Group Visits at Harewood Harewood is one of the Treasure Houses of England. With rolling Capability Brown landscapes, an impressive art collection including works by JMW Turner & El Greco, renaissance masterpieces, exquisite Thomas Chippendale furniture and fabulous Robert Adam interiors, all combined with 100 acres of award-winning Gardens and a renowned lakeside Bird Garden, Harewood really does offer something for every group.
Designer, Maker, Decorator This year we are presenting a major exhibition to coincide with the tercentenery of the birth of Sir Thomas Chippendale and the nationwide Chippendale 300 celebrations. Thomas Chippendale, the greatest and most famous English furniture maker was born close to Harewood House in the small market town of Otley. Chippendale (1718-1779) rose from humble beginnings to become furniture maker to some of the most powerful and influential people of his day aristocrats, politicians, businessmen, actors and royalty. Seeds of Hope This summer we will have a focus on peace as we celebrate the end of The First World War. Our beautiful Walled Garden will be full of the flowers, fruits, vegetables and livestock that would have appeared in the garden in 1918. Throughout the summer months, exhibitions, events and activities that create an atmosphere of celebration can be found in The Walled Garden and we are delighted to be working with the creative partnership Lord Whitney who will be creating an interactive experience and exhibition in The Bothy.
