat up the water. This reduces energy bills whilst also helping to save the environment. Outstanding re-heat performance Hot water comfort When looking to supply large volumes of hot water for multiple outlets simultaneously, a cylinder's re-heat performance must be considered. A cylinder re-heat time will directly affect the levels of continuous hot water supply, the levels of comfort and the length of time the boiler is firing. The superb re-heat times for the range are achieved due to the high efficiency heat exchange coil(s) which maximise heat transfer to the water within the cylinder. For the homeowner, this results in a quick hot water replenishment when the cylinder thermostat is activated. There are two different coil output sizes within the SC and TC cylinders. Within the 90-180 models, a 32kW rated coil is utilised, whilst the 210-300 models have a class-leading 39kW rated output coil. Cost-effective hot water solution Everything you need as a part of a single package, ordered via a single part number. Quick and easy installation All SC and TC models feature an industry standard wiring arrangement providing familiarity and reduced complexity, enabling installation time to be reduced. Installation can be made even simpler if installing in conjunction with a Greenstar system boiler with the optional diverter valve accessory. Full system solutions from a brand you can trust The TC cylinder allows Worcester to offer a full solar/boiler system solution that can be used in conjunction with our award-winning high efficiency Greenstar gas- and oil-fired boilers. The option to specify a full system from a high quality and well trusted brand, along with the 's extensive guarantee, provides peace-of-mind for both the installer and homeowner. Please note that intelligent control integration can be achieved if an internal diverter valve kit is installed with a new or existing Worcester Greenstar system boiler. See page 12 for further details. Protecting the environment cylinders are designed with expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam insulation, as well as stainless steel coils and internal shell. EPS and stainless steel are both 100% recyclable and the design of the cylinder series means that the insulation outer cover can be easily separated from the inner shell for recycling, helping to protect the environment. Installation considerations Siting the unit The SC and TC series can supply outlets above or at some distance from the cylinder installation position. However the unit should be sited to minimise 'dead leg' distances, especially to the point of most frequent use. Please note, outlets above the SC and TC cylinder will reduce the outlet pressure available by 0.1bar for every 1m of height difference. Discharge arrangement Temperature and pressure relief valve 600 mm maximum Metal discharge pipe (D1) from temperature relief valve to tundish The unit should be protected from frost. Particular care is needed if siting in a garage or outbuilding. All exposed pipework must be insulated. 300mm minimum Tundish The SC and TC cylinder must be installed upright on a flat base capable of supporting the weight of the cylinder when full (see installation manual for weights). Discharge pipe (D2) from tundish with continuous fall Fixed grating The minimum recommended cupboard size is 670mm 2. Access for maintenance of the valves should be considered. The immersion heater is 375mm long and care should be taken so that they can be withdrawn for servicing if required. The discharge pipework from the safety valves should fall continuously and terminate in accordance with regulations with approved document G of the Building Regulations. When installing in a garage or any situation which is outside of the warm envelope of the building; please ensure the cylinder is frost protected, the siting minimum temperature is 5ºC. Again, the cylinder should be installed upright on a suitable base, in a vermin-proof area. The installation location should not be liable to flooding or be subject to damp or condensation. All legislation and best practice procedures should be followed at installation. However, the performance of any unvented system is dependent on the water supply. The maximum possible water demand should be assessed, taking into consideration that both hot and cold services are supplied simultaneously from the mains. The water supply should be checked to ensure it can meet these requirements. If necessary, consult the local water company regarding the likely pressure and flow rate availability. It features 1 coil and a G3 compliant Inlet Control Group. The Worcester TC cylinder is designed to be installed in conjunction with the Greenskies solar package. The lower coil is connected to the Greenskies solar system and controls as per the Greenskies instructions. The solar sensor supplied as part of the Greenskies collectors inserts into the lowest pocket. The upper coil is connected to the secondary appliance, which will heat the cylinder if insufficient energy is available from the lower coil. Either of the coil connections may be utilised as the flow or return on a SC or TC cylinder. 11

Flexible system integration 2-port motorised valve (S-plan) systems The series of unvented cylinders are compatible with any thermostatically controlled gas- or oil-fired boiler, meaning they are a viable addition to any existing or brand new system installation. They are supplied with a 230V dual thermostat and a 230V 2-port motorised valve to allow easy integration with any 230V proprietary control system. A typical system layout and wiring schematic for a 2-port motorised valve (S-plan) system can be seen on page 13. A Worcester digital style control completes this flexible system solution. A wide variety of controls are available, each offering different levels of specification, from a simple twin channel programmer to wireless room thermostats with hot water timing capability. The FX Controls series provides system integration with Greenskies solar systems and increased system energy efficiency. Please note Worcester 'mechanical' controls are not compatible with Greenstar system boilers. Optional Internal Diverter Valve Kit systems Worcester Greenstar gas-fired system boilers offer the opportunity of a plug and play diverter valve solution to enable a quick and easy installation and further system integration. At the heart of this installation is either a Greenstar i System or Greenstar CDi Classic System boiler which can be selected dependent upon the individual heat requirements of the installation. The optional Internal Diverter Valve Kit includes all the necessary fittings to provide dedicated domestic hot water cylinder flow and return connections* in addition to the standard central heating flow and return. Please note that using the Internal Diverter Valve Kit in place of a standard 2-port motorised valve (S-plan) system will affect the pipework connections between the boiler and cylinder location and this must be considered, particularly in replacement installations. To simplify your system solution, the optional Internal Diverter Valve Kit must be specified. This simply plugs into the hydraulic block of the system boiler, removing the need to install the 2-port motorised valve supplied with the cylinder. Compliance with Building Regulation G3 is assured by installing the 230V dual thermostat in an upper pocket of the cylinder, using the high limit thermostat only to isolate the mains supply to the gas-fired system boiler in the event of the cylinder reaching 85ºC. A benefit of selecting Worcester Internal Diverter Valve Kits and Controls is that they are covered by a guarantee period equal to the Worcester gas-fired system boiler installed.
